CD Review by Charles Tan
Yu Yu Hakusho Sai Kyou Best Selection Album
PCCG-00399
Pony Canyon
16 Tracks
74:26
It would only seem fit to review this CD as Yu Yu Hakusho re-enters the Philippine scene once again.
The CD commemorates Yu Yu Hakusho’s aaniversary as it was originally released some two to three years ago, after the T.V. series had ended in Japan. To show this, it contains a bonus sticker the size of the CD cover with all the four reikai tantei, glittering in their full glory. However, this is not the CD’s strongest point.
The Sai Kyou Best Selection Album is a vocal collection. What makes it different from the rest is that it contains all the opening and ending themes of the television series, something that has never happened until 1999’s release of the Yu Yu Hakusho Collective Songs. That alone makes it worthy of availing it.
The rest of the other ten tracks comprise image songs of the characters like Yusuke’s Dead or Alive and the duet Wild Wind by Kurama and Hiei. A bonus is the last track, an all new image song sung by the four protagonists which can only be found here. Entitled “Boku Tachi no Kisetsu”, or Our Season, it is a melodramatic closing song to a wonderful anime series and CD album.
To those who have tons of Yu Yu Hakusho CD’s already piled up in their collection, there is nothing new to get here save the fifth ending theme and the bonus last track. However, if you want all your favorite themes compiled in just one CD, you could get this along with the special sticker included. For those who have just discovered the series and have yet to buy a Yu Yu Hakusho CD, this is not a disappointment as you’re sure to like the opening and closing themes as well as have a taste of the songs sung by the characters. This is a highly recommended CD and if you can’t afford it, pester your relatives and friends this Christmas to get it for you if you haven’t already.
Charles’ search for the YYH:OST still continues. Until then, he’ll review the Rare Trax Collection next time.

P. Otaku Bytes: Endnotes
The year is ending with the millenium. We can expect changes in our lives, hopefully for the better, anime included. Next year, we’ll be opening up our mag with a Valentine issue. That means our next issue will be in February. This will give us more time to prepare our articles and brainstorm better features for your reading pleasure. I’m apologizing for the lack of pictures in this issue. I’m trying to find more willing artists (and writers who actually submit on time) to do work but whatever the case, the staff is doing their best. Don’t forget to check our website (http://geocities.datacellar.net/charlesatan) for updates and several neat features. See you in some forty plus days and don’t forget to email us your comments and suggestions!!!
