The heading says it all. It's about MP3s and WinAmp. If you don't know what either of these are, read on and hopefully I'll explain.
MP3 stands for MPEG Layer 3 which is simply a compressed file format for digital audio data. The audio information is CD-quality and is relatively small enough for ease of transfer over the internet.
When I first came across MP3s back in October of '97, I immediately thought it to be one of the coolest media file types. The sound quality is excellent and the files are amazingly small compared to wave files. Today, MP3s are the preferred choice for large audio files even though others have been introduced including one by Yamaha.
This brings us to WinAmp. WinAmp is an audio player that plays MP3s among other audio formats. The player comes with a number of features, one of which is the option to use different designs for the graphical interface of the player. Being really bored one day, I decided to design my own interface (officially referred to as "skin"). I designed my skin after a SONY MD walkman which has a sleek and refined look to it while trying to keep as much to the spirit of the original as possible. The end result is what you see here:
I've also redesigned the WinShade mode to fit the SONY theme as well. Here's what the WinShade mode looks like:
All designs and artworks were done using Adobe Photoshop 4.0®. If anyone is interested in the skin or have any requests concerning MP3s, please contact me (I listen to R&B, hiphop, rap and some alternative). Otherwise, visit sites that specialize in MP3 such as www.mp3.com and be sure to drop by WinAmp's official site at www.winamp.com. You can download the latest WinAmp there and get the latest news about their next release.
