Ranma Saotome-Ranma was just an ordinary 16 year old male martial artist on a training trip with his pop until a fateful dive changed his life forever. While training at the cursed grounds of Jusenkyo, Ranma was knocked into the Spring of Drown Girl. Now he turns into a busty young girl when hit with cold water, but a splash of hot water will change him back, at least until next time. Ranma is stubborn, egotistical, and dense. Because he's so wrapped up into himself, he doesn't see the obvious. Ranma does know that his girl form gets a lot more food than his male form.
Ranma is a strong martial artist and specializes in teaseing Akane, and beating on his pop. He isn't very good in school, though. His idea of flirting is to tease, he always teases Akane, it's obvious they like each other. He always rescues her from trouble. Ranma usually speaks before thinking, getting bashed into oblivion. He normally resents being a girl, but will often be girly to trick someone. Ranma is a very dedicated martial artist. He never backs down from a challenge. He hates being called wimpy or girly and fights with his dad all the time.
Ranma's one and only fear is cats. He has a phobia of them because of his father. When Ranma was young his dad had read in a book about a legendary technique called Cat-Fu. The training consisted of tieing meat around Ranma and throwing him into a hole filled with starved alley cats. In mastering the technique he managed to lose his sanity. He would litteraly become a hissing raving cat that only someone he loves could calm him. Of course his dad couldn't do a thing but Akane can get him to calm down, that's for sure.
Genma Saotome-A man gone panda you could say. He's often the cause of Ranma's troubles, engageing him to everyone. He's Ranma's cowardly father. Genma has done some pretty bad stuff in his time, like takeing his son to Jusenkyo and then getting him cursed, but that doesn't mean he's all bad. he's got good quilities, it's just that there's so few nobody really knows about them. He's determined, blunt, single minded, and insensitive. He usually plays shogi or go with Soun, though for a while he did have a job at Dr. Tofu's office.
Nadoka Saotome-This is Ranma's mom and Genma's wife. She doesn't appear very often because, well, she's a lot of trouble. Genma told his wife that he'd make Ranma a man amoung men or he'd commit sepuku (suicide), thing is Ranma's part time girl. So every time she comes to the Tendo's looking for her husband and son she finds Mr.Panda and Ranko Tendo. Ranko claims to be Akane's country cousin but she's really Ranma. Nadoka carries around a large sword and is very good at cooking. She is nice and very loveing, but lonely.
Soun Tendo-The owner of the Tendo Dojo, he breaks out into hysterics almost all the time. Soun was once married but his wife mysteriously died. He now has 3 daughters, 2 free loaders, and no source of income, what a family! Soun is just as big a coward as Genma, though you might expect it more from him. Both Genma and Soun are always pushing Ranma and Akane together.
Kasumi Tendo-Kasumi is 19, happy, and a little simplistic. She always sees the up side of things, thinking everything about her family and life is normal. She's a very simple person, and she loves to cook. She now plays mother to her two younger sisters, Nabiki and Akane, and to the rest of her house hold. I don't know how shemanages to pay the bills for the house. She is often happy and always trying to help, even when she is sick. She sometimes has this sense of knowing everything, and often gives Akane advice. Kasumi is a great cook, and she really likes Dr. Tofu.
Nabiki Tendo-Nabiki is the middle daughter at the age of 17. She's the best extortionist around, she's often seen with a camera or abicus counting money. She sells pictures of Akane and female Ranma to Kuno, time with them, and even gambles on Ranma's fights. She does have a special place in her heart for family though, often giving discounts to Ranma and co. She doesn't get a long with Kuno (then again, who does), though some people seem to think they make a good couple (me for instance). In fanfics some people hint that she is the source of income for the dojo.
Akane Tendo-Local tomboy. She trains with heavy weights and usually acts before thinking. She is always bashs Ranma when he says something something rude or stupid. In her heart she loves him but she's too stobborn to admit it. Kuno is obsessed with her. Because of this obsession she had the whole male body of her school fighting her every morning just for a date. Akane always won though. Akane can be sensitive, and for a while she liked Dr. Tofu. She thinks of Ryouga as a good friend, she cares about him a lot. Once she almost told Shinnosuki she loved him, but that was because she thought he was dieing.
Akane is the world's worst cook, she has problems boiling water! But she means well, she really tries. Ranma usually calls it toxic, which results in him getting pounded and _then_ haveing to eat it! Akane over reacts and some times jumps to cunclusions, by the end of the episode Ranma's usually flat. She is very protective of her pet P-Chan (Ryouga in cursed form). Ranma usually winds up in the kio pond for beating up on P-chan or for her food coments. In all truth, nobody likes her cooking, unless it's made with the "water of life" and then it's normal, even said to be the best Shinosuki's ever eaten.
Tatewaki Kuno-His first name really is Tatewaki, but he goes by Kuno the Rising Star of Furinkan High. Or by "Blue Thunder" or just Upperclassman Kuno. Kuno is the school's champion in kendo, or Japanese fencing. He's also said to be the school's biggest pervert. He's best remembered as the boy with the sword that spouts poetry. He has a slight delema though, he can't seem to choose between his pig-tailed goddess (female Ranma) and his noble Akane Tendo.
Kuno is always hounded by Nabiki because he's rich, she's always mooching money out of the boy. Though Kuno is 17, he's denser than wood. He has a problem grasping the fact that male Ranma and female Ranma are of one body and soul. Nabiki once told him something similar to that and he now thinks Ranma is an enslaver of women. Kuno has this impecable timeing to show up just as Ranma has gone female, or he'll just show up to ambush Ranma in the worst of times.
Kodachi Kuno-Yes, this is Kuno's twisted sister. She goes to an all girls school and is the champion of the Rythmic Martial Arts Gymnastics. She cheats by disabling her compitition long before the match. She once faught female Ranma, and boy was that a mess. Of course Ranma won. Kodachi likes to use sleeping powders. She's even got a couple powders that paralize you. Kadachi calls herself the "Black Rose" and always leaves a trail of black rose petals behind her. She has this wicked evil laugh that rings through out the night. She talks a lot like her brother, but not always so confusing, you can at least understand her. Kodachi is obsessed with male Ranma, and hates female Ranma. Is there some kind of pattern forming here?
Sasuke-This little ninja serves the Kuno's. He usually wears a black suit and he has two protruding teeth that hang out like a beaver's. He's very short. Though brighter than the Kuno's by far, he's still not smart enough to leave them and find better work. The Kuno's use him, takeing advantage of the fact that he'll be ther forever, if they're lucky. He's very short. He's faithful, tricky, and not very good at martial arts, did I mention he's short?
Diasuki and Hiroshi-These two are Ranma's so called friends. They are always telling him to share his women, like Ranma controls the fact that they wont leave him. I think Hiroshi is the brown curly haired boy and Diasuki is the black haired boy, though it's hard to tell. They are very minor characters in the story, but very important in a couple of episodes.
Ryouga Hibiki (my fave)-Ryouga is the Eteranlly Lost Boy. He is also known as P-Chan. Ryouga and Ranma were in the same high school before Ranma went to train in China. They both went to an all boys school; where lunch was a battle field. Ranma would always get the last bread of the day, grabbing it just before Ryouga could. Ryouga soon challenged him to a duel. Ranma waited 3 days for Ryouga, but then left for China. Ryouga showed up the next day and then vowed revenge on Ranma for walking out on their man-to-man fight. Ryouga followed Ranma to China and back. Ryouga next encountered Ranma at the end of a school day where they began to fight. Ryouga found out Ranma's curse but then had to leave. Ryouga then came back the next night and again challenged Ranma...at 2 am.
Ranma discovered that night that he had knocked Ryouga into the Spring of Drown Pig. Ranma made a vow not to tell his identity. Akane then took Ryouga's pig form in as her pet P-Chan. Of course Ryouga fell in love with her. Ryouga and P-Chan are best noted by the yellow and black spoted bandana they both wear. Ryouga has overly large canines (those pointy teeth everyone has) and a heart of glass. He is unbelievably strong, shy, and probably as dense (or more so) than Ranma. Ryouga has the world's worst sense of direction and can often be heard saying "Where on Earth am I now!" Ryouga over reacts sometimes but he listens better than some of the other people on the show. He's a good friend and very loyal, though he'd never admit to being Ranma's friend.
Shampoo-Shampoo is a Chinese amazon from a village just beyond Jusenkyo. Ranma's guide took them to the village on the day they had a martial arts contest. Ranma and Genma eat Shampoo's prize and Shampoo challenged female Ranma for eating Shampoo's prize. Ranma defeated Shampoo, and then Shampoo gave him the kiss of death, symbolizing that Shampoo would track Ranma to the ends of the earth to defeat her. Shampoo didn't know Ranma turned male until he was in Nerima. Shampoo followed Genma-panda home and met male Ranma, not recognizeing him. Shampoo started yelling at Akane and Ranma kicked her weapon from her hand. By freak accident, male Ranma defeated Shampoo again. Now, acording to Amazon law, Shampoo has to marry Ranma. Of course Shampoo is still hunting female Ranma, creating a very memerable series.
When Shampoo does find out about the curse she leaves and goes back to her village in China. Shampoo later comes back with her great grand mother Coglone. Shampoo now turns into a cat because of a freak acccident at Jusenkyo. Shampoo was training and fell into the Spring of Drown Cat. Unfortuinetly, Ranma is scared of cats. Shampoo is always trying weird postions and magic to get Ranma to like her. She is best remebered for her purple hair and her cute chopped language like "Akane always such a violent girl." and "Nihao! Ranma date Shampoo, yes?"
Cologne-One of the best Amazons. Cologne was once described as the terror of China and is often called a dried up mummy, or monkey. She teaches Ranma and Ryouga secret Amazon attacks that make them stronger. Cologne is usually helpful but can get in Ranma's way. Dureing the beging of the series she is helpful but as it continues she isn't as nice to Ranma. She runs the Neko-han, or Cat Cafe. There are 3 branches so far, one in a mountain for the winter season, one on a beach for summer, and one in Nerima for whenever.
Moose-Moose is blind and he turns into a duck. He is loyal to Shampoo because he wants to marry her. He loves Shampoo so much that he wont fight her because he doesn't want to hurt her. He could beat her but that wouldn't mean she loves him. He often fights Ranma for her hand but he usually loses. He works at the Neko-han and is bullied by Cologne. He is a master of hiden weapons and his robe hides everything, includeing the kitchen sink. He once pulled a humungous bomb bigger than Ranma's room (or so it looked). Akane got really mad and kicked it away before it could blast them to bits though. She didn't even know it was a bomb. Mouse is best remembered for all the times he talks to other people thinking they are Shampoo. Once he was at Kuno's house and hugging this big fat statue bear and he said, "My Shampoo. When did you get so fat?"
Ukyo Kuonji-Ukenomiaki! However you spell it. I'll fix that later. Ukyo is another fiance to Ranma. When Ranma was little he thought Ukyo was a boy, when, really, Ukyo is a girl cross-dresser. She even went to an all boys school. She's really nice though. Ranma's dad engaged the two, of course. Ukyo is probably Ranma's best friend, and the two get along pretty well. Ukyo calls Ranma Ran-chan, and she's an experet at cooking ukinmiaki. It's like some kind of really good Japanese pizza. She likes to give Ranma free food (along with Shampoo). Ukyo is a very good friend, a mean, even when Akane is down she doesn't mind being nice to her, it just doesn't happen too often. Ukyo isn't a major character, like Ranma, Ryouga, and Akane. She still shows up, but mostly as a side character. In some of the fanfics I've read people get her and Tsubasa together. In others she gets Ranma, Ryouga, or some guy I've never heard of. I think Ukyo should get Ryouga, even though I'd rather have him, because they're good for each other. I'll ellaberate on that some other time.
Tsubasa Kurenai- Some thing like that. I'll have to fix that one too. He's a cross-dresser too. He likes Ukyo and knows that Ukyo is really a girl. He met her at their all boys school and Ukyo thought Tsubasa was gay. Of course Ukyo didn't know he knew. Tsubabsa followed Ukyo as she went searching for Ranma. Tsubasa dresses up as just about anything. A mail box, Ukyo's store sign, a coke can, a girl. He'd be kind of cute if he'd cut his hair and stop dressing like a girl. I guess he thinks Ukyo is gay or something. I've only seen one moviey with him and I'm too broke to get the last 3 graphic novels. Besides, it's hard to find a place that even sells them.
Happosai-The perverted little freak!!! He's Genma and Soun's old master and he's very powerful. He adopted Ranma as his heir to his teachings. He's kind of evil but kind of good I guess, but nomatter what, he's a pervert. He likes looking and feeling girls. He often goes on panty raids and steals them from women all over the city. They are his only weakness. As Ranma once so correctly put it 'He's a dried up, perverted, shriveled, old goat.' Any questions?
Dr. Tofu-Local doctor. He's a really good too, he's always fixing up Ranma. He's in love with Kasumi and when ever he sees her his glasses glaze over and he starts acting weird. He says "why Kasumi, what surprise to have you here" or something like that. Dr. Tofu knows all the pressure points and everyhting about them. He knows just about everything I guess. He also has a skeleton named Betty which he talks to. He once called Genma/panda Betty, it was a really funny episode. For a while he employed Genma/Panda and Shampoo. Shampoo was a nurse and Genma/Panda was an aid. Needless to say, it didn't last long. He has brwon hair held back in a pony tail and is very kind. He's very understanding, and he doesn't flip out about all the weird stuff that happens in Nerima.
The Golden Pair-The Golden pair are a two person skateing team. On the left is Azusa Shiratori and on the right is Mikado Sanzenin. Azusa loves anything that is cute. Once she finds it she'll take it at whatever cost and give it a french name. She once fell in love with P-chan and had a skateing duel with Akane and Ranma to see who keeps it. In that same episode she named a little fish cake Ranma threw at Mikado and a ducky blanket. Mikado is obsessed with kissing every cute girl in town. He even kissed female Ranma! Of course he's still trying to kiss Akane, but Ranma's always in the way. Now like Akane wants to be kissed by that pervert. Ranma calls him 'Mikado the Molester'. Ranma thinks of him as a bigger pervert than Happosai.
