'Wendy - one girl's worth more than twenty boys!' Instantly, she pulled back the sheet and peeped over it, eyes dancing. 'Truly, Peter? Do you mean it?' He laughed, indeed almost crowed at his success, 'Yes, of course,' he cried. 'How perfectly sweet of you! I think I'll get up again.' She arranged herself gracefully on the edge of the bed, and he came and sat down beside her. 'I'll give you a kiss for that if you like,' she said. 'All right,' he said, 'thanks' - and held out his hand for it. Wendy stared at such ignorance. 'Don't you really know what a kiss is?' she asked. 'I shall when you give me it,' he replied. She was not sure what to do, but not wishing to hurt his feelings, she felt in her pocket for something to give, and found her thimble. 'There,' she said, and dropped it into his hand.
"It's twelve! FINALLY!," Duo, the motor mouth, sprang from his stiff metal chair and planted a big, wet kiss on his beeping watch, eyes filled with grateful tears as he nuzzled it lovingly. Quatre stood up with a laugh, gently pushed his chair in place; "You say that everyday, Duo." "But I AM hungry everyday. I'm starving! Besides, I missed breakfast this morning," Duo said and made a face. Trowa let out a good-natured chuckle, standing up also from his desk, "You miss breakfast almost everyday anyway. You should do something about your sleeping habits - you were close to being late for the meeting this morning." Being stomped on his sore spot, Duo groaned and made no effort to hide his annoyance, "Trowa man, by now you should KNOW that sleeping is the most important thing in Duo Maxwell's life and the whole world depends on it. Why you may ask? Do you have any idea how many innocent people would be harmed if I hadn't had enough sleep and accidentally fired a colony? Do you know how many small children would lose their parents and become bad kids and affect world's peace? Do you even KNOW how dangerous this world would become if I hadn't had enough REM?" "Maybe I don't want to know...or
as a matter of fact, you just told me." Trowa laughed softly as the two
walked out the automatic portal, their voices muffled as the door closed.
Quatre watched the two leave, smiling at the occasional blurred "WHAT DO YOU MEAN" inputs from Duo - and to think that these rooms were supposed to be sound proof. He piled the files he was working on in the corner of the desk and proceeded to exit the room, hoping to catch up with the other two. "Heero, Wufei, are you coming?" "I am coming now," Wufei replied
quietly yet firmly as he shut his computer off. Quatre couldn't help but
to beam at the simple statement - Wufei, the stoic and sometimes psychiotic
loner had shown signs that he was allowing his comrades in his world,
albeit just a small part. "And Heero?" "I have to finish this last part. I'll be there later. Don't wait for me." "Okay," Quatre smiled, pleased with Heero's positive response. Heero, the _other_ stoic member of the party had gone through a more drastic change than Wufei had, Quatre noticed. Even though every word from his mouth still sounded a little like a command, but the improvement was evident. Why or how Quatre wasn't sure, but he was impressed, finally they worked like a proper team. "Sure, we'll see you there." Heero looked up and nodded, resuming to his screen again. The electric buzz of the auto door was the only indication of the departure of his teammates.
Heero inhaled deeply and stretched his sore back like a lazy cat under the sun. It was an unwritten rule to him to only stretch when no one was insight. One of the few legacies remaining from his training as the 'Perfect Soldier'. Slightly bothered by the recently found 'weakness' within himself, he silently wondered what could have changed him, to make him perform mundane tasks like scractching an itchy spot or yawning (while trying hard not to recall the particular when Duo caught him yawning during a meeting). (Duo: "OH MY GOD!! Heero
just yawned!! Did you see that? *pulls at Quatre sleeve* Did
ya SEE that?? OH MY GOD! Heero just yawned. I mean.._THE_
Heero Yuy just yawned..._DURING A MEETING!!?? OH MY GOD!!
Trowa! Wufei!! Did you see that??")
Suddenly remembering his promise to meet the others, he turned the computer off swiftly and just as he was about to leave his desk, the door opened. It was Relena. Heero was slightly surprised to see her here. Well, _more_ than slightly. Heero had learned to be honest with himelf. Weren't foreign ministers
supposed to be really busy? The hay-colored hair girl walked
up to Heero, boldly staring at his blue eyes with an enigmatic smile.
"What do you want?" Heero asked with his usual bluntness. This was the only way he knew to approach this person. Relena smiled, her lips curved
up cutely, but not hiding the devilishness, "There's something I want
to give you." Relena extended her hand, her slender fingers closing into a loose grasp. Heero reached for it, but Relena tightened her grip, her smile deepening. Heero looked at her hand, and looked up again, "I thought you said you want to _give_ something to me?" "That depends whether you want
it or not. Try get it if you want it." Heero raised his brows. Relena was being uncharacteristically playful today. If only Heero had been more experienced with human relationship, or just a bit more sensitive, he would have been able to figure out that there was something on her mind. But he only nodded as an answer.
Besides he was too curious to think otherwise. Heero cupped her hand with both of his and gently, he began flipping her fingers open one by one. Relena first blushed by the sudden contact of warm hands, but the color faded when amusement took over. Heero reminded her of a kitten playing with a ball of wool. His face was set in a unappropriately serious expression (but cute, she reminded herself) as he held the secure cage of her hand, his fingers slowly prying it open. Relena indulged herself and
feasted her eye with his face. It wasn't everyday you could openly stare
at Heero and not be caught and asked "What do you want". Heero finally completed the job, his eyebrows cocked as he extracted the small object from the soft palm of her hand and held it on his index finger. It was a thimble. Heero looked up, puzzled, "Why are you giving me a th..." The remaining words were cut
off by a kiss. The thimble slipped from his
fingers and fell to the floor, a sharp clang echoed metalically in the
silent room. "Because I want you to have
it," Relena replied with a small smile, ignoring the heat she felt on
her face, "I think I should go now." Without looking back, she spun around
and hurried out of the room. Heero knew he must have looked pretty stupid. He didn't like that particular quality in himself, but he also knew stupidity comes in company of his newfound emotions as a package. He let out a small laugh, picking up the thimble and slipped it in his pocket. Touching his lips tentatively, his smile widened, "Lunchtime." End. 1998-06-13
