41: A Hidden Technique of Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu!
Reunion with Master Hiko Seijuurou!

Misao decided to take Kaoru to Kenshin and Okina gladly gave them the map. Kenshin drew his sword and attacked the man sitting in front of a furnace. He easily avoided it. The man is Hiko Seijuro, the 13th successor of the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu and a ceramic artist. He was almost shocked to see his student once again. Okina received a message from Aoshi and went to meet him. Aoshi was in search for Battousai and Okina refused the information. He told him that he would go after him and take him down if he were to disgrace the Oniwabanshuu and become a renegade. Aoshi walked away. He stopped when he saw Soujiro. He invited him once again to see Shishio. Aoshi changed his mind, in exchange for Battousai’s location.

It’s been 15 years since Hiko saw Kenshin. He asked why Kenshin came back. But He knows him well enough to see his anxiousness. Kenshin knelt down and asked him to teach him the secret principle of the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu. Hiko refused. 15 years ago, Kenshin left without permission, when he was about to be taught the secret. Kenshin held onto his cloak and begged. He told him about Shishio. Kenshin has to defeat him without killing him, and he has to be powerful to do this. Hiko thinks it’s impossible. A sword is a murder weapon and swordsmanship is a killing technique. No matter how you make it clean and beautiful, that’s the reality. 15 years ago Kenshin left to become the legend he is now. The Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu brings victory to its master because of its power. It’s a way to kill efficiently. Kenshin didn’t understand that he was responsible for all that was happening now. He was a self-righteous 14 year-old with a superb swordsmanship. He had a big heart that was deeply wounded and a permanent scar on his face. His sword had generated the ghost by the name of Shishio Makoto. Kenshin was stunned. Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu is a technique to protect people from the pain of life, but as a free sword belonging to no authority and Kenshin didn’t understand that. Therefore, he isn’t qualified to learn the secret.

Misao, Yahiko, and Kaoru got to Hiko’s house and the two hotheads tore the door down. Kenshin was surprised to see Kaoru once again. Hiko told him to fetch water while he rethinks his decision. Kenshin walked past everyone without sparing a glance. Hiko asked his visitors some questions about how Kenshin’s been using the knowledge he learned the past 10 years. Kenshin thought about his friends. He can’t allow anything to divert his attention from Shishio. Meanwhile, Soujiro presented the Juppon Gatana to Shishio, with Aoshi as an extra surprise. Hiko decided to teach Kenshin the secret principle. Kaoru asked Kenshin if he’s mad at her for coming. Kenshin answered without once looking at her. Kaoru couldn’t understand, but they also left to give Kenshin his needed concentration. Yahiko forgot what he had to tell Kenshin, but Kaoru remembered. Yahiko ran back to warn Kenshin of Aoshi’s presence in Kyoto but Misao held him back. Yahiko became wary of her as a member of the Oniwabanshuu, but Kaoru knew better. Misao begged her for information about Aoshi. Kaoru was willing to tell her everything, despite the inevitable pain.

42: Alliance Agreed! The Day When Shishio and Aoshi Unite!

Kaoru told Misao the whole truth. She couldn’t believe it all. Meanwhile, Shishio welcomed Aoshi into their hideout. Aoshi made it clear that he’s not joining and he’s not going to kill Battousai for them. Hoji told Aoshi of the info on Battousai, but Aoshi already knew about Kenshin’s new sword so he turned to leave. Hoji suggested using Okina as their bait for Battousai. Memories of sleeping young Misao and him leaving her to Okina rushed back to Aoshi. The Oniwabanshuu was reluctant, but they had to. It was all for the best. Aoshi wanted to defeat Battousai to claim the title of most powerful in all of Japan. He had to.
Hiko and Kenshin have started their training. Hiko still saw the fierceness in Kenshin’s eyes even when he was down. He won’t quit. He thought that if he worked harder on him, he might be able to beat Shishio. Meanwhile, the Fukuro, a secret ninja force was hired by Hoji to dispose of Okina. But Okina and the rest finished off the ninjas before they could do harm. He knew it was Aoshi’s doing. The next day, a Fukuro member came back to the hideout with a message and Aoshi sneered at their ineptness at taking care of an old decrepit man. It was a challenge from Okina and Aoshi went to face it. Okina was dressed in his old uniform, resolved in eliminating the man who dishonored the Oniwabanshuu. Aoshi never thought things would come to this. The man who helped him was now forcing him to seal his fate. Misao ran to the Aoiya and quickly left after she got the truth about Okina’s whereabouts. She could lose the man she was closest to, or the man whose love she wanted the most. She was the loser, whoever won the match. Aoshi and Okina begin to fight. Okina bruised the side of Aoshi’s face with his weapon, but Aoshi sliced it soon after. Misao was running and praying for a miracle. Okina realized how much Aoshi has improved. By forsaking his feelings, he was able to tap his inner energy. Aoshi asked him about Battousai’s location for the last time. Okina refused. He had chosen death. He was going to die fighting for Kenshin, to save his country from people like Aoshi and Shishio. It ended with Aoshi’s Herculean Sword Dance. Misao arrived and thanked god they were both alive. Too soon. Okina spewed blood and collapsed. Aoshi walked out and Misao asked him why and how he could have done it. Aoshi shooed her away. He never wanted to see her again if she wasn’t on his side. Misao was stunned. He told Misao to tell Kenshin that he’ll be waiting in Shishio’s hideout. Okina received 35 stab wounds. Doctors said that he could die anytime. Yahiko said another of his girl-belittling commentaries and 4 mouths rebuked him. Down he goes… Misao read Okina’s letter telling her of the end of the Oniwabanshuu. She won’t let it die. She will rebuild it and she will be the leader. Together with Kenshin, she’ll beat Shishio and she’ll have her revenge on Aoshi. Everyone was gaping the whole time. “Call me Boss. I’m the new Oniwabanshuu leader.”

43: Between Life and Death! Succession Technique, Mastered.
Ama Kakeru Ryuu no Hirameki

Hiko and Kenshin continue with the training. Hiko sat down and drank sake as he remembered the first time he met Kenshin. Kenshin struggled to get up. He was just 8 years old then, the only survivor in the massacre. Hiko arrived in time to save him. Now, Kenshin had to beat his master with the next blow, or else he won’t learn the secret technique.
He was a little boy protected by three women. He saw how they had been killed, how they died protecting him. They were begging to let the child live. Hiko was checking on Kenshin. He awoke and jerked his head up into Hiko’s. He knocked himself out in the process of landing, but he managed to scratch Hiko’s arm. With that, Hiko began to teach him the secret. There are only has 9 slash attacks and Hiko executed it with a god-like speed that was impossible to defend against - his Kuzu Ryuu Sen. After recovering from his initial shock, Kenshin tried it and landed on his face. It was almost perfect except that it lacked arm strength and weight. It was impossible for Kenshin, with such short time left. Hiko developed another technique, destined to be forever kept in secret. Kenshin gave his word. The only technique that can beat the Kuzu Ryuu Sen is the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu Ama Kakeru Ryuu no Hirameki. Kenshin was unsure of himself and Hiko walked away. He can’t learn the secret until he knows himself. He gave Kenshin overnight to search inside for what’s missing. Inside his cottage, Hiko drank sake as he let the memories rush back…
He came back to the village to check on the little boy and found him in the graveyard. He buried his three friends, Kasumi-san, Akane-san and Sakura-san, as well as the two thieves. He was the only boy in the group and he wanted to fight, but they wouldn’t let him. He searched for the best stones and dragged them into the graveyard for his dearest friends. They took care of him after his parents died and raised him as their own. There was no money in the village so they went to another town when they were ambushed. Hiko poured his best sake on the stones to honor their memory. His name was Shinta, too gentle for someone with a rough life. Hiko changed it into Kenshin. He was going to train him to be a swordsman. That was 19 years ago… and tomorrow will be the final good-bye. Meanwhile, Saitou has arrived. He came to check on Chou in prison when he saw Sano in one of the cells. The next morning, Hiko faced his student. He took off his mantle and walked purposefully to Kenshin. Kenshin realized what was holding him back was his fear was of killing his master. Hiko raced towards him. He must live for all of his friends. Hiko said that Kenshin must live. He has killed so many that he thinks little of his value. Use Hirameki to fight, yet not lose yourself in the slasher within. “You’re my favorite pupil and I guess I made you unsure so you would always need me in your life. Now, don’t worry about me. My fate is deserved. This is what becomes of a master who taught through fear instead of kindness. Now, go and destroy Shishio.” These were his last. He specially remembered when Kenshin laughed so hard after eating laughing mushrooms that he peed everywhere. He created Kenshin’s skills. He can also take him down. . Kenshin remembered what his friend said back then… “You must survive for you are young and haven’t had the chance to choose your destiny. Long after we are gone you will deserve the right to live your life… Choose to live!”

44: Battle of Indignation, Gathering His Strongest, Juppongatana!

Kenshin was combing over Hiko’s studio for the medicine, gave it to his sensei and prayed. Back in jail, Saitou denied his acquaintance with Sano and turned to leave. Sano easily broke out of his cell by using his Futai no Kiwami. Saitou only criticized his technique, unimpressed. He then walked away, ignoring the challenge, to Sano’s exasperation. He went to see Chou to get some answers regarding Shishio. He asked about the Kobe incident. Fifty excellent swordsmen were killed in just two hours. Who among the Juppon Gatana could do such a feat? Chou was stalling. Sano told him that he was afraid that Shishio would finish him, if he got out. A heated argument resulted between birdbrain and asparagus-head. Chou finally answered. There were only two among the Juppon Gatana who could’ve done it. It could be Soujiro and his Heaven Sword Technique, but he was on a recruiting trip in East Japan when it happened. Meanwhile, another member of the Juppon Gatana has arrived - the world’s greatest blind swordsman, Usui. He was one of the greatest swordsmen at the end of the Tokugawa Era. He fought Shishio and he was slashed across his eyes. Shishio taught him the Blind Sword technique – Eyes of the Heart. Shishio asked Usui to kill Kenshin and Saitou. Blind sword and Heaven sword were the two strongest in the Juppon Gatana. Saitou asked about Shishio’s plan of destruction for Kyoto. Chou told him that they were going to burn Kyoto, like the way they burned Shishio. Meanwhile, Soujiro’s back at the hideout from a 3-day trip to town buying delicious sweets. Everyone of the Juppon Gatana was there. Soujiro presented the box of sweets to Shishio, with a note, “The ship is ready…” The plan of leveling Kyoto was to be done tomorrow at 11.59 pm. Back at Hiko’s studio, Kenshin was so happy that Hiko was alive and he tried to hug his sensei. Unfortunately, Hiko didn’t like the idea of men hugging him, so Kenshin landed on his face. Hiko gave Kenshin a special sakabatou, with a reinforced hilt. Kenshin must develop his technique alone, with the freedom known only to a wanderer. He is forbidden to swear allegiance to anyone. He thanked Hiko for everything and turned to leave. Hiko still had to pass on something - the mantle given to each new generation, the proof that one has mastered the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu. Kenshin declined for it was too big to suit him. Kenshin decided not to live like his master. He must choose his own life’s work. Kenshin asked Hiko to keep the Aoiya safe. Hiko was infuriated by the insolent request. He then disowned Kenshin for not choosing the life of Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu, so now he has to look for another student to succeed him. He then wished Kenshin good luck and said goodbye. Later in town, Kenshin has arrived and Saitou saw him - perplexed as to the different man he saw through the window. Saitou and Sano were finally able to agree on the same subject, that of stopping Shishio and locating Kenshin. An almost hysterical Ayumi and an insult from Yusui greeted his arrival. Kamatari has also arrived. She and Ayumi exchanged their “greetings”.

45: Blown Away! The Battleship Rengoku, Stop Its Sails!

Kenshin just arrived at the police station by carriage and Saitou extends his warm greetings with his archrival turned ally for the meantime. He then proceeds to let Kenshin in on the latest news regarding Shishio’s diabolical plan of setting Kyoto ablaze that midnight. Saitou suspects a setup, a secret plot under Shishio’s sleeve and Kenshin agrees with him. Meanwhile, the Juppon Gatana meet and celebrate the imminent execution of their plans that evening. Kenshin remembers an incident in the Tokugawa Era, and suspects Shishio to use that same plot. Both Saitou and Kenshin swear to put a stop to this carnage as they head out to the door. Kenshin is greeted by Sano’s fist, to get the point across that he will not be left behind. The trio then set out on a carriage bound for Oosaka, with Sano noisily chattering on the roof. 5000 soldiers have already been dispatched by the police while Kenshin enlists Misao & the Oniwabanshuu’s help in protecting Kyoto. At the Aoiya, as the leader of the Oniwabanshuu, Misao contemplates on their strategy as she stands up to take charge in their mission to stop the fire. Kaoru and Yahiko pitch in their assistance while Saitou and Kenshin continue to discuss their approach en route to their destination. Kenshin confidently predicts that Shishio’s plan of hiding his boat among the ships at the dock for camouflage. Meanwhile, Shishio and his troops are onboard and Soujiro expresses his anxiety over Himura’s ability to identify their ship. But Shishio placates him by assuring him of victory. Ayumi on the other hand, balks at the old and rotten ship, only to be amazed by Shishio’s ingenuity as he shows her the ship’s ironclad interior. It was the Rengoku, a ship inside a ship bound to make Shishio’s dreams come true. Houji counts down Kyoto’s destruction just as a soldier reports of the police’s intervention with their plans. Usui and the rest of the Juppon Gatana decide to take matters into their own hands. The battle to protect Kyoto has begun. Citizens do their part along with the Oniwabanshuu’s help. On the rooftop, the Oniwabanshuu stand proudly as people rejoice to have them. Misao has just sent her team to their posts when Usui appears behind her, ready to strike. Anji steps in just in time to thwart Usui’s intention’s. Back at the Rengoku, Shishio isn’t at all bothered by the delay in Kyoto’s destruction. Then a soldier signals the arrival of Kenshin, Saitou and Sano. Unperturbed, Shishio calmly orders his crew to depart, thrilled by the knowledge of Kenshin’s ability to read his mind. Kenshin thinks of a plan of attack when a sudden explosion from Shishio’s ship ensues. All 3 are stunned to see a black steel ship. Shishio introduces the Rengoku and promises to destroy everything with it.

46: Burning Rengoku! Shishio Makoto's Fortune

Shishio eagerly anticipates the realization of his dreams with his Rengoku and feels invincible as he sized up his opponents. Saitou and Kenshin decide to use Sano as their main man. The Rengoku fires a canon at the trio and they start to make their way to Shishio’s ship. Shishio congratulates his opponents, looking forward to foiling their plans, as a gattling gun is prepared as Sano makes his way to the ship. The canon is fired and Sano defends himself using Futae no Kiwami on the floating debris from the earlier explosion. Everyone is shocked at his ability, much to Shishio’s chagrin. Sano then throws Katsu’s fuseless bombs at the Rengoku. Damage is reported all over the once thought to be “indestructible” ship. The Rengoku slowly goes down as Shishio recognizes his opponents victory as his responsibility due to his failure in underestimating them. Shishio considers finishing his enemies right then and there but Soujiro reminds him of the ship’s condition. He then agrees to postpone the face-off at another time at the Rikutsurani Shrine at Mt. Hiei – Shishio’s stronghold. Saitou would rather not wait but Kenshin agrees to Shishio’s conditions. Shishio vows victory the next time and swears never to underestimate Kenshin again. He and his men row off as the fires of the Rengoku swallow Shishio’s momentary defeat. In the morning, Saitou sums up the night’s minimal casualties and tells Kenshin and Saitou to go wait at the Aoiya while he writes a report. Kenshin meets Yahiko at the Aoiya and tells them the news. He and Kaoru meet once again, and goes to check upon Misao upon hearing of her condition from Kaoru. He finds Misao totally mortified and infuriated by her encounter with Usui and Anji the previous night. Yahiko and Kaoru fill him in on the details, and also of Aoshi’s arrival. Misao recovered and explained everything. Then Omasu barges because Okina has finally awakened. Everyone rushes upstairs while Sano receives word from Saitou. Okina then asks Kenshin a favor, to kill Aoshi, but Kenshin refuses because he doesn’t believe that Aoshi has become a murderer, and makes a promise to bring him back. Misao’s tears fell upon hearing Kenshin’s decision. Sano then delivers Saitou’s message that they’re scheduled to leave tomorrow morning. That evening, Kaoru joins Kenshin on the rooftop as they both reflect on Kenshin’s upcoming battle. Kaoru hands him Megumi’s special medicine, and later everyone joins in the memorable farewell. The following morning, 3 shadows are cast by the rising sun, on a journey to change the fate of Japan. After the battle, Kenshin promises to go home to Tokyo, with Kaoru.

47: Crush! Futae No Kiwami. Pain of Sanosuke's Fist!

Shishio has just received word that Kenshin, Saitou and Sano are on their way to. Houji suggests a plan that’ll ensure them total victory – by keeping only the 3 strongest members of the Juppon Gatana to face their guests and sending the rest to obliterate Kenshin’s friends at the Aoiya, this way eliminating all the opposition. Shishio voilently disagrees to Houji’s dishonorable scheme, claiming that he is an honorable man and that he intends to keep his word. Houji fervently insists, thinking only of fulfilling his sworn oath to put Shishio on the throne whatever it took. Shishio summons the Juppon Gatana and informs them of their guests’ imminent arrival, and explains their previous failure as Houji’s negligence. They start to suspect Houji’s loyalty and are thinking of executing him. Usui then tries to extract the truth by breaking Houji’s finger. In order to prove the truth Houji severs his broken finger as sign of his loyalty to Shishio. Convinced, Shishio gives out orders according to Houji’s scheme. Kenshin, Saitou and Sano arrive and are greeted by Ayumi who would serve as their guide inside Shishio’s labyrinth. She then relays the instructions. Each of them is to battle 3 of the Juppon Gatana in single combat without interference from others. They agree with the conditions, but Kenshin insists that there be no bloodshed. They reach the first door. Sano is surprised to see Anji, and he steps forward to face him, wondering if the student can teach the teacher. They then take turns hurling accusations at each other for being liars as both spar with their beliefs. Sano then shows Anji how he was able to perfect Futae no Kiwami, but is stunned as Anji shows him what it meant to perfect the technique that he has developed and only he has mastered. Sano is now gripped with doubt as he thinks if he can truly beat him. Thus, the battle begins and each vow not to be defeated as they prepare to attack. Sano sees the other’s weak point and uses it to his advantage, but Anji has an almost impenetrable defense due to his expertise in Futae no Kiwami. Anji tells him to give up and his life will be spared but Sano refuses as he resumes his attack. He’s looking for the chance to deliver that one strike that’ll finish Anji. He finds an opening and hits Anji at his stomach, and he goes down. Everyone thinks the fight’s over but Anji stands up, taking out a mortuary tablet, which absorbed the force of Sano’s blow. Anji’s rage intensifies as old memories rush back..

48: The Focus of His Guze, Anji's New Reflection.

Kenshin wonders why Anji still carries the names of his deceased loved ones after all these years. Anji tells them about his life. It happened 10 years ago, in the year of the Anti-Buddhist Movement. He was a Buddhist priest who had 5 orphans under his wing. Anji, and the oldest of the orpans, Tsubaki, have always been close and the others have always teased them of getting married one day. One day, villagers informed Anji of the government’s decision to join the Anti-Buddhist Movement, so the villagers have decided to tear the temple down so as not to offend the government. Anji is concerned about the orphans but the villagers resented and blamed them for the government’s suspicion and lack of financial support since their fathers supported Tokugawa in the Boshin War. So they ordered them to move out, but they couldn’t wait and so they planned something sinister behind Anji’s back. The orphans worried about their home but Anji reassured and encouraged them to have faith. He prays for Buddha to watch over them. That evening, Tsubaki volunteers to watch over the children while Anji left for his cleansing ritual. Not long after, he saw the flames and quickly ran back to the temple, frantic to save everyone, only to be struck unconscious as he entered. Tsubaki and the others were trapped, huddled by Buddha’s side. Everything was leveled to ashes when Anji awake. All that was left was Buddha’s statue, and Tsubaki’s charred outstretched hand beneath the rubble. Anji questioned Buddha, but later on realized that it was humans who were responsible. He clasped Tsubaki’s hand, and smeared the soot onto his eyes, swearing to make those responsible pay. Now he stands in Shishio’s fortress with the vow to create a new society by destroying the old one. Anji’s fury is unleashed and the fight continues as each strike the other with all their might. Anji thrusts his sword to the floor to attack Sano from afar using Futae no Kiwami. He repeats this, but Sano jumps up and attacks from above. Their fists meet and both are thrown off by the impact. Anji is taken back in time when Tsubaki was still alive. In his moment of remorse, he sees Tsubaki and the orphan’s souls telling him to have faith in Buddha. A light emanates from Buddha and Anji is enlightened. Meanwhile, Sano is down and barely conscious. Anji tells them about the attack at the Aoiya. Kenshin leaves Megumi’s medicine to Anji as he and Saitou hurry to finish their business. The Aoiya is surrounded by Shishio’s forces. Kenshin and Saitou arrive at the 2nd room to meet Usui.

49: A Wolf Sees the Shin Gan. Explosive Zero Gatotsu!

Usui voices his intentions of killing Shishio after disposing of the two. Sano just regained consciousness after Anji’s ministrations. He gives him directions and Sano heads toward Kenshin. Meanwhile, Usui uses his prowess – Eyes of the Heart – to see through his enemies. Kenshin steps forward to fight but Saitou stops him and tells them to go ahead instead, so Kenshin and Sano rush to their next opponent with Ayumi hauled like a sack. Saitou and Usui exchange their “pleasantries” as the latter boasts of the brutal massacre of 50 policemen at Kobe for practice. Usui continues to see through his enemy, but Saitou accuses him of being a fraud and declares his intention of practicing Aku Soku Zan. Saitou attacks with Gatotsu but the ball of Usui’s spear deflected it and he was able to wound Saitou. Usui reads Saitou like a book. Eyes of the Heart originated from his experience when he was blinded in his battle with Shishio and was left to die in the woods. He was in terrible pain, and at the brink of death when he heard the sound of running water, which he later learned was a mile away. His skill originated from dying and being reborn. But it was nothing more than supersensitive hearing that can hear the body’s sounds and tell what state of mind the enemy is in. Saitou thanks Usui for his tale and chided him for his stupidity. He snaps his fingers and the ball of Usui’s spear shatters. Saitou then tells him about his own eyes of the heart, the ability to see the other person’s motive. He told Usui of his true motives that were contrary to his proclaimed intent of eliminating Shishio. Both men laughed at Saitou’s revelations, and the battle continues. Usui used his tortoise shell as a shield, deflecting Saitou’s thrust perfectly, thus enabling him to wound Saitou on his left thigh. Soon, Saitou was left with 2 wounded thighs. He continued to taunt Usui with the truth, so Usui tried a close-range attack to finish him off since he knew his secret. But before he could start, Saitou had already delivered a powerful strike that instantly cut Usui’s tortoise shell in half, the impact causing Usui to be thrown against the wall. He couldn’t fathom how Saitou’s Gatotsu could work. As Usui uttered his last words, his blindfold fell to the floor, leaving a bloody Usui cut in half. Meanwhile, Kenshin passes a room en route to his match with Soujiro. He stops in front of Houji’s library, having felt a presence. Sano prods him to stop dallying and Ayumi tells him that nobody’s in the room. But Kenshin knows that he can’t be wrong. Aoshi is in that room.

50: Time To Keep A Promise. Kenshin and Aoshi Battle Once Again!

Sano is concerned about the Aoiya but Kenshin intends to keep his promise of bringing back Aoshi. The door opens and he finds Aoshi waiting on a sofa at the far end of the room. He greets Kenshin, thinking of how he has given up everything just to have this duel to avenge his friends, and to determine who is most powerful. Kenshin can’t believe how much Aoshi has changed. Aoshi tells him to draw his sword, but he refuses to fight a stranger. He’s determined to change Aoshi back and fights without using his sword. He dodges Aoshi’s attacks by hurling books at him and using the shelves for leverage. Meanwhile, Ayumi telegraphs the details of the fight to Shishio, who in turn is delighted by the turn of events. This way, his opponents will be handicapped even before they face each other, thus eliminating them would be easier. Back in the library, Kenshin’s counterattacks aren’t enough and he soon finds himself face to face with Aoshi. Kenshin is forced to defend himself as Aoshi moves in to strike. Aoshi continues to attack using his Kodachi Nitoryuu, wounding Kenshin in the process. Kenshin fights back only to find it well defended against. He continues his assault using the Yin Yang Double Strike, which almost killed Kenshin if he hadn’t moved fast enough. At the Aoiya, the Oniwabanshuu find their attacks futile against Iwanbo as Misao faces Kamatari while Kaoru & Yahiko match up against Henya. Aoshi then orders Hitokiri Battousai to fight. It’s fight or die. Sano is worried about Kenshin facing a cold-blooded and twisted Aoshi. Kenshin then opens his eyes and hurls the truth at Aoshi, and is determined to beat him as Kenshin Himura. But Aoshi will only accept a fight to the death. The face-off continues, 2 swords against 1. Kenshin skillfully counters Aoshi’s assaults. Both men are bleeding, and Aoshi blames his failure on his speed. But Kenshin knows that there’ll always be that difference because he fights to live, not to kill unlike Aoshi. Aoshi acknowledges it, stunned by reality hitting him with full force. His hands are shaking from Kenshin’s revelation as the telegraph lie as Shishio’s eyes thru Ayumi’s help.
