2 days ago Andy came back from his holidays, he is very tanned. Asked where did he go? He jsut smiled. He had gone to a place where there is sun & beach!
Yesterday Andy went to Shenzhen to attend Phoenix Chinese Channel's 'Millennium's Journey Trimphant Return Night' concert. The other singers attended include William So, Ko Shou Liang, Chao Chuan & others. Andy returned to HK right after the concert.
Andy was again the highlight of the show, his apapearence made the Mainland fans went frenzy. Andy appeared in the last but one item, singing Love U 10,000 Years. The stage was in the shape of a T, when Andy went forward to get near to the fans, one female fan rushed to the stage & put a red cap over his head. Out of courtesy, Andy wore the comical cap & continued singing. He was calm & composed. But soon another fan came forward & gave Andy a forced kiss! The other fans protested with screams. It was messy down the satage! Andy was embarassed he moved backwards, he dared not go forward anymore!
On HK movie awards in which he is nominated as Best Actor, Andy said he wishes to thank Johnny Tu, Lau Ching Wan & Yew Nai Hai who help him to have the breakthrough. Asked if he is confident? He said of course he hopes to win.
From voting on the net, his chance is the highest. Andy said he feels like winning the award already from all these praises. This half a year he has received many praises, when he accumulates all the praises, it will be as high as the trouphy! So he will imagine as he has already received the award...

Headliune: Copyright fee too high, Andy unable to film sequel of Full Throttle

Andy restarts Teamwork & hopes to strike it out in movies, the first of the movies he has in mind is to film sequel of Full Throttle. But copyright belongs to China Star who asks for an exorbitant price, Andy has to dropped the idea & change the name of the movie.
According to sources the theme of the movie is alike Full, instead of Derek Yee, Ko Shou Liang will be the director.
Mrs Heung was contacted. She said she has not heard abt Andy going to film a sequel, he has never told her that he will film movie himself or as a joint venture, neither did he approached her for the copyright.She added if Andy really wants the title, she will give it to him without a price, as they are partners for a long time. If it is working with Ko Shou Liang, then it has to talk over, no problem with Derek Yee.
Andy's manager Mr.Ye said he is not clear abt this matter," I'm not familiar with movies, but during the opening ceremony, I had heard abt filming of this movie!"

Headline: Johnny Tu has 3 movies nominated for the Best Director title, Andy Lau nominated for Best Actor Award

5th HK movie awards ceremony organised by HK Movie Critics Association (?? Correct me if I got the name wrong) will be held on the 19th of March at the Science Auditorium. Names of the nominees were announced yesterday. . Oridinary Heroes directed by Ann Hui has the most nominations (5), it is the hot favourite of the event. But the most eye-catching nomination is in the Best Director category, Johnny Tu is named in 3 out of the 4 nominations, the other director vying for the title is Ann Hui.
Out of the 28 nominations, Johnny Tu ocupies 1/3 or 8 of them. Running Out Of Time has 4 nominations, namely: Best Director, Best Actor(Andy Lau), Best Movie, & Best Screenplay.
When interviewed, Tu said he is most happy not because he is nominated in many categories, but he is most happy for Andy Lau who is nominated as Best Actor, he said, "V happy Andy has a share in the nominations, he is an actor I respect the most, he is professioal in attitude & has good actor ethics. Though he failed in his previous movie investments, he is still v persistent in it, it is v hard to come across one like that." He will rather either Andy or Lau Ching Wan win than himself. Tu is v humble in saying that last year not many other directors produce work so he stands a chance, he concedes that Ann Hui stands a better chance. ( Andy Town:.....such a nice guy...)

....There is tough tussle in the Best Actor category, the 4 nominees are: Anthony Wong, Lau Ching Wan, Wu Zheng-yee & Andy Lau.
.....Andy is currently holidaying overseas, thro' his manager, Mr.Yee,Andy said for years he has no chance to win this title, now his opponents are strong, esp Lau Ching Wan, but he has confidence, he hopes to strike again in the movies & has more chance to win the title.

The record co workers called him 'heaven-god' as he can go without food. His appetite is not big, he can survive with only a bun. hongkongmovie.com which organised Golden Sun Movies Appreciation, hopes that Chinese from around the World can vote thro' the net, to express their support for HK movies .The movies selected for voting are those filmed in '99.
The spokesman said he hopes this can reflect viewers personal views, as they may not have a chance to voive thier opinions openly. ....Anita Mui & Eric Tseng's Buddhist teacher arrived in HK for a 3-day Buddhist activity. Half of the production fee for this activity is donated by Andy. Anita admitted that she is the one who actively asked Andy for it. She said Andy is always v generous & he is a Buddhist himself but belonging to a different sect. Asked if she will convert Andy to her sect? Anita said religion depends on individual, there is no influencing of one another, ultimate teaching in Buddhism is the same.
Asked how much is the production fee? Anita refused to disclose, though Andy is not in HK during this period, he supports the activity....

Lately, there is a survey conducted in TW to find out the most popular actor. Chow Yin Fat is No.1 & Andy Lau second.
But Andy in a previous interview said that he admires Stephen Chow the most. He praised that no one can surpass Stephen's hilarious act, his comic movie is inimitable.
Though Andy has re-organised Teamwork & make it a multimedia co, his first love is still movie. He hopes to have more opportunity to work with Stephen. He will look out for script suitable for him...

....Lately Andy has a fancy for casual-look pull-over, but it is not the original champion or most expensive Bape branded products. The pattern resembles Bape products, but it is named as bRospRoducts, it established its name from imitation tees.
Though bRospRoducts stresses it is 'a local creation', but from Andy's pullover with the alphabet in front, there is evidence of imitation: a big colourful alphabet, Bape has it, Bape (By bathing Ape) is changed to 'by bRospRoducts', Bape logo 'ape head' is changed to '? head', whh are sewn onto the sleeve.
The only thing claimed to be 'local creation' is in the material used, it is definitely different from the usual cotton pullover.
How did Andy fumble this time in wearing 'local creation' pullover? Maybe his assistant help him to buy?!
....Andy has 3 of the big alphabet pullover, this shows how much he likes this pattern!...
After wearing the big alphabets, a few days later he again wore bRospRoducts pullover, but this time it has imitation look!
Andy has one with '759' pullover, the familiar '2673' was wore by Leon Lai before with much attraction! bRospRoducts said '2673' is the secret code of 'ape-man', how do they explain this '759'?


Since Andy prefers 'local creation' & he likes hooded pattern, Easy will introduce him this AFFA brand local product! AFFA is the same hooded pillover, pattern is cool, the design is apeman & space as selling point....
Other than loving local products, Andy has take note of the 40's pattern, just like the one he wore with the pants is 40's pattern, but the best of 40's pattern is from champion brand, so next time Andy can consider champion, there are many color & pattern to choose from!....

.....The cocktail reception saw an assembly of some of S'pore famous & influential personalities. Minister for Health, Mr.Lim Hng Kiang & Mrs Lim, graciously concented to be the guests of honour for evening. Popular HK singer/actor, Mr. Andy Lau, made a special celebrity appearence at National Cancer Center's invitation...

paid a visit to the NCC the following morning in order to observe some of the activities which are suported by CEF. Some of the areas he was brought to included the research facilities, the Cancer Education & Information Services, & the Morning lory Suite where he chatted with some very excited patients who were receiving treatment. His words of encouragement & warm, friendly manner really made the patients' day....

....Though she has a bf, Yeh Mau Ching, Chao Wei after filming The Duel, admitted that Andy Lau is her bf of choice.
She was once spotted having Japanese cusine with Stephen Chow, but Chao said Stephen is only like a relative to her, is not her bf & can never have love feelings.
She only loves Andy, she feels that when she goes out wih Andy, she is v honoured, maybe she is too vain?
"When I'm together with Andy, I can get lots of attention, this is the greatest enjoyment."
She feels that Andy is v sentimental, he is v gentle to the ladies, he is v romantic & v protective to girls.
"Girls who can be with him are v fortunate. But the only worry is he is really too handsome, girls may feel insecure." As a bf, Andy will give girls lots of fond memories.
In the movie, Andy always made her cry. "His Mandarin is v good, he always converse with me in Mandarin, & leads me to the stroy."
Whenever she was v involved in filming, & started to cry, Andy will cry with her, this made the emotional part of the movie v touching. Chao said she does not have this feeling for a long time, it was like during student days when she broke down crying in movies with her friends....
Chao commented Nick Cheung is like a brother to her, Su Yew Peng is only a friend with no love feelings.

Headline: WEST BECKONS FOR CONFIDENT ANDY

COULD the next Chinese actor to make it big in Hollywood -- after Jackie Chan, Chow Yun Fat and Jet Li -- be Heavenly King Andy Lau?
Well, he seems to think so. Over the Chinese New Year, the confident megastar said: "This year, I will act in a Western movie and it will be shown overseas. I hope to break into the foreign market. In the eyes of foreigners, I am always regarded as a good-looker."
However, he did not reveal which film he would be lending his talents to.
As for his singing career, the talk of the industry has been the merger of record giants Sony and BMG, which will mean Lau and another Heavenly King, Leon Lai, belonging to the same company and fighting to be the "Big Brother".
But Lau dismissed such talk with a joke: "Leon and I are both not No. 1, Ekin Cheng is the Big Brother because, right from the start, he was the Big Brother at BMG. Leon and I can only be No. 2."
But seriously, he said, because of the number of international singers such as Mariah Carey in the merged company, he might not even be in the top 10. Is that why he is looking at Hollywood?

6th Annual Top 10 Advertisements Awards, jointly organised by HK Advertisement assiciation & ATV, is having a press con today at Kwoolon Wan.
Andy's Ericsson hp commercial was refused entry last year, but this year it is nominated. ATV Ad Dept manager explained, "Last year there was some misunderatanding, now we have solved the problem, Andy's ad meets the requirements of contest, it is only normal to enter ."
Leon's & Aaron-Janet Jackson ads are both nominated. 38 ads in all.

Headline: Andy denied having accepted Western movie 'Worriers Of Dusk'

Lately it was reported that Andy has accepted a Western movie, 'Worriers Of Dusk', whh is invested by an American & directed by a French.
According to Andy's assistant, Andy had really contacted the producer, but has not confirmed the deal. He has only seen the script. She said, " Actually Andy has a few scripts on hand, such as 'Heaven Secret' by Teamwork. As to whh one to accept, Andy has not decided yet. Even if decided, shooting will start 6 months later."
Asked what is the possibility of Andy accepting this movie? She replied, " V hard to say! I think the chance on 'Heaven Secret' is higher."
Accordingly, the script was tailored for Andy, it was changed from a Japanese to a Chinese & took 6-mths to re-write. Andy's assistant confirmed this, but as the script keep changing, Andy has not confirmed filming it. Asked if Andy will make the Western movie his 100th? She said she has nothing to reveal.

Headline: 'The Duel' successful in bringing out Gu Long's intrigue swordplay story

Gu Long's swordstory on Western Snow & Yeh Gu-chen final duel at the summit of Forbidden City is always a draw for swordplay lovers, long before TV began filming serials on Gu Long's stories, Zhu Yuan had filmed this before, but the author has lost memory of it & has only a blurred impression on the original play, so he is not sure if the present director Andrew Liu has made any changes in the movie.
Evidently, this movie exhibits the bizzare romantic story of Gu Long, it brings to life Gu Long's expertise in bringing swordplay, love & case-solving together, it is quite interesting.
The point worth noting is, HK Dragon Year movies mostly involve case investigation, although always exaggerated & comical, but at least it meet the requirement of being rich in storyline, other than fighting, there is wit-pitting, stressing on good & evil, love & hate birrare interhuman relationship. HK movies re-stress variation in characters is worth praising.
'The Duel' is also exaggeratted & comical, the swordmen fly like heavenly gods, is v exagerrated. Nick Cheung as imperial secret agent Dragon 9 (impersonation of Lu Xiao Feng) is very comical but it is too unrealistic. Luckily the wushu director handles flying stunt beautifully. Nick is humorous, storyline has sudden twist, scenery has Northern appeal, boosted by Andy Lau & Ekin Chen astonishingly cool image, the movie on the whole is appealing.
This swordplay court-case arrangement is not bad, fast-paced & rich, from 009 capturing of King Of Thief at the motel to antagonising Yeh Gu-chen's declaring war at the summit, unsolved events come one after another. Just before the duel & the betting on it, a series of murders & revenge took place. 009 rushing here & there till the conspiracy is exposed, it is really varied & many.
Nick is both witty & humorous, he is the comical swordman.
But the man in the center of the whole show is still Andy Lau. He acted the lonely melancholy Cool-son Yeh, he has the 'God's favoured son's appeal, the hero of a tragic story. His secret love between the wilful princess leads to the failure of his plot, ending with a suicidal duel, all exudes a sorrowful & yet helpless state. Now Andy Lau has advanced in his style, he is maturing in his star-appeal.
Ekin as Simon The Snow Blower has not a big role, he is cool & quite, is low in profile, he just wholeheartedly loving Yang Gong-yu, diligently baking his Wife's pastry, he is cold & yet warm-blooded. Reluctantly he has the duel with Yeh, but he knows 'a hero treasures another hero', he is the high-powered swordman of the show.
Other than The Duel, Andrew Liu has filmed Storm Riders before, these are better than Young & Dangerous series, better than A Man Called Hero. Beginning of the year, is there a recovery for swordplay movies?... In this movie, the male leads outdo the females. The roof top of the place is too simple. But on the whole, this movie is entertining & definitely not boring.

Early yesterday morning Andy went to Guangzhou for the promo of the movie The Duel. He attracted huge crowd which was described as 'couldn't even fit in a needle'. But Andy is used to such surging crowd, he is happy to be able to send New Year greetings to the fans there.


Andy revealed that he has earlier on privately filmed a Western movie, but he will not reveal the contents of the movie for the time being. This movie will be released overseas. He hopes to be able to break into Western market, & more foreigners will get to know who Andy Lau is. He intends to work harder on movies this year & moves internationally.
Andy imitated Bruce Li's dragon's craw to greet the New Year, is he aiming to be like Bruce? Andy replied humbly, "No, dare not! But if I can fight into international market I am happy!"
Andy said in the Chinese society he is familiar to many, but the Westerners still take him as a '20-something handsome guy', & not as he is now. Asked, Leon commented he is No.1 if Sony merges with BMG ? Andy broke into hearty laugh, he replied," Leon said I'm No1, but I've different view! I say neither one of us is ! Actually Ekin is No1!"

Andy clarified immediately this is purely a joke, he continued seriously, " BMG & Sony are internationally comapnies, there are so many international singers, how can it ever be me No.1? Not even within the top 10!" Andy feels that as a singer it is important to do the music well & be recognised by foreigners, this is more important than whether No1 or No2...
