Only two regular chapters for this volume, folks. If only she could get those volumes out faster, I might translate them faster too. ^^
Nervous Venus Number 10
Pg 43
Chapter cover.
Pg 45
Haru is standing by the sink in her bathroom. She stares blankly into space, letting the tap run. She swipes her hand through the flowing water, the resulting splash bringing her back to awareness.
Pg 46
She looks down at the pool of water.
Pg 47
She clenches her fist tightly, her expression grim.
Pg 48
Even if I try my utmost to hide, there’s no way to escape
reality.
Pg 49
“Excuse me…”
Sakura, in a car, calls out to Haru and her friends, who are standing in the streets.
Sakura: Do you know where building #78 is? I heard that if you’re that there in line by 9 o’clock, you won’t get a space, so I hurried over, but I’m lost. I’m not familiar with the area…
Reiko: If you want to make it by 9, there’s still time.
Haru (to her friend):
Friend: The store with the famous sweets that you have to wait in lines all day for?
Reiko: But…
Pg 50
Reiko: Last year, the building was torn down, so it’s long gone.
Sakura starts in surprise and anger.
Sakura (pounding on her wheel): Chi! Duped again!! That brat actually tricked me again!!
2 wins and 3 losses!
Calm again, she replies, “Ah! Sorry! I forgot myself!!
She drives off, but not without horrifying Haru and her friends.
Pg 51
Reiko: That car’s trunk was glued to the railings…
Friend: Wah – what a durable car.
In school…
Reiji: Coming!! Number 30!
Pg 52
Reiji, attired like a ryokan staff worker, is wearing in a yukata. Outside of the room there is a sign: Buckwheat noodles shop – Kanda’s Hut.
Reiji: I’m sorry!! The tickets have already been distributed!
The students standing in the long line outside groan.
“What – ran out when it came to me~!? Gimme a chance!!”
Reiji: He says, “Only 30 portions can be provided every day, he’s very sorry.”
Haru storms into the room.
Haru: Hey! What’s going on!? How come the kitchen’s so messy!?
Kanda, standing in the back, is telling a student, “Those who get shrimp are only Prince and the first 5 customers…” Seki, slurping noodles off to the side, comments, “The noodles are kinda loose!!” (Seki, you greedy pig ^^ )
Pg 53
Haru (to her friends): Did you see…?
Haru sees them eating noodles.
Haru: Reiko…even you…
Reiko (sheepishly): Somehow…
One girl offers Haru a sample. “Come on, open your mouth!” Haru tries it and finds it delicious, to the amusement of her friends.
“Seki!”
A girl calls out to Seki.
Girl: May I…ask to you to come over here for a bit?
Pg 54
Seki is standing outside with the girl.
Girl: So, that…actually with regards to you I…can I say liking? Or that…I like you.
Seki facefaults.
Seki: Eh? That…I…
Why!? I’m always going on about Sekiya high and low, why does she still have to run here just to confess to me? I don’t understand –
Girl: Ah! Actually I know about the thing with Haru, it’s not that I want anything!
Seki (startled): She saw what I was thinking!
Pg 55
Girl: I just wanted to let you know the feelings I have for you, so…
Seki looks at her cynically, then puts on a smile and bends towards her.
Seki (false cheer): So it’s like this! I’m really sorry!
Pg 56
He runs away, calling “Farewell, lady!”
The girl’s friends gather around her, asking how it was. She tells them, “I don’t know how to say it, but I feel more comfortable…”
Seki walks back in a bad mood.
Pg 57
Kanda, washing the dishes, notices it. He suddenly holds up a pair of scissors.
Kanda: Do you need me to cut your hair?
Seki turns red. “No need! Thank you.”
Seki: Girls like those…modest on the outside, but in fact completely shameless, I hate the most.
Pg 58
Kanda looks at him contemplatively.
Seki: Does she expect me to say “Thank you for liking me” or other such disgusting words!
Since she doesn’t expect anything, she should just shut up!
Because on this earth there isn’t anything more annoying than being confessed to by someone you don’t like.
Pg 59
Seki: I understand this reason, so I purposely did that!
He gazes off with a melancholy expression.
Seki: Because in the moment that she confessed to me, I’m unable to do anything for her.
Pg 60
Kanda suddenly hugs Seki, embarrassing him.
Kanda: You’ve grown up!! Mommy is so happy!!
Seki: What!?
An elderly female teacher walks in, calling out, “Hello! Kanda, are you done cleaning? You need to turn off the gas…”
She falls silent upon seeing Seki and Kanda embracing. Then she walks out laughing, saying, “The performance of the degenerate duo, I’ve already seen! I’ll leave you guys to lock the windows and doors!”
Seki and Kanda are both in shock. ^^
Sign: This is the degenerate duo’s “Second Advent of the Winter Period.” Excerpt from The Legend of the Degenerate Duo, Chapter 9.
Pg 61
Kanda: If you’re so concerned, then go thoroughly reject someone else again!
Seki starts in surprise.
Kanda: In any case you’ll definitely put on a laughing carefree face again!
Seki walks off in a huff. (Author’s comment: right on target).
Kanda: He’s really grown up!
(Author’s note: Please see the junior high period).
Because on this earth there isn’t anything more annoying than being confessed to by someone you don’t like.
This kind of person
Would do something like that…
Pg 62
Truly,
It’s not easy.
But, no matter what one shouldn’t give in.
Pg 63
To be tossed about by love.
Pg 64
It really is much too laughable.
Seki: Ouch!
Pg 665
Haru, carrying rolls of paper and sundry things, has run into Seki.
Haru: So…Sorry! I just turned my head.
Seki: What are those things? To be used in the sports competition?
For one person to carry all these, it’s too much!
What’s Watanabe thinking!?
(Note: Watanabe is on of the committee members).
Seki: Let me help…
Haru jerks away from him angrily.
Hatu: No need!
She storms off.
Seki (turns to the reader): Hey! This time I really didn’t have any schemes.
Two students to the side whisper to each other. “Who’s he talking to?” “Don’t know.”
Pg 66
Haru continues down the hallway, and almost bumps into Kanda this time.
Haru: Wah!
Kanda: Oh! That was close!
He takes some of her load.
Kanda: You’re carrying too much for one person!
Haru (gratefully): Ah! Thanks!
Kanda: Where’s Watanabe?
Haru: The baseball team’s been pretty miserable lately.
The club sempais are gathering the members, so he hurried over there.
Kanda (smiling): They’ll be miserable till fall. I’m secretly rooting for the baseball team.
Meanwhile…in the baseball club meeting, Watanabe and the other 1st years are being yelled at…
Haru: Ah! I tried out your buckwheat noodles!!
Kanda: Really? Next time I’m planning to buy pickled vegetables!
Pg 67
They arrive at their destination.
Kanda: To tell you the truth there’s been 3 people.
Haru: Huh?
Kanda: Although he’s always hanging all over you, but from spring till now, there’s been 3 people who confessed to him.
Pg 68
Kanda: Although he appears to be very faithful to you, his entire being is filled with emptiness.
He smiles gently as he hands the ruler to Haru.
Kanda: It worries one.
He walks away.
Pg 69
Haru (confused): He left?
She throws the ruler down in anger.
Haru: What is he bullshitting about!!
Always feeling
So annoyed…
Pg 70
Haru: Everyone around me is going on about Seki high and
low
But I’m always sharp-edged…
She starts, remembering something, and runs off.
Haru: The handbook!
Pg 71
She runs by her friends in the hallway.
Reiko: Ah! Found her! Want to go eat cold noodles today -
Haru: I’ll go later!!
Reiko: Then we’re going ahead!
Another girl: she’s as busy as always. (laugh)
Haru sees Onada, and calls out “Daiko!”
Pg 72
Haru: Ah – that’s good! You haven’t left yet.
She hands the book to him.
Haru: I borrowed it for so many days, I feel bad. I kept on forgetting to return it.
Onada: No need to be polite! We’re not using it till tomorrow anyways, you didn’t need to return in such a hurry.
Haru (confidentially): Actually it’s because I’m going to borrow a CD, and that’ll be 2 months.
Onada (joking): Aya! A repeat criminal!
Haru: Oh yeah! Are you the author of this picture poem?
She shows Onada, who’s blushing, a page out of a book.
Haru: I’ve love this now! So cute, so interesting!
Onada: Eh? You’re kidding! Really!?
Pg 73
Onada: Although someone else told me, that’s how I know…
Haru: I just happened to see it.
Oada; After seeing it, it leads one to think about leaving home - although it’s not what 15 yr old guys read. (laugh)
Haru: Me too! Me too! Let’s dance!
They smile at each other happily.
Sign: Of the same mind.
“I feel…”
Haru and Onada speak together simultaneously, “So calm!” They laugh and point at each other. “We have an understanding!”
Pg 74
Haru (laughing): I always feel that you’re a very steady person.
Because I’m so busy lately, so I feel especially calm.
She points at him. “The prime minister of calming down others!”
Onada (wryly): Hearing you say that, reminds of when old people often invite me to eat snacks
~Flashback~
Onada is outside walking his dog, and a group of elderly people on a picnic invites him to come over and eat.
~End Flashback~
Onada: Forget it! Many things happen while life on earth,
Pg 75
Onada: Therefore when you’re able to, just let yourself calm down.
Haru stares at him in wonder, then smiles.
So you say!
Pg 76
Haru: This way your mood will also be a little more pleasant!
Onada: How come only “a little!?” It should be “a lot!”
This kind of time.
If it can be cherished, how wonderful it would be -
