1. Sanosuke Sagara and Megumi Takani
The Good: This is one of the few couples where one can really say that they look cute when they fight each other. Their comebacks are really witty, right up to the part where Megumi starts sprouting fox ears and Sanosuke turns purple from being called a roosterhead. The best reason here though, is that they’re alike in many ways. Since opposites attract but like ones repel...
The Bad: With the exception of a few filler episodes, not much emphasis is given to Megumi and Sanosuke’s implied relationship, the bulk of it going to Kenshin and Kaoru, and maybe a little bit of Aoshi and Misao. Sometimes it’s a bit exasperating waiting for them to tell each other face-to-face what they really feel.
The Good: They fight all the time. They have never agreed on anything as far as we know. They’re supposed to be engaged, but that’s a bit redundant, as Ranma’s already got several more fiancees, either through his or his father’s baka-ness. In spite of all those though, there’s been some moments where Ranma (or Akane) does something out of the ordinary all for Akane (or Ranma) that surprises them both, and gives way to a few cute, awkward moments where they try to figure out what’s really going on between them...only to decide that it’s just a fluke and start hassling each other again.
The Bad: The constant wrangling, screaming and hitting of faces against thick objects tend to become a bit irritating after watching them happen almost every episode that involves Ranma and Akane (and since Ranma and Akane are the hero and heroine per se, they’re in practically all of them).
The Good: Utena is actually a good influence on Touga. Earlier in the series, he was a philandering ass who’d charm anything wearing a skirt (even his own sister) but by the end of the series, he falls for Utena and gives up his being playboy for her. And not only that, he believes that he is Utena’s prince who’s come to save a fair damsel in distress. *sigh* This is just the stuff made of fairytales?
The Bad: But then again, this series doesn’t end with Utena and Touga together. In fact, by the end of the series, it turns out that Utena doesn’t like Touga but likes Akio. Plus! Utena disappears! So much for fairytales!
