Translator's notes: As always, keep in mind that I'm translating NV from a Chinese manga, so there may be discrepancies from the Japanese version. Also, I've decided to modify my translations a bit. Originally, I have always tried to use a direct Chinese-to-English translation whenever possible. However, I've found that this is extremely difficult because some sentences simply don't translate well, and trying to find the right words is a pain in the neck. So, for this chapter I'm going to try to make the sentences sound better, yet still retain the meaning of the original sentence (in Chinese). I'll appreciate any comments you guys have about this. One more thing: my thanks to LaPy who helped on some "technical phrasing."

Seki recovers and continues, to the cheers of the class and consternation of Haru, "But, this aspect of her, I like too. Haru!"

Onada is standing outside the class door, with a female student.

 

Haru: Daiko-kun, what is it?

The female student runs off, shouting something about getting advice from Onada.

 

He hands something to Haru (some kind of food)

 

Onada: The "Seventh month gift"* she** wants to give you.

*I think it's it's a holiday, but I don't know which one it is.

**In the following lines, they're talking about the former P.E. representative of class six, Fujii. According to Lapy, who I got the Japanese pronunciation of the name from, he's called Fujii-kin; also, he appears in the first volume for a bit. So, he must be a guy right? However, Haru and Onada indicate this Fujii is actually a she. After agonizing over this, my conclusion is either Waseda forgot the sex of one of her characters, or the Chinese translators made a mistake.

 

He hands something to Haru (food I think).

 

He puts on a mock pleading expression. “Now I don't have the time to be regularly attending the committee, even though I've already switched with Fuji, but I think that there's still a lot of matters I have to trouble you with. So I'm asking after you”

 

He reverts to his normal way of talking. “So it's like this.”

 

Haru: I remember, after school she's busy chasing guys from another school.

That's okay. Anyway class 5's Watanabe almost never comes either.

Kanda: The position of P.E. captain isn't divided into semesters (in other words it's for a year).

Kanda (placating): Don't' be angry.

Seki glances at Haru and Onada, who are standing outside the classroom.  Haru is grinning, and they are talking animatedly.

 

Seki: Who's that kid?

 

Kanda: Eh?

Kanda: Oh, it's class six's "Daiko-kun." I think he's class's six's representative. But, since Fujii's period, he's like a "one-man team, because of his friendship with the other classes, Haru is helping him out.

 

Seki: I'm jealous of his dark skin! I want to tan!

 

Seki rips his shirt off to cheers from his classmates.

 

Kanda: So really he's concerned about being too white?

 

Seki takes off his glasses.

Seki looks at Kanda with a questioning look, putting his sunglasses on Kanda at the same time.

 

Seki: Why do you know so much?

 

Kanda: I have to converse with Haru sometimes.

 

Seki looks at him in shock. He whips out a sword, challenging Kanda.

 

Seki: So you are my real enemy!!

 

They end up hugging. Of course everyone else is watching them.

 

Kanda: Today, you can think whatever you want. Your emotions today are in turmoil, I’m unable…

 

Someone calls out "Kan-chan!"

Reiji: I've got the CD I borrowed…

 

Kanda notices Reiji looking at them, and he starts. Reiji takes in the scene before him, then asks, "Why are you wearing sunglasses?"

Nearby, two guys are whispering:

Haru: because it was so annoying to look at, I put it in the back. I never thought it would fall down and get stuck.

Haru (mad): Really, this thing is so important, and it also costed 500,000! I can't understand that person.

Kanda: I'm making running my daily work. I didn't think that changing the path today, I would see the "Sekiya" house nameplate. I thought it was weird...

From where you live to here is a long distance.

 

Onada smiles.

 

Onada: You worry-lover.  Be careful that I won't happily fall in love with you.

In the busy streets, Seki and Kanda are walking along, joking to each other. A voice calls out "You-chan!"

 

Seki turns around in anger.

 

Seki: Huh!?
