8th Station: Ohiso |
History |
Ohiso was also appointed as a station in the Kamakura period, the 1st feudal period (1192-1333) and was famous as a pleasant district.
Ohiso beach was well-known as a place for utamakura (a place which is described in classical Japanese verse), and many poets including Saigyo wrote poems. Like Hiroshige's work, you can enjoy pine tree viewing in Ohiso. Old & big pine trees are still there.
