BACKGROUND:

In her human form, Sailorsaturn is the weakest of the senshi. She has several health problems and can't withstand strenuous physical exertion. She is a quiet girl who spends much time by herself, quite similar in personality to Setsuna. Her best friend is Chibiusa, and the two spend much time together.

Sailorsaturn is also known as the Messiah of Silence, as noted by her father, the villainous Professor Tomoe. In the S season, she is transformed into an enemy of Sailormoon by the Professor and his Witches 5 group, who hope to make her into a sort of twisted anit-Christ. Later on, Hotaru becomes Mistress 9, an adult version of herself bent on conquering Sailormoon.

As a senshi, Hotaru is one of the most powerful (in contention with Sailorpluto--an ongoing debate between Saturn and Pluto fans alike). In fact, she is the only senshi who could conceivably destroy the world. She controls the power of Death, but also of Rebirth and new life. When she is killed in a lab accident, she is reincarnated as a human child to bring the news of Nehelenia's return. Raised for the second time by Setsuna, Haruka, and Michuru, she begins to grow at an alarming rate; soon she reclaims her power as Sailorsaturn and once again joins the other senshi.

Hotaru is a caring and empathetic young girl, with a unique gift to heal wounds. She has few friends because most other children are "freaked out" by her power. However, she is very steadfast and determined, willing to unleash the power of death to protect the Moon Princess.

Silence Glaive Surprise-- A very powerful attack. She raises her glaive above her head as the screen becomes silent and turns to black and white. Then she smashes it down on the gound, creating a huge explosion. Note: this power is different in the manga. See below.

Silence Glaive Apply-- Only in the manga. The original name for the Silence Glaive Surprise.

Silence Wall-- A purely defensive attack in which she creates an invisible wall of protection. Can stop any manner of evil attacks.

Death Reborn Revolution (Death Ribbon Revolution)-- Her most powerful attack. Hundreds of ribbons surround her and her target. The enemy is destroyed. In the manga, she is reborn after executing this power.
