Andy is one who is tuned to market demand, he is an artiste who can calculate accurately, his recent collaboration with Kelly again created another sensation.
"This time the change over to mature look is not bad. (He thought I ask him abt his moustachee-look!) For many years the idol look has made me the comparision among the others, this time the successful change is good for me. The music is more mature, I should also gear towards maturity, as among the mature, I am the youngest! This will be better." He said self-mockingly.
Start from zero
Lately he is more at & more at ease with his filming, Running Out Of Time & Neding You not only a hit in box-office, they received rave reviews.
He in the movies seems to have entered a new era.
"It is not whether there is progress or not, it is the confidence of the directors have on me. Last time during filming they always focussed a lot on my face. Now I will discuss with them what I want it to be filmed, not necessary to film me, just film my feelings will do."
Maybe many directors do not take him as idols anymore, & want him to concentrate on acting.
"Even if they want to take me as idol is also not possible," he laughed , loud & heartily, v sincere & frank. "They give me a lot of space & confidence, & are quite willing to let me try new acts."
Someone giving oportunity of course is the reason, we as audience feel that he is not so self conscious on the screen, as if he has put down the load as an idol.
"Actually not true, you see the way I walk, it is the same on the stage & on the screen, this is the actual Andy Lau, now I'm even more conscious than before, I will purposely hide the actual Andy, & show the Andy that is less seen."
After the interview, some scribe at the side suddenly budge into his protected love-life. He smiled, head shaking. "I wont talk, means I wont talk, I wont~~ talk! Haha!" He was joyful at winning, just like a child. Steady & not perturbed.
" Maybe previously I am embarassed if I dont talk, but now realy dont want everybody to think I am beating round & round, at he end of the day still dont know what I am talking abt. Now it is" Not talking~~! (Laugh) I feel even better."

5/10---Today still in my holidays, fax machine at home received a memo, it is from the fan club reminding me to write the hand-note for the newsletter, so sit down quitely in the study room, actually lot of things to tell the fans, but after some time, use the simplest method to convey my message, I think they are sure to understand! He made a wish at his HK charity concert, he hopes he can be unfazed at 40. Yi..? Born in '61, Andy should be 39 this year?
The concerned is early to make his 40-year old vow, for 2 reasons :
1) well-known for being traditional, Andy. is following his Chinese zodiac calender to count his age, born in the year of cow, he is at the rightful age of 40.
2)He who is stepping into age of 40, he is not only felling satisfied with himself, he is exploding with confidence.

"In my ofice now, many of those holding important posts are all younger than me!" Andy crinkles his face in mock crying but still with a smile, "Never thought I'm already..." he erects 4 fingers, corner of his lips curving up, v mischievous-looking.
What is man at 40 most scared of?
" V~~ scared of long-sightedness, now people take out newspapers will ...!" He holds something far away & strains his eyes, wrinkling up his brows, then laughs heartily. "My skin is still v good, my stamina has no problem, only scared of long-sightedness."
How abt inner feelings?
"Oooh, feeling still v young! But on the atage must be careful with what I wear, otherwise, not nice to see, can be like one trying to look cute."
Somebody gave him a big cake, with Andy Era on it.
Production co, movie co, network co, Boss Lau career keeps expanding, he is becoming more & more like a business tycoon.
"Nope. I am not one who is quick in the steps, or one who is far-sighted, I am the v timid type, I will go slowly, singing & filming is enough." Andy denied with his usual humble style.
But on his wish for this year, still does not deviates from his career.
"I just finished filming my 100th movie, also the first movie done by my company since its re-launch, really~~ really want it to be v successful. But nothing is sure in this world, so I can only wish myself."
20 turn of luck
Iin showbiz 20 years, still a popular idol, sometimes there are certain reasons behind it.
"Ooor...luck is the most important factor, really."
But we all believe that success does not depends purely on luck.
"Hardworking is just part of it, luck is really v important. Of course, when one is down on the luck, maybe there is less confidence, or does not persists on. But, not everyone can be persistent, so I can only say it is luck. Actually my movie, my singing can be said to be bad once, but everyone really give me space to persist on." said he.
Then how abt his personal charisma?
"After seeing for sometime, all idols look alike, really what, I still feel must put in effort in the work."

Andy appeared in Central HK yesterday afternoon to film the MTV for the song City Without You for his latest Cantonese Album, donning full cops uniform, he was v smart looking, attracted lots of onlookers including many Filipino maids to the scene.
Andy has just finished his 40 year-old b'day, after a week of private holidays, he has started work by filming the MTV for his latest Cantonese Album. Andy has filmed many roles before in movies, he who has a good image is the model for many Hongkongers. Previously Jacky Chan was the spokesman for HK cops, in Andy's new song, Andy appeared as cop, under the hot sun, he with long sleeves & sunshades, look like he is more suited to be spokesman for police.
Yesterday Andy filmed the MTV in the busiest part of HK, the cameraman plus workers, Andy riding a police motorbike to film, immediately attracted a lot of onlookers. Few hundreds gathered to see Andy. Some yelled, "Andy is v handsome!" Andy's presence was like a riot, the place become chaotic. The female lead for this MTV is the present Miss HK pageant 'Most Beautiful Hair' winner. She acted a s Andy's ex-lover. Andy acted as a police, they meet by chance & rekindle the relationship. The whole MTV was beautifully done, of course Andy with his police uniform, is stunningly good looking.
Andy said, "I haven't acted as traffic police before, I an worried it will affect the image of the police, so I keep looking at the mirror, worried that the uniform is not neat."
As Andy has no driving licence for motorcycle, & he cannot drive a police motorcycle on the road, the motorcycle was being wheeled on the platform on the road, as the motion is v slow, the traffic jammed up, the fake traffic police was thus face to face with the real traffic police who came to the scene, the real & fake police encounter was interesting .
The Mandarin album is selling well in TW, record co in hoping Andy can go TW again,23 Oct is the tentative date, weather he could come depends on the luck of TW fans.

4/00---Lately my home change to using Mac cpmputer, as my younger brother is in printing & designing line, he is familiar with Mac. So I ask him to teach me on how to use Mac. In the process, I feel like I am like a primary school children, all start from beginning, but every step is interesting & new to me, actually Mac is quite easy to use & learn, the only drawback is its does not have so many games to play... 3/10---Other than having meeting in the office today, have seen all the script photos of The Fighter's Blues, thought of selecting abt 10 photos for promo, but find it v hard to pick or forsake, really feel like putting all in the cinema for ad, or can find a place to do an exhibition for all to see, Kuan Tang Fan Club not a bad place, search & search, take out 200 over photos, maybe I look more handsome, feel like selecting all those with me inside, but no choice, finally decided to leave it to other people, let the co staff select for me, not to bother myself too much, better go home early & rest ! 36.com held a poll on 'Which is your most rapidly unpopular singer'. From 30,000 over votes collected till last night, Andy Lau came out first as the one whose popularity is rapidly declining, followed by Nicholas Tse & Leon lai.
Lately Andy has set new marks on his music, movie & career, but the votes he collected was over 50%, Nicholas Tse abt 29% & Leon 16%. The other singers included Kelly, Aaron, & Wang Jie, but they got only abt 3% of votes.
The organiser concluded that the poll indicates opinion of certain gp of people, there is loop holes, such as rigging of votes, the artiste concerned should just take it as a guide. 2/10---Had a meeting with the record company this morning, Jacky & New Medoly helped me to choose the songs for the Cantonese album, after listening to 40 over songs, & some discussion, only 4 songs selected! Unknowingly listened to songs for a whole day. After work, thought of going to Nan Hua for bowling, but it was quite late at nite, finally decided to drive my new car for car ride, going east, going west, the feeling is v interesting! 1/10---It was almost past 12 noon when I wake up, after lunch, watch some Olympics, have a meeting at home, then nothing to do. Thought I will take another nap, then continue watching Olympics, unknowingly already 7+ pm after waking up, watch 2 v wonderful fireworks of the Olympics. After few days of holidays, feel very loose with time. Never mind lah! Let me lossen up for a few more days! Andy

Headline: Fire alarm at Andy's neighbour, washing machine caught fire

A block of building at He Wen Tian, near to Kaldoli, had a fire alarm yesterday. The fire involved a unit at the 4/5th floor. Fire was detected at abt 10 in the morning when smoke was found billowing out from the balcony, some explosions were heard. The firemen on arrival found the unit unoccupied & broke into it. The fire was put out after 15 mins.
Source of the fire was presumed to be from an old washing machine placed in the bathroom, that caused a leakage of electricity. The bathroom was burnt down.
Other than Andy, Sandra Ng, Leslie Cheung, Karen Mok were staying nearby.
Andy's father who was a fireman before, was v helpful he came to the scene to observe, anxiously asked questions but left after the fire was put out.
A female fan of Andy was found loitering around, wanting to see Andy once before she left, she likes to apply medicated ointment & was nicknamed 'Pai Hua You'...

30/9---Have not gone back to Fan-club for a long time, today specially make a trip to take a look, though not many people today, maybe because of holidays, I stay alone in my own room, feel v comfortable & relaxed. That's how, unknowingly I recall days in the Fan-club before, many happy scenes surface in front of me, hope in the future, can have more activities, let our laughters etched in our unforgettable memories! No mean feat
Since the launch of andylau.com on the 1st of March, Andy has been writing the diary everyday, the only day without diary was on his trip to & back from NZ. The diary is written daily & released at the site daily, it does not come in chunks of days. Andy is such a rspectable person with good discipline.
Incidentally, Katherine has been doing the same for Andy Town with daily update of news & diary from andylau.com, since the launch 2+ years ago, except when I go on leave. Way to go, Andy & Andy Town!!

29/9---Today have my holiday at home, after waking up, watch many exciting Olympics games, think a lot of things, then think abt why not go for a tour, but after thinking for a long time cannot think of where to go, so drop the idea.
Nothing to do, search here turn there at home, finally I found something that I have not done for a long time, that's writing Chinese calligrapgy, "Ooh no..." as I have not practised for a long time, already v out of touch, practise more this holidays bah. Andy

Jacky Chan & Andy Lau are to take actions to show their love. In X'mas Jacky will have a fund-raising activity for a TW Epilepsy Research Center, Andy Lau, under the arrangement of his branch company in America, will hold a charity concert in California, for a local charity organisation.
Andy's charity concert is still being planned, before his big-scaled stage play next year, he has some time to do a charity show. He will coordiante with the local California society involved, this activity does not involved the whole country.
Accordingly the Ameracan branch co is actively arranging with the locals. Most probably in mid November when Andy announced his paly schedule, the details for this charity concert will be clearer.
With appeal of big star, response of the Americans is usually v warm, everyone is too happy to see the big star. As to whether the star will go international, by showing knidness with action, he will definitely become more respectable & welcomed.

28/9---In a good mood today, had a very quiet bday yeaterday, though some media still not v cooperative, it has not affected my mood a lot. Today again put myself into work, though it is still my holidays, I go back to my office for a while, but it is so funny....like everything has nothing to do with me, feel so good! Will continue with my holidays still, I think my mood will continue to be good, after my holidays I will continue with some work for The Fighter's Blues, such as dubbing, music & writing songs etc...at the end of the month will know what the title of the movie is, hope it is easier to remember for all lah! HEAVENLY King Andy Lau sure knows how to pamper himself when it comes to celebrating his birthday.
The ballad singer-actor, who turned 39 yesterday, marked the happy occasion with an early birthday bash.
He was surrounded by a few thousand fans in Hongkong on Sunday.
The filial crooner also got his parents on stage to cut the enormous, three-tiered cake with him.
Even before that, he claimed that he had already eaten 50 slices of birthday cakes in a number of advance celebrations.
Looking quite the geek in a pokka-dotted white shirt which he (thankfully) hid with a sombre dark jacket, the gracious host mingled freely with his fans.
At one point, he even went on a food binge, devouring corns-on-the-cob, with amazing speed and grace, no less.
Knowing how tenacious the Hongkong paparazzi could be, Lau told reporters to leave him alone on his birthday because he would like to find some quiet time to do the three things that his hectic schedules did not always allow - playing mahjong, computer games and eating steamboat.
And the birthday boy's present to himself?
A black, bad-boy Toyota jeep which he modified with a hard top.

WILD CHILD Karen Mok has switched her object of desire from Ritchie Ren to Heavenly King Andy Lau, Apple Daily reported yesterday.
The two walked into a press conference hand in hand and appeared "very comfortable'' in each other's company. The singer-actress even kissed the handsome and still-eligible Lau twice.
But this time, to avoid incurring the wrath of Lau's fans, the kisses were chaste pecks on his cheek. She claimed they were her ""birthday present'' to Lau, who turned 39 today.
Barely two weeks ago, she wrapped her legs sensually around him during his concert at the Hongkong Coliseum. And a while back, Mok exchanged a very long and passionate kiss with Ren during one of her concerts.

Organised by Metro Radio stn '104 Good Friends Music Awards' was held last night. Awards for 10 Most Popular HK Singers in TW & 10 Most Popular TW Singers in HK were given out. The Top 10 HK Singers are: Andy Lau, Faye Wong, Karen Mok, Kelly Chen, Andy Hui, Sammi Cheng, Jacky Cheung, Gigi Leung, Leon Lai & Nicholas Tse. Aaron Kwok & Daniel Chan were out of the top 10. Andy Lau, Leon Lai, Chang Hui-mei, Tao Zhe were absent. Though they had prepared video clips, the audience responded with some disappointment for not being able to see the artistes. Luckily Andy Lau in his video clips requested the audience to sing bday song for him, thousands responded warmly by singing the song ....
Andy had earlier imformed Metro stn that he wont be attending & they are understanding, the award was sent to him.

27th Sept is Andy's 39th bday, he has bought himself a black Toyota 'Farmer's car' (jeep) as celebration. He made some changes by adding a 'hard support' at the back of the car. The car costs abt HK$300,000. This type of car is a fave in overseas, suitable for small family, other than carrying people, it can also carry goods. Toyota HK does not carry this model, it was specially ordered from Japan.
On the 24th, Andy had a bday bash with thousand of his fans from all over the world at Wan Zai, his parents also attended. Fans put up a paly for him, with dance & songs, this made Andy v happy.
Andy played games with the fans, one of which was competing eating food. Andy put sweet corn, roast chicken, & cake into his mouth, when he knew that he has won, he threw out all the food, he was such a joker. He said, "Of course I win lah, if female fans win, it will be trouble, as big mouth will eat till husband is poor, how to marry out? haha.."
After that, he wanted a fan to sing a duet with him, the winner can go to TW with him for premier! One Japanese was selected, because of language barrier, Andy said she didnot sing but still win the prize, the fan was so 'lost' & could only gazed at Andy ....
For his bday today, Andy will stay at home. He told his fans that he will go to China on the 26th for a network activity, after that he will return to his house, "I have only 2 holidays a year, Chinese NY & my bday I will be on holidays, if I still work on my bday, I will be too sorry for myself, hope everyone will understand me, let me spend the day peacefully."
The ways artistes spend their bbays is always the pursue of the media. Everybody is curious how Andy will spend his bday?
Andy alreday knows the tough task of the media, over at his andylau.com & fax to all the media, Andy announced his whereabouts, so that the media will not trail him, the first artiste ever in HK to go against being trailed, Andy is really praise-worthy!
Andy said he understands everybody is working too hard, so he thinks it is better to tell the media his closed-door celebraton, the 3 'Da's : Da mahjong, Da computer, & Da 'steam-boat' (correct me if I get this wrong. thanks!). The media need not waste manpower & equipments to trail him, he thanks everybody for the concern, he has received all the blessings from all, hope everyone can give him a peaceful & heartwarming day at home, do not wait outside his house.

In the inland internet poll to select Top 10 Unhealthy Songs in China, Andy's song 8 year-ago, Alone Secretly Having Fun, came out as the No.1. Jacky Cheung's Hungry Wolf's Legend is No.2.
Another Andy's song Toilet Bowl was No.8.
His other songs, You Are My Lady, & Jacky's Hair Untidy, were within the next 10.
Andy's songs Alone Secretly Having Fun & Toilet Bowl were controversial songs before, as the lyrics sounded sensitive, finally not even was it banned, it became more & more popular, plus Andy sang the song with the unique dance steps, it became a well-known gold song.
In Toilet Bowl MTV, the section where a child played with Goldfish in the toilet was deemed misguiding for the children, it was censored before it was released.
Actually lyrics of the first song, from Hongkongers view, it is not unhealthy, it is just a way of life for some people, but in the Mainland, the peole are used to being disciplined & view this as rebellious...
Toilet bowl is viewed as being unrefined, esp for those who is without a sense of humour...

26/9---It was lmost 2am in the morning when I returned home last night, this early morning have to go for a radio stn interview, though had slept for a few hours, still not quite enough, maybe bacause of holiday 'feel' coming up. Afternoon went to the hill for lunch, "zheng" (good).....Afernoon attended a private invitation party at Guangzhou, after reaching then realised that there is no 'permit', finally become nothing as a big turtle, ha..ha..ha...never mind lah...count it as going for good luck! 27/9---Yesterday Andy was interviewed by CNBC, an overseas TV stn, this prg is mainly to interview successful persons, all done in English. Andy's performance in music & movie is well recognised. Other than these, from a successful artiste, Andy has become a net enterprenuer these few years, & involved in some business activities. Andy is real telented & is a successful artiste undoubtedly, but Andy will not slow down, he has lots of plans for the future. No matter in what fields, hope the youngsters can take Andy as the role model.
