Hello and welcome to the Kraiders' little corner. We are cousins (plus one Aunt--that's me) who started making a web page on the 18th of May 1997.
This will be our little memorial page. You can see what our very first web page looked like by clicking HERE. Of course, we were newbies then, so I think all newbies should be given a chance to improve on their pages.
We are not really sure if the links on the old gbooks in that page still work, but if you want to promote your page, you can go there.
Anyway, going back to newbies...I think what newbies should have is an attitude of humility and an open mind. There are lots of liars on the net who sign your gbook and say your page is great without really looking at the contents (so they can't really point out what's so great about your site!). Please don't let this get into your heads. We were disillusioned also, and it took us two weeks before we understood that the liars were saying nice things just to promote their pages. You'll see what I mean when you see our old page. It was a major YUCK!
And so we began all over again...Naomi was the first Kraider to make an individual shrine for her favorite SailorMars (July 12, 1997). This was when we realized that we could make good pages, and so each Kraider started making his/her own webpage to see if we had really improved. The rest is history, so to speak. Personally, I think we were able to make good shrines--even if we were only newbies then. I guess it's because we wrote from the heart and we understood what we wrote. I don't even try to write about something I don't know about as that would be quite embarrassing if I were found out ("You're a doctor of dental medicine and you still have to copy other people's work? Tsk, tsk! Shame on you, Ané!). So I guess, every newbie shouldn't despair that his or her page sucked so bad. All they need is a little humility and the desire to learn. Hey, even the experts we know have not stopped learning new techniques!
Sadly, there are web page authors who may be good with layout but aren't really that original when it comes to content. Some of my nieces have been a victim of this sort of activity. People would see how original they are and they begin to formulate ideas based on the ideas of my nieces and nephews (like all the new generation philosophers got their foundation from Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle). I will not mention any more who these people are, they know who they are. They even use words coined by my nieces...this is the way we find out if they even know what they are talking about. Like for instance, "Ice Senshi". No, SailorMercury was not known as Ice Senshi in the Japanese version. These are words that Bowaggi coined (I have never seen a page before Bowaggi that used the words "Ice Senshi"--and even if I did, I don't think it is something that is used to refer to Mercury but as something used to refer to the author of the page). "Thunder Senshi" is another example. Nope, SailorJupiter was never referred to exactly as Thunder Senshi, maybe the Senshi of Thunder and Lightning, but never exactly as Thunder Senshi. Like Ice Senshi, Thunder Senshi was coined by Jov, and it was not meant to refer to SailorJupiter but to Jov herself.
Sad to say, these idea-borrowing were done by web page authors who are not even newbies! They were even on the net long before the Kraiders came. And they happen to be overrated to boot! So anyone can't expect their links or their sites' names (and we sure as amalgam won't give 'em any awards!) in any of the Kraiders' sites, especially on this Fridge. Don't you think they've got enough recognition already?
So, if you happen to be newbies with original ideas, mark your ideas and brand them. You can't do that physically, of course, but it will be your mark. Unfortunately for the Kraiders, our trademarks have been overlooked--why else would people come to our pages, rip us off, and then take credit for it (we just caught one who stole Rae's backgrounds and images that weren't even anime-related but something that Rae created on her own)? Even gathering awards and recognition and applause from everybody else (like one page that got some images from Nao without permission and without editing the image, too)?
We don't exactly put links to some of your sites just yet but we give out awards for newbies because we think that some sites are promising enough. This is where we want newbies to formulate their ideas and grow on their own without having to follow the standards of other people, i.e. "the first name of the Senshi should be placed last"--well, the Filipino version of anime places the first name first! Another is "the spelling of the outer senshi's name should be with an 'oh'"--oh, but we can choose from either using the Japanese government's Kunreisiki and the Hepburn System, which is an American system of kana romanization! So, again, I stress, don't be intimidated with these standards, be humble in your page and if you're starting, make it clear that you are open to criticisms etc. (don't go around criticizing the "who's who" in the anime field if your page isn't up to par)--and don't go around signing gbooks leaving only your banners without a single comment.
Support the newbies. Kraiders Unite!
