While waiting at the corner, Yukiko recalls what Masashi said to her…"I will treasure you…" & smiles to herself. Her brother comes running up "You forgot this!" gives her a racing magazine & sticks a pen above her ear. "Remember, the most famous is…why go to a racecourse on a date?" they are talking when Masashi arrives. Kikuo runs over, says hi, tells them to take care when Masashi asks "Why don't you join us?"

In the car, Kikuo asks Masashi "we don't know much about betting on horses…" Masashi smiles & tells them "I don't either" "eh?"

They finally end up at a riding club. Yukiko & Kikuo look worried & she asks "How…?" Kikuo says "It's just horse riding" "Have you ridden before?" "Nothing to do with me, I just came along with the both of you." Kikuo tries to sneak off but Yukiko grabs a hold of his sleeve "Wait!" Kikuo says "I'm going to buy a camera & finally manages to get away from Yukiko's tugging at his sleeve…

Masashi comes up to Yukiko all dressed in riding gear & hands her a riding helmet "you can use this". Yukiko apologises "Sorry, can't believe that you really brought us here…sorry about the other night, what my brother…sorry" Masashi assures her "It wasn't because of your brother that I said what I did, that'd I'd treasure you." "eh?" says Yukiko. Masashi continues "It wasn't because he begged me that I said it" looking at her. Yukiko smiles & says "ok". Kikuo comes back with a camera & starts taking pictures of them…

A couple of days later, at the Maple house café, Yukiko is flipping thru an album, looking at the pictures taken at the riding club. Her colleague Nakamura comes by with her current boyfriend Satoshi. Yukiko's about to put her album away when Nakamura asks to see them. Satoshi flips thru them while Yukiko explains who's who…

At the same time at the Takagi office, Masashi's father, Miura & Masashi are having a discussion. Masashi's father tells him that Kanzaki had proposed working together & that his daughter favors the relationship. He warns Masashi that if they don't grab the opportunity, it would be a great loss to the Takagi corporation…Masashi remains silent…

When Nakamura sees what the photos are, & Satoshi exclaiming "wow, going riding…" she doesn't look please. She tells him "isn't it time for work?" & he leaves. Nakamura, jealous of Yukiko, then tells Yukiko not to show off…"people like us can only afford going to Pachinko parlors & karaoke lounges". Yukiko is shocked & apologizes "I didn't mean anything like that…going out with Masashi is like going out with you guys" but Nakamura tells her "you're forcing yourself to match up to him…I'm thinking of marriage, are you?" Yukiko is silent…

Later walking down a corridor, Masashi's father tells Miura that "if that person is still going out with Masashi, take care of it at all costs!" Miura surprised answers "I understand."

On the way home, Yukiko stops at the phone outside the convenience store & calls Masashi. "The photos are ready" she tells him. Masashi answers "then I'll see them the next time we meet". The girl Hatsue is in the apartment with him & music is playing. Yukiko continues "I'm free anytime" "then I'll get in touch with you again." Yukiko is about to hang up when she hears the music "What music is this? It was on when we played chess…" Masashi tells her "Rachmaninoff no. 2"…

At the apartment Hatsue repeats "then I'll see them the next time we meet…you won't ever say that to me?" Masashi takes a CD & hands it to her "This is what you wanted…" She puts it back "borrowing a CD is not what I want, that's just an excuse. I heard from Miura that you're going with a factory worker…I'm disappointed, you're really going around with a girl like that? You think you can make her into your ideal partner?" Masashi finally asks her "If there's nothing else, can you go home?" Hatsue says "I love you" but there' no reaction from Masashi. She takes her coat "I don't want you to hate me so I'm going home…will you send me back?"

Yukiko runs off to the music shop to look for Rachmaninoff no. 2…

At the Matsui apartment, Kenji calls Kikuo & tells him that "Hitomi has gone back to work at the club, & Kikuo could go there but of course without money it wouldn't do…"Kenji does a good job of rubbing it in which leaves Kikuo in a huff. Yukiko comes back home & shows Kikuo the photos when he starts sighing..."What's wrong" asks Yukiko & Kikuo says "Tomorrow I'm going to the clulb where Hitomi works, just for a bear, not spend money frivolously, I'll persuade her to quit working at that club, I won't someone else have someone I love..." Yukiko uncomfortabe, says "Hitomi's a younger sister" "What younger sister? To me she's a woman..." "Wrong, she's Masashi's younger sister!" "What are you saying?" "Hitomi & Masashi are brother & sister..." & Kikuo is speechless...

Hitomi returns home to Kenji who talks about opening a store. He treats her nice but Hitomi wonders why & asks him "What happened?" Kenji just says "Marry me..."

As Kikuo & Yukiko are lying in their beds, Kikuo says "If you & Masashi get married, then Hitomi & I will be brother & sister...shall we all go steady at the same time then?" Yukiko sits up "If you're talking about marriage, then you should be first. I haven't thought about marriage yet...as long as we can be together now, I'm happy." "In the end?" "Don't know, the present is more important" "Lying..." "the present!" "you look very happy" says Kikuo but Yukiko just smiles & lies back down. "Goodnight..."

At work Yukiko gets a call from Masashi "Yacht?" loud enough that her colleagues look at her. "Cruising…?" Masashi asks "first time? Do you get seasick?" but she assures him no, thrilled that he's asked. When she hangs up she says to herself "Yacht…" but Nakamura says to her "stop talking to yourself, they're waiting for your documents…"

At the office, Masashi is smiling after the phone call to Yukiko & Miura says to him "Is that a good idea? Treating Matsui that way…here's the data…" handing over some documents at the same time. Masashi takes it & glances thru them "You told Hatsue where I live." "yes." "She paid me a visit yesterday" "Probably wanted to see you" "Don't do as you please! Things are progressing smoothly with Kanzaki Corporation. Don't do anything without my knowledge!" Miura says "I apologize, Mr President." using extremely polite language which shocks Masashi into saying "Miura…" Miura then smiles "my fault…"

Masashi visits his father & tries to persuade him to meet Hitomi but his father says he's cut off all ties with her the day she left. Masashi says "Please see her" "No need!" his father is adament. But Masashi firmly tells him "If she doesn't settle down, I will never get married." Gets up & is about to leave when his father asks "Where is she now?" "now…" says Masashi & his father asks again "Where is she?"

Kikuo goes to the club where Hitomi works. He's sitting alone when Hitomi comes by "only beer? No liquor?" Kikuo replies honestly "I don't have that much money…" & she tells him "This is not the place where people with no money come to." Kikuo replies "This is not the place where people with money work" & Hitomi looks at him. He continues "I heard…why leave home?" "So you came here to lecture me…" "Not that…Takagi!" he says suddenly, seeing Masashi. Hitomi looks up & says "Dad!"

The four of them sit at a table tense as Hitomi mixes drinks all round. Their father says "left home to do this? Shameful!" but Hitomi retorts "If you don't like it don't come here!" they end up fighting & their father leaves in anger…

As Kikuo & Masashi walk together after leaving the club, Masashi explains that when Hitomi was in college when their mother died. At the time, he was overseas & their father was working, so she was the only one taking care of their mother. "She became very reserved after that, I felt it but I didn't do anything, so I'm responsible…" Kikuo says "You're not the only one responsible…" but quickly apologizes. Masashi looks at him, then asks not to use polite speech & not to keep bowing to him…they then say goodnight & part ways…

Next morning, Yukiko prepares to go sailing with Masashi. Kikuo mentions what happened the night before…

At the marina later, Yukiko asks Masashi "Your father went to the club?" & she quickly apologizes for her brother in case he said anything he shouldn't have. Masashi merely smiles "Brother go there often?" "No, only just because of Hitomi…" Masashi then suggests that the next time all four of them have dinner together…as they head towards the boats, Masashi suddenly stops & stares. It's his ex-girlfriend Misaki. She comes up & greets him "I thought you no longer had any interest in sailing…is this your girlfriend?" she nods to Yukiko. "Terrible weather isn't it?" Masashi simply stares at her & Yukiko notices. Finally as Misaki leaves he asks her "You came alone?" "No, with the others…" smiles & walks away…Yukiko asks "She's a friend?" & Masashi with a faraway look "from college, she was my junior…"

Kikuo calls Hitomi from a restaurant, tells her he wants to meet up with her, has something to tell her…Hitomi looks at Kenji…

After their date, Masashi sends her to that corner. In the car, Yukiko asks, "Is she the one? Miura said that there is someone you love. Is it that lady we met today at the harbor? Masashi tells her "It's got nothing to do with her, she was just my jinior in school…I haven't seen eher in a long time, just feel nostalgic, that's all". Yukiko says "I understand, what am I saying…goodnight" & gets out of the car. She walks a little bit & turns around to see Masashi still in the car staring off into space. Yukiko "…recalls the fax invitation to her wedding reception & Masashi saying "my ex-girlfriend got married today"…Finally after a long while, he starts the car & drives off with Yukiko looking on…

At the restaurant, Hitomi is having a drink with Kikuo & asks him "what did you want to say to me?" He asks instead "what do you consider as happiness? What would you do to have a happy marriage?" Hitomi smiles "You want to know about my marrying Kenji? I know that now it would be putting Kenji in a difficult position but…" suddenly Kenji walks in & interrupts "good evening!" Hitomi tells him to leave but Kikuo says it's fine…

At the Matsui apartment the next morning, Kikuo plays with 2 dinosaur soft toys & moaning away "nothing going right, kidding…" Yukiko asks "the three of you sat there all the while?" "yes, only I did all the talking, like an idiot…but I said what I wanted to say…feel better…" "What?" asks Yukiko. Kikuo says "if one day, when you can't take any more of Kenji, you can always come to look for me anytime, I'll wait for you…I wonder if she'll forget what I said…" Yukiko assures him "She will…women will always remember…" smiles & says "I'm off". As she leaves Kikuo says "things are going smoothly for you, really lucky!" Yukiko looks back, the look on her face saying otherwise…

At work, a colleague comes up to a daydreaming Yukiko "you made a huge error, it's not like you…" Nakamura says "call for Matsui, it's a guy" & Yukiko takes it. The colleague reminds her "hurry up & correct the document, need it in a hurry…" Yukiko says yes & answers the phone "yes?" her expression changes & she says "today?"

At the Takagi office, Miura on the phone says "alright, there at 8 tonight…" & hangs up. Masashi comes over & hands him a fax for New York…Miura says "she's defeated me, wonder how much money I'll have to give before she agrees to break up…" Masashi smiles & walks away & Miura follows" what?" Masashi suddenly stops & says "I saw Misaki yesterday…" Miura goes "& then?" "nothing…isn't this the bat way of ending it? Be a little nice to her in the end…" A call comes in & Miura picks it up, listens & then holds the receiver out to Masashi…"Who?" asks Masashi, Miura answers "Misaki…"

At the swimming club where Kikuo works, Hitomi comes by to apologize for Kenji's behavior the night before. Kikuo says he doesn't mind because he likes her & asks her to look at him as a man. Hitomi smiles & says "I went last night because you said you'd wait for me. I also like you very much." Kikuo goes all goofy, hugs her & dives into the pool fully clothed in happiness!

It's raining when Yukiko arrives at the Maple House café & enters to see Miura sitting at a table having a coffee…he takes out a necklace & tells her "this is for you, because you're always wearing those cheap things…present" pushing it towards her. Yukiko asks "Why?" Miura condescendingly answers "If money is given to you directly, you're reject it, so Masashi asked me to buy something else…" "Lying!" "Or perhaps you think money is better?" "You're lying, he wouldn't…" Miura merely continues "He's only going out with you because he wants to forget about someone. He can't see her anymore…she's married. A girl like you wouldn't understand what a man's really thinking…" Yukiko is silent & then asks "You're talking about Misaki?" Miura looks a tad surprised "eh? He's mentioned her to you? In that case I'll be blunt…" The scene just shows Yukiko listening when her expression changes & she says "eh?"

Masashi is beeing driven in the car, pensively looking out the window when he tells the chauffeur to drop him off at the corner "someone's waiting for me" The chauffeur asks "you have a date?" Masashi informs him "you can go home first…" "But it's still raining…" but Masashi assures him "it's ok…"

Masashi walks into a posh looking lounge & Misaki is waiting for him…

Back at the café, Miura cruelly tells Yukiko "You can't replace Misaki. Don't think he's such a nice person, he's not. Do you hate him now? Just take the necklace" & leaves. Yukiko sits there stunned, in silence…

It's still pouring outside & Miura is walking off in the rain. Yukiko dashes out all of a sudden & shouts "Wait!" running up to Miura. "Misaki is just a friend from college, he said so! I trust him, I won't accept this! I can't hate him because I believe in him. I don't believe what you say!" & puts the necklace into Miura's suit pocket. Miura gets mad & grabs a hold of her "don't be so naïve!" & Yukiko struggles to get away. Struggling in the rain, Yukiko falls to the ground. Miura just tells her "just take the necklace!" & walks away, Yukiko just staring after him close to tears…

It's stopped raining & Yukiko walks home dejectedly but just outside her apartment, along the narrow corridor, she stops. She's soaked, her pants are torn at the knee & her knee is bleeding. She looks at her hand & it's bleeding as well. She turns around & slowly walks away…

Inside the apartment, Kikuo is looking at a flower, recalling what Hitomi said to him, smiling away like an idiot. The phone rings & he answers "Dad? "Where's Yukiko?" his father asks. "Out. What's wrong?" "Your mother went into the hospital today…after recovering from her cold, her chest's been feeling uncomfortable…" Kikuo worried says "Chest…not anything serious?" but his father assures him "shouldn't be anything, just over exhausted. Also, didn't Yukiko say she'd write? Haven't received anything…mother is waiting, really worried about her." Kikuo tells him "I'll tell Yukiko when she comes home." His father continues "Your mother wants to see her, wants to talk to her…"

At the pay phone next to the convenience store which is shut at this hour, Yukiko with shaking hands dial Masashi's number. She gets his answering machine & hangs up. She walks a little ways & starts to cry…

Masashi & Misaki are walking along & talking. Misaki says "I was worried about you…cause of the way we parted. But after seeing you're ok, I feel better." Masashi asks "What do you want? Why call & say you wanted to see me? What sort of memory do you think I have of us breaking up?" "What sort of memory?" says Misaki "I don't understand what you feel. We were always together but I didn't understand you, & you wouldn't understand me either!" Masashi retorts "But you betrayed me first! Seeing someone else!" Misaski angrily replies "That was because of you! If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have gotten married! It was because I wanted to forget you that I got married!" They look at each other & then Misaki walks up to him, puts her head on his shoulder…

Yukiko goes to Masashi's apartment, wet & upset…

Masashi & Misaki hug…the Tokyo Tower lighted up in the background…

Yukiko waits in vain outside Masashi's apartment. She looks at the photos again & recalls Masashi telling her "It wasn't because of your brother that I said what I did, that'd I'd treasure you..."
