ANOTHER SUNRISE

Akane sat on the roof looking at the moon. She stared up at the glowing orb smiling inwardly thinking of the past days she's been looking up at that silver sphere. It was so beautiful, the moon's silent mystery. It was always there, waiting and smiling down on her. It was on these clear nights that she loved to just lie down on the roof and stare up at the sight before her. She had been sleeping all day so she wasn't feeling sleepy this night. "So beautiful..." she sighed. "Yeah, um, it is." Akane almost jumped at Ranma's voice, but she soon settled down. Ranma lied down beside her and said, "It's past midnight, whatcha doin here?" Akane looked sideways at him and said, "I'm just looking at the moon." "Oh." Ranma answered. A few minutes went by and Ranma suddenly said, "You really like the moon huh?" "Yeah, it's just so-so.." "Beautiful." Ranma finished. "Yeah. It just makes me smile and forget all my problems for once." Ranma smiled and sat up looking at Akane, "You should see the sun rise y'know. It's twice as beautiful as the moon." Akane sat up too and said, "Really? I didn't know you watch the sun rise, I'd have thought you'd be sleeping till noon." Ranma just smiled and said, "Well, there's something about the sunrise. I don't know what it is. It's somehow not the same as the one before. It makes me want to see it every single day." All kinds of thoughts whirled through Ranma's mind. A faint blush shone on his cheeks. Akane looked at Ranma and coughed, Ranma didn't realize he had just voiced his thoughts even though it was soft, Akane still heard it. She just continued on as if nothing happened, though it was hard to do when Ranma was staring at her. Akane looked up trying to mask her beet-red face. "The sun's gonna be rising soon." Ranma said. Akane looked out to the horizon and saw that Ranma was right. The sky was picking up hints of faint orange light that spread through the sky like a thin blanket. And the moon was almost nowhere to be seen. Everything was quiet and soon the sun was rising. They both quieted and just stared at the beauty in front of them. It was as if their hearts stopped just to feel the warm sun's sweet caress on their skins. Akane was surprised when Ranma put his arm around her without a word. For once Ranma getting close didn't trigger Akane's anger. She let Ranma hold her as the sun slowly rose. They sighed as one and stared into each other's eyes. All the feelings they had felt throughout the year surfaced in one huge flow and they held each others' hands and looked out to the horizon. A small tear fell from Ranma's eye. And for once, he didn't hide it from anyone. Akane squeezed his hand and felt herself welling up. She touched Ranma's cheek and smiled sweetly at him as he did the same. Ranma pulled Akane to him and they closed their eyes. Just when they were about to kiss a voice from inside the house stopped them. "Ranma! Akane! Breakfast's ready!" Kasumi called. Akane and Ranma both sighed and stood up, still in each other's arms. "Well, I guess its back to reality huh?" Akane said reluctantly. Ranma just smiled at her and hugged her as he whispered into her ear, "Things will never be the same now, and I just want you to know that I really care for you." Akane whispered back, "I care for you too. I just hope that it will never change." She walked to the edge and turned back when Ranma called her. "What is it?" Ranma smiled broadly and said, "Don't worry Akane, there's always another sunrise." Akane smiled at the thought and went down into the house. Ranma looked at Akane as she disappeared downstairs and said, "Yeah, there's always another sunrise for the both of us..." He stared blankly into the sky and thought,

"It was so close!!!" Soun exclaimed as he looked at the video in front of them. They set it so it rewinded and played all over again. "If only Kasumi was with us to watch it, they would've kissed!" Genma said striking his palm with his fist. "Oh well, now where's my 2000 yen, daddy?" Nabiki said holding out her open hand. Both Genma and Soun sighed. Just then Akane entered the room and stared right at the video playing on TV. "AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!" Akane's scream echoed throughout Nerima. Ranma almost jumped and looked down at the pond. His pop and Mr. Tendo were in the pool with signs in their hands that said, "We're just innocent pandas!" Mr. Tendo even tried saying, "Growf," while Genma was doing the same in panda form. Ranma just bowed his head in defeat, "When are they gonna learn when to stop?" For once, Ranma didn't feel angry, he felt lighthearted. He smiled when Akane came to his side on the roof and said, "Just wanted to put a scare in them." They both laughed as Mr. Tendo still tried to 'growf' with no effect. The sun shone brightly on two young lovers with their hands together, laughing.
