| Prince Mattiwaza, better known as the Black Prince, is the only son and heir to the king of Mitanni. He is strong, brave, cunning, and ruthless. Despite his fearsome reputation, the Black Prince is seen as a hero in his homeland. He fights for the freedom of his people, and to keep Mitanni from falling under Hittite rule. He captures Yuri in volume 5 and makes her one of his concubines in order to spite Kail. He eventually develops feelings for Yuri, and after the Hittite victory, gives her his pendant as a momento. *Spoiler Warning* The Black Prince got his scar when he was very young. He had a sister whom he loved very much (err...incestuous relationship). In order to keep peace with Egypt, their father decided to marry his sister off to the pharoah (who by the way was an old man three times her age...), and when he tried to stop him, his father used a wip and slashed it down his face. As he chased after his sister, she took off one of her earings and threw it to him. He has worn that pendant on a band around his forehead ever since. Later, he gives his precious pendant to Yuri as a way of remembering him. (Oh, and by the way, his sister became Queen Nefertiti of Egypt...) *Special notes*: Some Characteristics of the Black Prince and our opinions Personally, we like this character. One thing we love about Shinohara Chie is that she gives depth to her characters. The Black Prince was meant to be an antagonist in the storyline, but we are given a reason for why he behaves the way he does. We sympathize with his lost love, and also for his desire to keep Mitanni from foreign rule. We like the fact that he's not a typical "bad guy" who just wants to take over the world :). |
