Izumi Junko is the first female kyogen performer in the kyogen history. She was born and grew up in the Izumi school of kyogen, which has a history of 559 years. She started her performance on the stage at the age of three, and in 1989 she attracted widespread attention when she became the first ever female kyogen performer. Ever since, she has performed various kyogen both inside and outside Japan.
