BACKGROUND:

Makoto is a strong-willed and independent person. She is usually the first to engage in battle, as she is sometimes quick to anger. As the tallest of the inner senshi, Makoto is an imposing fighter. However, she is very gentle-hearted and tolerant of her friends' shortcomings. She often plays the role of peacemaker when a disagreement arises between them. Her strength and stature make her an invaluable part of the team.

As the Princess of Jupiter, Makoto is assigned as a protector of Sailormoon. She takes this job quite seriously, and acts as a bodyguard toward Usagi. Originally, Naoko (the creator) intended Makoto to be the eldest of the senshi. Although this was changed, her personality still reflects a sort of "big sister" attitude.

Makoto is as strong a friend as she is a fighter. She always looks out for the others and doesn't hesitate to put herself in jeopardy. Like her pals Minako and Usagi, Makoto can be a little boy crazy at times ("He looks like my old senpai!"). Her warm and fun-loving personality, however, makes her a great person to be with.

Her biggest personal dilemma becomes evident as the series progresses. Because of her strength and fighting skills, Makoto tends to view herself as more masculine than she'd like. She fears that people will see her as nothing more than a tomboy, and not bother to get to know her as a woman. However, these characteristics are possibly her greatest assests in battle, as she is not afraid to get her hands dirty. Makoto is probably one of the strongest inner senshi of them all.
