| An island off the coast of Greece where one of the training camps for martial artists is located. It has existed there in secret for centuries, and is Athena's main place of power. Many of the other Saints were trained there. Truly the core of Athena's "self", she cannot fully realize her memories and full power until enthroned there. Sanctuary has its own source of mystic power and is only partly connected to the real world, with most of it actually existing in another dimension. The area where Pegasus Seiya trained -- and where most of the battles take place -- is only the "gateway" into what is really Sanctuary. (It is doubtful if Ares can enter the "true" Sanctuary, but if he can keep Saori/Athena from reaching the center of her power, he basically has won the battle by default.) |
