Welcome to Gaea: The World of Escaflowne
continued...

Hitomi Kanzaki, the 'Vision of Escaflowne'. A girl with the mystical power of fortelling.

A Deeper Introspection of the Vision of Escaflowne Main Cast:

  • Hitomi Kanzaki - Hitomi never thought she was anything more than the ordinary high school student. Her only claim to being different from others, aside from her being a track and field star - is her ability to read tarot cards and - at random times - predict the future. Amano was her first crush, and she tried to discern his feelings for her by proposing that should she beat her current track record time, she would extract a kiss from Amano. Hitomi never knew if she beat her old record, for Van Fanel suddenly chose to materialize in front of her school field - him, and the dragon he had been engaged in fighting. It is with Van that Hitomi is suddenly transported to Gaea. Fifteen-year old Hitomi wears a strange pendant around her neck - a necklace she says, belonged to her grandmother, who professed nearly the same psychic powers that she had. Headstrong a bit on the tomboyish side, honesty and open-mindedness makes up part of her psyche - although she has a tendency to fall in love very easily...

  • Van Slanzar de Fanel - Girls were the last things on fifteen-year old Van's mind. He was only trying to defeat a dragon in his homeworld of Gaea. (As the prince of Fanelia, his prerequisite prior to becoming its king is to kill the said beast) He owes Hitomi his life; Hitomi had had a vision of the dragon killing Van, and if not for her intervention, would have come true. Van however, was less than grateful. Van is the typical male who views the opposite sex as just that; the gender opposite of his own, and therefore often says the wrong thing at the wrong time to girls. He has no clear idea how to act around women or others of high rank (even though he himself is royalty), choosing instead to act out of his own gut instinct, which often gets him into trouble he didn't really intend. He holds great responsibility for himself and his people, and often doesn't forgive himself when he is unable to. It is the custom in the kingdom of Fanelia that its ruler is also the sole owner of one of the country's treasures: a huge one-of-a-kind Guymelef called the Escaflowne. It took the Ispano about 150 years to manufacture this mecha, including its dragon and humanoid form. To earn the right to pilot the Escaflowne, Van must first extract a Dragu-Energist Crystal needed to act as the mecha's 'battery'; a Dragu-Energist Crystal found within the dragon Van had been fighting. However, Van had not been the first in line to be Fanelia's king. His older brother had been killed fighting the dragon in his coronation ritual some years ago.

  • Amano - Hitomi's 'sempai' The top track and field star of their school, Hitomi idolizes him and is heartbroken when she learns that he would be leaving for abroad soon. Before that comes to past however, Hitomi confronts Amano one night at their school track field....
