Looking back on the history of My Little Pony, it seems that the more obscure a pony's coloring, the harder she was to find later on after her discontinuation. Perhaps a typical pony-buying Mommy, scanning the aisle of rainbow-colored pony packages, thought the electric lime green of Mimic the Twinkle Eye to be unbecoming of a proper little girl. She might then select a nice pink, heart-covered Heart Throb pegasus. On the other hand, she might have reasoned that the bright colors might clash with the pink and white Barbie color-scheme of the little girl's bedroom.
The rainbow ponies are no exception to this theory. Being such bizarre colors as hot pink and bright yellow, it's no suprise that these are some of the more difficult to find ponies.
