sound

hell, since i live in _australia_, i know exactly how hard it is to get hold of jrock cds if you don't live in asia O_o;; . as it is, my own jrock cd collection is pretty small ~~ though i guess they were reasonably priced, considering i got friends in japan to buy them for me *arigatou!*. my collection shrinks and expands quite dramatically, depending on how many of my friends' cds i've borrowed, or how many i've lent out *shrugs*. the songs i've put up here are either in real audio or mp3 format ~~ i change between the formats depending on the length of the song, and how much i like it *wry smile*. longer songs, and songs i don't really like, are in real audio ~~ it's okay quality, but not great, especially if you're used to mp3s. shorter songs, and songs i actually _like_, are mp3. i'm trying to improve the quality, but you know, there's only so much i can upload with a slow connection, slow computer and slow modem *sigh*. not to mention that at the moment, geocities seems to have a policy of "if your file takes longer than 10 minutes to upload, we're resetting your connection." it's a bitch, but i get around that by using ms-dos ftp ^^;; . still, there are _limitations_ to such primitive devices (such as my patience), so don't be complainin'...

it's in your best interests to have:
(1) a G2 real player, or a real jukebox, both available at real.com
(2) winamp, or an equivalent mp3 player
(3) pkzip or winzip (all the newer files are zipped)
(4) getright (it's handy, but my files are tiny, so you won't need it)

hint:
right click and choose 'save', rather than left clicking, because in the case of the mp3s, geocities will say "we can't open this file", and in the case of real audios, you'll get your song encoded into html. you don't want that, trust me ^^;;

recent uploads

*looking tired*. mp3s are draining work ^^;;. ok. this time around, it's more buck-tick. and if you're getting sick of buck-tick, don't worry!~ for there will be no more mp3s until next april...when i'm home again from university *sigh*. or maybe i'll be nice and upload some over the next 10 days. heck, i even have 2 whole new kuroyume albums, courtesy of hirai. who knows what fun i could have mp3-ing those? ^_~;;

from 'six/nine' by buck-tick

loop 3.10mb, 4min39
- spoken-word piece. kind of notice how they like doing this with the first song of each album? i guess it's not a _must_ have, but i like it ^_^

kimi no vanilla 2.97mb, 4min27
- hehe. very cool song, this. atsushi sings it practically on one note, but don't let that detract from your enjoyment. it's...dark, but in a completely unpretentious buck-tick sort of way.

misshitsu 3.25mb, 4min54
- beautiful slower song. liquid-smooth, and extremely relaxing. excellent background music (very loopable). and it's uncannily like hyde's piece in 'siesta' *smile*.

kick 3.01mb, 4min27
- funky bass beginning, morphing into that well-known buck-tick groove. distorted vocals, more synthesizer than guitar. likeable *nods*.

itoshi no rock star 3.26mb, 4min50
- kind of up-beat, with a catchy lilt to the lyrics. not my favourite, though.

mp3

from 'driver's high' by l'arc~en~ciel

driver's high 2.77mb, 4min12
- one of laruku's best singles to come out recently (or so i think). don't get me started on the yuki remix of 'fate', though *shudder*. but anyway, it's super-cute ~~ kind of along the lines of 'dive to blue'. and the pv is _not_ to be missed! ^_^

from 'vanilla' by gackt

vanilla 1.83mb, 4min09
- everyone calls this his 'ricky martin' song. it's definitely latino *sweatdrop*. it's not so bad, but it doesn't keep your attention for that long. and while the english parts are really weird, rei-san tells me that it's actually japanese, and he just picked english words that _sounded_ like the japanese...

from 'koroshi no shirabe' by buck-tick

aku no hana 2.38mb, 4min15
- probably my favourite off this album. and since it's a compliation album (they're actually all reworked versions, though), it's the best of the best *wide smile*. very cool rhythm.

moon light 2.46mb, 4min19
- a little lighter than usual. kind of smooth and cheerful; atsushi's voice is less dark. pleasant melody, though it's not one of my absolute favourites. and (incidentally), it's the first b-t song i ever heard ^_^

taboo 3.20mb, 5min38
- catchy, funky, strange little guitar intro...it's really cute. if anything of buck-tick's can be called 'cute' *laugh*. then it morphs into that oh-so-familiar rhythm...cool! cool!

just one more kiss 3.08mb, 5min27
- my first-ever favourite buck-tick song. but i discovered the hard way that atsushi's voice is _way_ too cool to try and imitate in karaoke *sweatdrop*. but this song's so totally addictive, you can't help but try *grin*.

victims of love 4.10mb, 7min18
- *shrugs* nice, but i don't find it _that_ appealing. good for background listening, because it's a little on the long side.

love me 2.86mb, 5min02
- almost uncharacteristically-pretty guitar intro, and the interesting patterns stay throughout. it's nice. practically upbeat ^_~

hyper love 2.92mb, 5min09
- yeah!~ heavier b-t *grin*. it's got that cool sound back again, but without sacrificing a melody ~~ which should be pretty recognisable to people with _any_ exposure to jrock *nods*. it's a classic.

'corkscrew' by kuroyume

(1) masturbating smile (2'41") ~~ the chorus is totally addictive...but don't yell it out TOO loud ^_~
(2) faster beat (2'25")
(3) spoon & caffeine (2'28")
(4) goishou - after effect (3'11") ~~ um, not sure bout the romanization ^^;;
(5) candy (2'52")
(6) shonen - screw mix (5'21")
(7) tell (3'48") ~~ bass! and for those who don't know, i like hitoki best *pout*
(8) rock 'n' roll (3'21")
(9) hello, CP isolation (2'59") ~~ sounds like the mighty mighty bosstones *g*. first and favourite ^_^
(10) ya-ya-ya! (2'27")
(11) cowboy (3'00")
(12) maria - screw mix (4'35")
(13) knees to break (2'34") ~~ eer...very nice accompanying picture *choke, sweatdrop*
(14) last pleasure (2'46")

from 'live live live, tokyo dome 1993-1996' by xjapan

scars 3.00mb, 7min29
- *counts* i have 5 versions of this song: album, single, live, mp3 (someone else's), and radio edit. this is the best version, though...it's so damn cool!

drain 1.73mb, 4min19
- one of the less widely-known xjapan songs, but much underrated *grins*. i love screaming along to the (badly misspelt) lyrics (courtesy of hide and toshi): "i want to DRAIN, let me DRAIN. drain these feelings OUT..."

from 'eden' by luna sea

eden jesus 1.73mb, 4min19
- one of my favourite songs off 'eden'. dark, kind of fast and heavy. i love the guitars...and j's (?) cool whisper at the beginning: "jesus, don't you love me?"

steal 1.70mb, 4min16
- weird rhythm guitar, cool bass rhythm, and these oddly catchy vocals ^_^

lamentable 1.74mb, 4min21
- dark, fast-ish sort of song, with an interesting layer-effect on ryuichi's vocals during the chorus. very eden-esque (you know, captures the tone of the album ^_^ )

from 'dune' by l'arc~en~ciel

dune as if in a dream 2.22mb, 5min32
- one of my favourite laruku songs ever ^_^ . i rave on enough about this song in my dune-review page, so...just download the damn thing if you haven't heard it already!

taste of love 2.00mb, 5min00
- hey, i thought i should have my namesake song up here to download *g*.

shutting from the sky 2.22mb, 5min34
- cool, very trippy alternative rock *dal smiles*. the vocals are so odd...i can't tell if it's hyde singing 2 parts and tetsu one, or hydex2, tetsu AND ken. my first favourite off the album (well duh, it's track1)

from 'ultimate velocity' by penicillin

ultimate velocity crash 1.97mb, 4min55
- actually, i like the way it blended in with the previous track, 'chikyuu' *g*. typical peni faster-pace song, with a nice beat and eer...those distinctive hakuei vocals ^_~

prison 1.98mb, 4min57
- well...i'm a sucker for a song with a nice intro, what can i say? *g*.

chikyuu 2.47mb, 6min11
- 'chikyuu' means 'earth'. perhaps not stunningly original, but i like the way all the components blend. one of those slower-peni songs, but not too slow. pleasantly uplifting ^_^

tomorrow 2.06mb, 5min09
- pretty song, and nice to sing along to ^_^ . one of the few hakuei-vocal songs i can manage...

real audio

well, after a few months of wondering whether it was my computer screwing these files, geocities, or a combination of both, i've FINALLY discovered that they do, in fact, work. and quite well, thank you very much *lopsided grin*. um. actually, i think i'm discontinuing the RA section pretty soon (well, i'll keep these up, but no new ones), because these days i can make mp3s that are better quality than RA, but even smaller. so...*shrug*.

from 'never sold out' by luna sea

mother (live) 1.61mb, 6min58
- this is the oh-so-beautiful live version from the xmas 95 tokyo dome live ~~ you can probably recognise ryuichi's intro from the 'rewind' vid. oooh, pretty lightshow! pretty sugi playing his pretty violin! i love this song. REALLY love it. it's my fave LS song. eerie, beautiful...wow...

end of sorrow (live) 1.04mb, 4min31
- luna sea aren't called a live band for nothing. 'end of sorrow' always sounds great live...well, in my opinion *cheerful*. good for karaoke, too. this version was done on 98.12.8. i actually like the older versions, where ryu's voice is more _rock_.

dejavu (live) 1.06mb, 4min34
- 98.12.20, in tottori-ken. one of their older songs, but it's been given a makeover since the 'image' days. ryu's little "uh-huh" in the middle always gets me, though *laugh*. god, he can be annoying!

from 'complete singles' by glay

mitsumeteitai 652kb, 4min13
- actually, this is the live version from glay's 98 tour, 'pure soul'. not bad...nice boppy rhythm. keeps reminding me of something else, tho...*can't think WHAT*

beloved 733kb, 4min44
- hm. sounds almost acoustic...which is nice. kind of simple, but cute two-guitar bits.

yes, summerdays 809kb, 5min13
- i'd call it a typical glay song. not particularly memorable (perhaps like 'yuuwaku' or 'kanojo no modern'), but pretty good...and i like the chorus ^v^

from 'honey' by l'arc~en~ciel

honey honey 582kb, 3min46
- hyde plays the rhythm guitar part. but an average song, IMHO ^^;; . and besides, i paid $8 for ONE song! *grr*. but the pv's cool...a girl licking honey from barbed wire ^_^

from 'live live live, tokyo dome 1993-1996' by xjapan

amethyst 981kb, 6min20
- pretty intro piece with piano and full orchestra, from the tokyo dome live on new year's eve, 1996 *slightly wistful smile*. has the introduction for the members as well...

from 'misery' by hide

miserymisery 771kb, 4min59
- it took me a LONG time to figure out he was saying 'hallelujah miserable' even AFTER seeing the lyrics *grin*. i love this song.

LEMONed i scream 415kb, 2min41
- had no idea this was mostly in english. but it's cute ^_~

from 'beauty and stupid' by hide

beauty and stupidbeauty and stupid 642kb, 4min09
- hide at his ecchi best *grin*. if you can understand japanese, take a look at the lyrics. the chorus is strangely quotable...*heh* (baby i wanna be your dog)

squeeze it! 356kb, 2min18
- reminds me of 'easy jesus' off '3,2,1' by zilch. but i like 'easy jesus' better.

from 'tell me' by hide

tell metell me 728kb, 4min42
- a personal fave *smile*. a pretty melody, kind of sad. and i was surprised to hear hide really _does_ have a nice voice... (as in when he's not screaming or swearing *g*)

scanner (ai no dyuetto?) 501kb, 3min14
- wacky hard-rock duet with ryuichi (yes, THAT ryuichi). weird ^_~

from 'eyes love you' by hide

eyes love youeyes love you 900kb, 5min49
- hide's first single. more pop than rock...but it's got a cool electronic sound. despite the pun in the title, hide didn't write the lyrics to it, only the music.

oblaat 739kb, 4min46
- nice beat, cute guitars and backing vocals. i like it =P

from 'zan' by dir en grey

zan 771kb, 4min59
- lots of heavy breathing and gasping by little kyo-chan...and it's the song which taught me the word for 'saliva' *grins*.

yurameki, s.n.y. mix 1.15mb, 7min38
- one of the few remixes that i actually like. it's not really dance ~~ more like a heavy sort of groove ^_~

from 'jealousy' by xjapan

jealousy es dur (piano solo) 286kb, 1min50
- one of yoshiki's prettier solos, i think. it's nice ^___^

desperate angel 895kb, 5min47
god, it's _so_ overtly american 80s! *cringe*. brings back memories, though...

white wind from mr martin (pata solo) 156kb, 1min
- hm. black-american soul influence?

stab me in the back 598kb, 3min52
- classic X style. if you like vanishing visions, you'll like this one ^_^

from 'the ballad collection' by xjapan

crucify my love 695kb, 4min30
i was so surprised at hearing toshi actually SING, that i thought it was another vocalist *sweatdrop*. that was in the days when i was new to X, mind you ^^;;

the taste of love
