Headline: Andy can't 'change face'
HMM, you wonder if Heavenly King Andy Lau's face changed upon
hearing that the Sichuan government has decreed he cannot learn the
famous face-changing skill from acclaimed expert, 54-year-old Peng
Denghuai.
The newly-crowned Best Actor of the Hongkong Film Awards made a
trip to Beijing recently to learn the art from Peng.
The two even went through a highly-publicised tea ceremony, where the
latter accepted him formally as his student, the Shin Min Daily reported
on Wednesday.
However, the art of face-changing, which dates back to hundreds of
years of Chinese history, is a skill with strict rules that forbid outsiders
traditionally from taking it up. Women are also barred from practising it.
The Sichuan government is apparently appalled that "the secrets of a
prized national art form will be leaked out" to the 39-year-old Hongkong
actor-singer. It has issued a statement forbidding Peng from teaching
Lau.
It was also reported that the government viewed the acceptance
ceremony as "inappropriate" and may "take action against the art master
pending further investigation".
Peng was quoted as saying he still sees Lau "as his student" and has
indicated his regret that he is unable to "pass on a wonderful artform that
should have no national boundaries".
On Lau's part, it was said he would not pursue the matter any further for
fear of "complicating the issue".

Andy's acknowledgement of a master has caused not only some disturbances, it was reported that the school where Peng Deng Huai is working will punish Peng & wants him to write a report of self-criticism.
Now the Sichuan opera is divided to 2 rival groups, the matter is getting more & more complicated!
Said one Sichuan scriptwriter," Change-face is a skill & action, there is nothing to hold on die-hard, if Peng is punished by accepting Andy Lau, I'll stand out to defend for him!..I fully support Andy Lau in learning the art..."
Another lady scriptwriter said, " Change-face is the traditional art of Sichuan, the result of generations of hardwork in inventing it, it is not founded by Peng. He has the right to use, but no right to teach outsiders. We Sichuan opera will not let change-face be abused by a singer."
.....It was said Andy has called to console Peng, but the reporter contacted Andy's assistant, she said Andy did not do such a thing.

'The quintessence of a nation's culture not to spread to outsiders' these 6 Chinese words has made Andy Lau learning of Chinese art from Chinese change-face King Peng Deng Huai beset with difficulties, Sichuan Culture Dept has forbidden the learning.
If these 6 words have made Andy Lau failed to learn the art, this indicates that born & breed in HK, crooning song 'The Chinese' Andy Lau is actually taken as an 'outsider'. Failure to learn the art is alright, but at least the meaning of 'outsider' must be spell out, does it mean anyone outside Sichuan? Anyone outside Beijing Opera? Anyone outside Mainland China?
The author feels HK now under 'one country two systems', locally born & breed Andy Lau, is definitely a 100% Chinese, since he is a Chinese, why can't he learn the art, if the word 'outsider' is labelled on him, it is really unreasonable.

24/4---Very busy these few days, not much time to go chatroom, today go back to chatroom for a look.
After all the work in the morning, went bowling, never thought it was already said out by someone in the chatroom, next time don't need to write diary myself.
Actually things concerning me, it is better I say out myself, otherwise won't know which is true & which is false.
But this is an open affair, went bowling, sure someone will talk abt it.

23/4---Today don't need to go to work, early morning started to watch TV at home, watch~~~~~~& watch, watch~~~~~~& watch, wah~~! Actaully have so many 'funny' TV programmes to watch during holidays, such as 'Woman wooer II'(??), never thought holidays watch TV, is ? ~~~~so hard to watch!!!!! Andy
21/4---Rushed home to HK from Beijing, actually prepared to go to Tokyo, but because of celebration, the trip was cancelled.
Tonight celebrated with a group of friends from the media, 'mad' the whole night, drank a countless amt of red wine, never took so much wine in my whole life, not sure if I had done something I shouldn't be doing?!!!....Ha~~~~ha~~~~~~ Andy

Headline: Andy Lau attacks North-East
The newly-crowned Movie King Andy Lau sets to strike again to prove his status as singer/actor. On the 21 May he will hold a concert at the north eastern Shen Yang city, titled 'Jia Yang Nite' Andy Lau Year 2000 Concert.
One of the organiser revealed that the concert has been underway for 2 months, it is the first time Andy holds a concert in the north-eastern part, the venue is at a stadium.
The concert will last 2 1/2 hours, songs are specially selected, Andy has prepared well for it, he will come with an entourage of 116 from HK. Many fans from around Shen Yang from as far as Talian, Zhangcoon etc have booked tickets. The organisers are confidnt with Andy's concert.

Andy is hardworking & keen to learn, he appreciates Sichuan art of change-face, he travelled a thousnad mile to Beijing to acknowledge the master. But the situation as it is now, he may not be able to have his wish fullfilled, despite that he had declared he won't abuse the art nor perform in any occasion without the concert of his master, & his aim of learning is purely an interest in the national art.
According to news, Sichuan Culture Dept stressed again change-face is an exclusive art, a trade secret, it cannot be spread to outsiders. The officer said the process of acknowledgment of master by Andy Lau had not gone thro' the appropriate Departmental approval, what they had done was a personal action, it has to be investigated, the process was inappropriate.
It is only acknowledgment of master to learn something, but the matter has become serious, Andy would never have thought it will turn out like that. The reporter contacted him yesterday, he said he doesn't know the matter has become thus, his master has not contacted him either, he has to wait for further notice before he can tell all, if he has been rejected.
Accordingly, Peng has known the decision of the Dept, asked if he will still teach Andy? He replied, "It has already been acknowledged, tell me to teach or not to teach?" The newsparer from the Mainland commented that Andy may have failed to learn the art, but his contribution in glorifying Chinese cultural art is not to be belittled!

At Ocean Palace last night, Andy held a banquet of 84 tables to treat his fans. For 3 nights, Andy will continue with the celebration at Ocean Palace. Each table costs $3,000+, the minimun expenditure for last night will come up to $300,000 easily. Though there was no exotic dishes such as shark-fin, the fans felt warm at heart. It was a 9-course dinner with fish, prawn chicken etc.
The fans came as early as 6pm to queue up, some were from overseas such as Japan, Korea & TW, a separate counter was set up to registered them.
The fans were told to wear formally for the occasion, the man has to come with suits & ladies skirts, no T-shirt & jeans allowed. At first the fans thought Andy had something important to announce, maybe his marriage?? No one was allowed to take photos, entry was strict, limited to only AWC members.
Andy arrived at abt 7:30pm with his parents. He was dressed to the nines. Amid cheers he entered the hall at 8pm. A short clip on the HK film awards was played on the screen. Andy, together with his parents offered toast to the fans, he smiled happily to his parents, "Pa & ma, finally, I have become a movie King lah!" He joked with the fans, "Do you know what my pa & ma most worried about? They're most worried I will announce I want to get married this year! As I have not earn enough yet! Hahaha."
Andy keeps postphoning his marriage, he puts the excuse on his parents...
Andy was high, he actively went round the tables to toast with the fans, every table gets a chance to take photo with him. He treated the fans with the song Only You In Heart.
Andy's father was interviewed, he said he was v anxious that night , he never thought his son will win, he is v happy, haven't thought of what present to give to his son.
Accordingly, the first movie to be filmed later for Andy is Full Time Killer, the Japanese actor has rejected the offer to act with Andy, they are looking to the Korean actor who was nickname 'Korean Chow Yin Fat' to co-act with Andy.

Andy returned to HK from Beijing yesterday morning. 100 over fans were at the airport to receive him, the airport all at a suden turned bustlingly busy.
Andy said they had suffered quite a lot while filming the commercial, as they had met with No.7 & 8 grade sandstorm. The wind was so strong that he couldn't open the umbrella which was blown crooked, luckily the crew used big reflector to protect him from the wind, he is thankful to them for being so considerate.
The sand hit his whole body including face & mouth, everyday after work he went back with pockets full of sand.
Besides strong wind, it was v cold in the desert. The crew wore winter clothings but he & the female lead had to wear summer clothings, as the commercial was meant for summer. Luckily the big scene was taken in the afternoon when it was slightly warmer.
Filming was completed in 2 days.
After returning, Andy starts his celebration activities. Last night he had a good time with the reporters at Tsim Sha Tsui Jin Yi Hotel, he held a 5-table banquet to treat them.
Tonight he will hold another 100 tables at Ocean Palace to treat his AWC members.
Initially actually Andy had said if he won Movie King award, he wanted every fan to cook him something to eat, but he has over 5,000 fans, if 4,000 out of which cook him chicken wings, 1,000 cook him roasted pork, even if he were to take one bite from each, he will not be able to do so, so he changes his mind, & decides to give the fans a treat instead.
An extimated 6-digit figure is needed to hold the banquet.
Andy said he was too happy that day & he had forgoten to take some photos, he will wear the same suit & take some nice photos with the statutte for celebration toast with the fans on the net.
Andy also said he had forgotten to thank the friends who had voted for him on the internet. He wishes whoever possible help him to thank them for him, as in almost of the internet votings he won by at least 90% of votes. Andy sincerely thanks everybody...
Andy had said that he will tour the region to celebrate with the local fans, many have asked when & where he will be going. he said at this moment , he would not be able to make it, but he will definitely make time to visit the fans, please excuse him for the time being.

Recently Andy had gone for holidays & came back tanned. When asked where did he go, he just said he went to a place where there is sun & beach, telling people not to ask as he he wont answer. But at the fan club gathering, when the fans asked him where did he go, he answered outright, "I went to Tioman Island!"
Just where is this Tioman Island? (.....we know, it is quite near to S'pore, off M'sian east coast, state of Johor, in South China Sea, near to Mersing.....) It is an island holiday resort. Andy couldn't be going there alone, he went with his g-f of 14 years Zhu Liquan. The reporter who bumped into them was told Andy came with his 'wife'. The reporter noted that Andy not only went to Tioman island, he went to Bukit Tinggi summer resort with Zhi Liqian, the two were seen holding hands intimately. But the reporter had no photos to substantiate what he said.
The reporter has asked Andy's record co on returning home, if Andy had gone for holidays with Zhu Liqian in M'sia? The worker answered promptly, "Yes!' But on further questioning they changed their stance, saying there were 10 over people, they were not sure who the lady was, whether it was his wife or Zhu Liqian.

It was found that the Golf Club, Summer Resort & the plane package tour belong to 'Success Organisation', which is a family business of Zhu Liqian in M'sia.
....Miss Zhu has waited patiently for Andy for 14 years, her status seems to be clearer & clearer, instead of denying or admitting, Andy has been avoiding the topic, when confronted before, he gamely said, "This is home affair, not a scandal...." Looks like time for them to be open should be getting near....

Andy to share his happiness with all
After winning Best Actor award in HK Film Awards, from today onwards for a few days, Andy will celebrate with the media reporters & the fans, to thank everybody for the support. Andy is really very happy to win this award, so he wishes to share this happiness with the well-wishes from the media & fans. This Andy the new Movie King needs 4 days to complete giving the treat, the cost of the banquet is at least tens of thousands, but Andy's happiness is even greater than striking lottery, of course he won't mind this amt, his intention is to share his happiness with all.

According to a big-scale survey on the children & young adults daily life-style & consuming habits, by a TV station, 'New Century In Asia', the newly-crowned Andy Lau emerged as the most lovable actor among the children & young adults.
This clearly shows Andy's popularity, be it young or old, male or female, his popularity not only has not dwindled but increased .
The survey was from Oct to Dec '99, the interviewees are gathered from 14 different countries in Asia, total of 29 cities, from the age of 7 to 18, survey were on their daily activities, aspirations, wealth, view on new technology, toys, games, sports, entertainment, fashion, etc. The data consisted of 7,700 copies.
From the survey, of the most favourite actor among the children & young adults, the males choose, in order of merit, Andy Lau, Jacky Chan, Stephen Chow, Jet Li. The females choose Andy Lau, Xu Huai Yi, Gigi Leung & Chow Wei.
Andy has just nabbed the Best Actor Award, he as movie-tv-music three-prong artiste again becomes the most loved among the children & young adults, his attraction is definitely carrying all, sending all his opponents fleeing....

19/4---Now I'm at the border of Beijing, at a desert, ai~~~!! Don't even have a phone, really very difficult~~~~!! Finally found a phoneline with IDD connections, I can e-mail my diary back.
Fierce sandstorm, wind from all directions, wind carried with it sand swirl 'round' & round' hitting me, this feeling~~~~~, so special, ha!!!ha~~~~~~, but very tough.
Never thought desert is so cold, the female lead has 98lb at the beginning, now becomes 89 ibs, when we film her standing in the desert, we have to tie some 'leads' to her ankles, just in case she is blown away.
After a few days of hardwork, finally completed, these 2 days, for nothing went to an adventurer's paradise, on the whole, if the shots turn out beautiful, is already worth the while~~~~.

NEWLY-CROWNED Movie King Andy Lau is wasting no time to
celebrate his Best Actor Hongkong Film award win with his fans.
The actor, who finally got the prize on Sunday after 20 years in acting,
said he would tour Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan and Korea to
thank his fans.
But that would be after his celebrations with his Hongkong fans.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday before flying to Beijing to shoot a
commercial, he said he would hold banquets over three days and nights
for his 6,000 Hongkong fans when he returned home.
But not every fan would get a chance to feast with his idol, it seems. Lau
said he would only host 200 fans a day on those three days.

2 nights ago (17/4) Andy set off to Beijing to film an ice-tea commercial.
He arrived at the airport early in the morning,but the fans were even earlier, abt 200 fans were already there waiting for him, they cheered , "Movie King! Movie King!" causing a rousing commotion. Andy was all smiles though he was still tired.
After the post-award party, Andy said he went home, he did not go anywhere to celebrate, as he was not sure whom to join, & to avoid missing out any, he went home to rest & celebrated with his parents.
Andy has planned that when he returns on the 21st, he will hold a 3-day celebrations. As there are 6,000 AWC members, he may have to hold 200 tables each day, to accomodate everyone.
In addition, his good friends in & outside the circles, relatives will hold parties for him.
Andy said after HK, he will go overseas to celebrate with overseas fans, his tour includes Singapore, M'sia, TW, Japan (yes in Ta Kung Pao, no in Show 8 & wen Wei Po). Beijing fans will celebrate with him first at the airport.
Asked if he was sleepless that night? He replied, "V good, best sleep in history!" He has dyed his hair blond for the commercial.
Andy said, "The fans in America, Europe & Japan are too far, I may not be able to go to their place to celebrate with them, those I can't take care, I will celebrate with them over andylau.com!"
The fans waved "Bye bye Movie King!" Andy smiled ear-to-ear...
