Warning : This page requires Netscape or Microsoft IE 4.X for maximum enjoyment Tip 1 : Color Choices
It might be fun to pick wild color combinations, however unless you don't care if no one ever looks at your page, you should avoid this! It is better to pick colors that complement each other, and are easy to read, and background colors that are easy on the eye.
This text on a plain white background is already very hard to read. However, matched with this background, it becomes positively annoying! Although, this might not be my first choice for color matches, it is at least readable. Okay, lets turn this horrid color off!
As you can see, the combination of background and text colors are critical! In general, darker backgrounds require lighter text, and lighter backgrounds look best with dark text. Also, you should try not to use colors that are "close" to each other. No pink text with red backgrounds!
Tip 2 : Image Backgrounds
Of course, with most browsers, you aren't restricted to using just color in the background! You can also use images. One very important rule of thumb: Bigger is not better!!!!! For example, Ntescape Another important thing is to make sure you specify a background color (which is generaly compatable with your text) as well as a background image. Browsers default to different background colors, which may or may not be compatable with your text color. For example, Ntescape 4.X defaults to white, if your text is white or a light color, it might be difficult, or impossible to read until the background image loads. For surfers with images turned off, you might offer them a blank page!!!!
The background image you chose can also be critical. What appears quite easy to read in a white background becomes impossible to read in an outragous image background. |

Of course with the right color, even this can be made to work, however it is usually better to stick to a background image centered around one color. |
This back ground works well with a wide variety of colors.
Of course since it is light, darker colors go best.
Even our favorite green from above is almost okay!
Of course it is probably better to stay away from yellows... |
