Kakyusei (Lowerclassmates) was
first released as a game for the PC and the Sega Saturn by a videogame
company named ELF. The PC version is H but the Sega Saturn version was
rated H but really is not. The Sega Saturn game and the PC game was so
phenomenally successful that Pink Pineapple decided to make it into a OVA
series . This version is commercially availible as "First Loves 1" and
"First Loves 2". The other version, which is the one that is going to be
fansubbed, is the Studio Elf version. These two version should NEVER be
mixed up.
The series is about a girl named
Yuki Mizuhio. Mizuhio is a top tennis player at her school, is incredibly
beautiful but does not want a boyfriend. Then she finds out that Nanase
Tohru will be living with her. Mizuhio's brother and mom think that this
is great but Mizuhio doesn't. Then at school, the gossip spreads around
that the two are going out, then Tohru goes on the PA system and corrects
everyone. This is what happens in the first OVA. The total entire OVA series
is 4 OVAs long with a two different versions for OVA #4. This is where
Tohru and Mizuhio confess their love for each other. One version of the
4th OVA depicts them in a sexual act. The other version does
not. Which version of the 4th OVA that will be fansubbed is
not decided yet.
I really don't know that much about
the TV series. All I know is that the TV series is currently finished and
the first LD went on sale in the month of September. The catalog number
for the LD is KSLA-53728. That is all that is currently known.

It's been a while since fansubbing came public and got well known. People have seen fansubbers come and fansubbers go. But not one person has ever seen someone fansub and OVA from Pink Pineapple...well, except Arctic Animation but, they're fansubs aren't really worth it. From my contemplation, maybe it's because of Pink Pineapple's reputation about releasing only hentai anime, (Which for people who don't know, Hentai anime is anime which only features sex and that's it.)where tentacles or bondage is involved in the plot. Maybe is that they don't know exactly what those series are about and won't even bother finding out. I really don't know. Everybody has their own reasoning and views on matters. But personally, I think that those people have really been misinformed. When I asked someone what they thought Kakyusei was about and what genre would it fit under they replied soft-core hentai. Out of the four OVAS, which total about 180 minutes, only 1%-3% is actual hentai(and it's not bondage or tentacle, but it's romance). That is 5 minutes, to the most. And a lot of more popular shows, like Ranma ½ features more nudity than these four OVAS put together. I really am puzzled why people would skip over this title. Personally, I think that the chances of this being brought over here to the US is extremely rare, even though the original Doukyusei is commercially availible (*see the Doukyusei 2 Fansub page). Maybe a reason why I think this series is not commercially availible is because the (alternate) Pink Pineapple version is commercially availible as well. Oh well. Who really knows why this isn't commercially availible or why no one has fansubbed it. All I know is that this is an OVA series that looks incredibly good.
