The next day, the group broke camp early, and Khirah walked into the camp with her bedroll, and supplies packed.
"I will come with you Lina. And Zelgadis, I will help you find your cure, but not at the price of another's life." Zel nodded.
The group traveled till mid day where they stopped at an inn. Khirah, who had never seen Lina and Gourry's eating habits stared at the two in shock at they packed away plate after plate. And Amelia wasn't very far behind.
"You okay Khirah?" Zel asked as he saw the horrified look on Khirah's face.
"I think I am going to be sick." Khirah admitted. "How can one so small eat so much?"
"You get used to it. " A slight smile played upon Zelgadis' lips. Someone giggled, and Khirah's head whipped up. Amelia glanced up from her soup, and when she was that Xellos was standing by their table looking at Lina with a strange look on his face, she choked on laughter. Amelia couldn't breathe, but now one was paying attention to her.
"Hello Xellos." Khirah nodded her head at him, and the Trickster Priest grinned and opened both of his amethyst colored eyes and winked at Khirah dramatically. The exchange wasn't lost on Zelgadis, and his eyes narrowed in suspicion.
"Khirah, how do you know Xellos?" Lina asked.
"Sore wa himi" Both Khirah and Lina clouted him over the head.
"Don't even think about it!" Lina growled.
"Thank you." Xellos grinned widely.
"Fruitcake." Khirah muttered. "You're sick!"
"You noticed." Khirah reached out her hand and touched the tip of Xellos' upturned nose.
"Fireball!" Xellos was consumed by flames, and his burnt body fell on the ground smoking. Khirah smirked, and dusted her hands. "That should shut him up for a while." Khirah turned and look at the group. "Don't forget, I am half Mazuko." She warned, and the other shuddered. "What? I'm not as bad as him." Khirah gestured at Xellos twitching on the floor. The other shuddered at the thought of two Xellos' "Do you want to hear the story or not?" The other nodded their heads, and Khirah sat back down in her chair. "Well as you know, I was born a long time ago, I think about five hundred years to be exact. Well I mastered Shamanism by the time I was about eleven, I mastered it right after I was taken by Rezo, so then I began to make my own spells. You have seen some of them when I first fought you. The powerful wind that I hit you with Zel is called Astral Wind, it calls upon the powers from the Astral Plane, and it not only blows away objects, it also absorbs the power a person gives off, and therefore become stronger. When I was about nineteen, I was in this village, and I found theses other sorcerers dragging this gagged person to a cave and was about to seal him in there, and place a magical seal on it. I being the gullible person I was back then, fought them off, and guess who that gagged man was?"
"Me." Xellos laughed as he sat down at the table fully healed.
"I gotta learn how you do that." Lina muttered. Xellos smiled and a dark glint appeared in his eyes.
"It's simple Lina-chan, all you have to do is to become a Mazuko." Lina snarled, and Khirah leapt at Xellos, and wrapped her hands around his throat.
"Don't even joke about that!" Khirah snarled as she tightened her hand around his throat. "You know Zellas wouldn't like that now would she?" Khirah's gray-laced eyes sparkled with an unearthly light that promised extreme bodily harm, to Xellos' if even mentioned that again. Khirah reached into her belt, and pulled out a sinister dagger. It radiated evil, and the light ran across it like freshly spilled blood. "You know what this dagger is Xellos, and don't think for a moment that I wouldn't hesitate to use it." Khirah held the dagger at Xellos' throat, and a thin trickle of blood ran down Xellos' neck. The Mazuko stared at Khirah mildly, but his face was deadly serious and his eyes were cold.
"Do you mind?" Xellos asked as he looked into Khirah's eyes. Everyone was silent as they watched the two battle wills. Someone clapped, and both Khirah and Xellos looked toward the doorway of the inn. A tall woman with blond hair stood there, with another woman standing behind her.
"Khirah don't threaten Xel-kun." The blond woman chided gently. Khirah backed away from Xellos, and stared at the blond woman transfixed. Xellos hastily stood and bowed at the woman in respect.
"Zellas!" Khirah cried as she ran over and grasped the blond woman's shoulders. Khirah stared into the woman's ancient eyes, and suddenly hugged her. "Zellas." Khirah whispered. "I have missed you." Zellas smiled at Khirah and touched Khirah's face tenderly.
"How are you Khirah?" Zellas asked. Everyone was confused and they stared at the Beast Master, and the partial Chimera.
"What's up with those two? Are they lovers or something?" Gourry asked in his usual tactless way. Lina and Zel tensed and waited for the Mazuko general to exploded. Xellos and Amelia were looking at Gourry as if he had just grown an extra set of arms.
"Been nice knowing you." Zel muttered. Khirah and Zellas looked at Gourry with glittering gray laced violet eyes.
"Lovers?" Zellas murmured, and both she and Khirah snorted with laughter. "Lovers!"
"Huh?" Gourry was completely clueless. "What's up with you two?" The woman standing behind Gourry pushed her way past, Zellas and Khirah and hit Gourry against his thick skull.
"Neechan." Lina whispered as she hid behind Gourry. Luna Inverse looked at her younger sister.
"Lina! Why haven't you come to visit us all these years?" Lina cowered, and ducked her head.
"Sorry Neechan." Lina mumbled. Khirah looked at the woman who had the renowned sorceress Lina Inverse quivering
.
"You must Luna." Khirah smiled, and held out her hand. Luna excepted it.
"Khirah?" The Chimera female nodded her head. "Zellas-chan has told me all about you."
"I hope some of it was good." Khirah smiled as she looked at Zellas.
"What's going on here, who are these people?"
Gourry asked totally clueless. One of Zellas' eyebrows twitched as she looked at Gourry
.
"You must be Gourry." Zellas said a tad bit coolly.
"How'd you guess." Zellas said with feral smile that revealed sharp teeth.
"A lucky guess."
"You are I am assuming Zellas Metallium." Zelgadis asked looking at Zellas, then he turned to Luna. "And you are Lina's older sister Luna Inverse." The two women nodded their heads. Zellas looked at the dagger Khirah still had in her hand.
"Khirah, how did you get that?" Zellas' tone of voice was rather sharp.
"Sore wa himitsu desu?" Khirah said with the smile that only a person who had just been caught doing something they weren't supposed to be doing did.
"Don't get smart with me girl!" Zellas thundered and at that moment, it wasn't very hard to believe that Zellas was the legendary Beast Master, and dark general under Ruby-Eyed Shabrinigdo.
"What's so special about that dagger?" Amelia asked as she cleared her throat and gasped in clean air.
"It's the legendary dagger of L-sama, the Lord of Nightmares. It was bathed in the blood of Shabrinigdo, and it can kill any Mazuko, including a piece of Shabrinigdo himself." Luna said softly.
"Where did you get it Khirah?"
"I found it a long time ago, I figured that if I was every captured by Dynast or even Gaav, I could take my own life, and I wouldn't be turned into a Mazuko."
"Khirah, is there any relation between you and Zellas-sama?" Zelgadis asked. "Because you have the same eyes."
"She is my great aunt, my grandmother was Zellas' sister. That is why we have the same eyes. All the females in my family have lavender eyes with silver streaks in them."
"But that would make you ¼ Mazuko." Zel pointed out.
"Yes, but both my mother and father were ½ Mazuko."
"What's up with your family and Mazuko." Khirah's eyes glinted.
"You never know until you try one." Zel's eyes
widened in shock, and a blush crept across his cheeks. Both Lina and Amelia were clueless, and the joke had gone right over Gourry's head. Zellas and Xellos where laughing, and Luna merely looked at Khirah in disapproval, but she was still smiling slightly.
"And you cal me sick." Xellos chortled, and Khirah smiled innocently.
"Me?" she asked with wide-eyed innocence.
"I don't get it." Amelia said, and Lina just shrugged. This just sent Khirah, Zellas, and Xellos into another laughing fit.
Khirah and Zellas stayed up most of the night talking, and around dawn, the Beast Master and Luna left the inn, and Khirah stared out the window long after the two had disappeared. Zel softly descended the stairs; he had been awakened by the sound of someone softly crying. Zel glanced around the corner, and he saw Khirah siting by the window with tears coursing down her cheeks. Zelgadis was torn with indecision, should he go in there and try to offer her some comfort, or should he just leave her alone. He crept back up the stairs and climbed back into his bed silently cursing himself for being a coward. And as he closed his eyes and tried to will himself to sleep, the image of Khirah crying alone, downstairs seemed to be imprinted upon his brain, and that was the last thing he saw before he drifted into a fitful sleep.
