Having a high degree of intelligence, she graduated from university at 14. At the early stage of real battles, she boasted a higher Synch-rate than Shinji and Rei. The suicide of her mother led her to grow into a character of extreme agressiveness. She could only keep her mental balance by making outward remarks about her own excellence. My summary: Asuka is one of the most tragic of the characters. Her mother went insane and had to be instatutionalised, where she had replaced Asuka with a doll, thinking it to be her daughter. Her mother then hung herself, which Asuka saw with her own eyes. She is strong of character, and she hates failing. She herself starts going insane towards the end of the series, and only in the movie 'The End of Evangelion" does she finally snap out of to kick some butt.
