Welcome to Gaea: The World of Escaflowne continued...
Allen Schezar, the elegant Knight of Asturia, pilot of the equally elegant guymelef Sherazade
Allen Crusade Schezar - Already the captain of the guards of the
kingdom of Asturia, and Allen's only eighteen years old. Hitomi is instantly smitten by
him... but it may be because the blond haired knight bears a striking resemblance to her
very own Amano-sempai... Allen is perhaps one of the best swordsmen and Guymelef pilot of
his time. Scherezade is his specialized Guymelef. Having lost his sister and mother at an
early age, then spent most of his childhood training to be an Asturian soldier. Courteous
and discreet at all times, Allen is also an excellent tactician and is often seen at the
front of the battle. Though he looks a gentleman, he has however, a lot of skeletons in
his closet that when revealed, could mean disgrace to the whole of Asturia...
Dilandau Albatou - There may be no other soldier of Gaea who can
be highly intelligent yet mentally deranged at the same time. He has great skills in
combat and piloting Guymelefs, but he holds nothing else in his heart except for the need
to win by pillaging and killing everything in his path... as long as of course, it does
nothing to disturb his good looks... Dilandau is the head captain of the enemy Zaibach
empire, and fights only because he enjoys the thrill of the kills that he makes. What
painful, traumatic experience causes him his moments of insanity and berserker rages? And
what does this have to do with Allen Schezar?
Millerna Sara Aston - Now the eldest daughter to the King of
Asturia, her older sister Marlene having passed away some years before. Millerna had
grown up in love with Allen, and is friendly to everyone as is her nature, though she
becomes somewhat petty to Hitomi when she realizes she has a competitor for Allen's
affections. Although she has been surrounded by the political intrigue in her father's
court and has a knack for unraveling them, Millerna chooses to be honest and straight
forward in her dealings with others, and brooks no remorse for those who do not. But
there are some secrets in Asturia that even she doesn't know yet.
Folken - one of the masterminds behind the Zaibach empire. How he
came into this country or what his real motives are, no one seems to know for sure, not
even his own allies. He doesn't seem to have an inner need to terrorize other countries
and force them to bow to Zaibach, but he seems to have some sort of connection to Van
Fanel - a connection Van doesn't know.
Gadeth - second in command of the Captain's Guards, and second in
swordsmanship only to Allen Schezar. He's Allen's best friend and basically keeps Allen's
ship running smooth, no matter what orders are to be issued out.
The Mole Man - the most comedic character of the series. Though he
seems to have been born in Fanelia, he seems to enjoy moving around and staying in
forests at times on end, scavenging for food and medicinal herbs he uses for treatment.
Although his intelligence is average, his actions sometimes seem more of a curious
animal's than a normal human's. True to his name, he can dig tunnels underground and can
see without nearly any light at all.
Vision of Escaflowne is definitely a
must-see, full of hard core mecha for the avid weapons otaku, yet filled with intrigue
and a sense of foreboding surrounding the world that would keep any plot lover interested.
This commentator's vision on Escaflowne would be that it would continue to be a popular
series for the average anime fan for a long, long time.
