Wicca/Witchcraft |

1. Is Witchcraft a "cult"?
No! Witchcraft is a recognized religion by the United States Government. A cult is a group of people who follow another person which try's to control their every thought. |
2. Do Witches worship "Satan"? |
No! Witches do not believe in "Satan" or "Hell". These are ideas that entered into the Christian belief from the old testment. No true Witch worships, or even believes in the existence of the devil. The devil is a concept that evoled from old Persian, and Hebrew ledgends and was integrated into Christianity over time. Misunderstanding of the Pagan way of life made our Nature Gods (for instance: Pan) into a caricature called "Satan". Some of this misinformation was perpetuated by 19th and 20th century dabblers who invented a new kind of Witchcraft, not so much based on the Old Religion, as on alchemy and high magick. This gave us Aleister Crowley, Gerald Gardner, Anton LaVey,and even Helena Blavatsky. Black magicians or devil worshippers are not true Witches, whatever they call themselves. They invert the Christian Mass and ridicule it. Since Witches do not believe Christianity, what possible purpose could it serve us to use a perversion of its rituals as a tool? This can be seen through a simple examination of Nature: can you think of one creature that is all good or all evil? Of course not, because one does not exist. We view our Gods as having both good and evil sides, just as we all do. You may be asking, "So why do you refer to your God in rituals as being horned?". One aspect of the God is that he is the God of the hunt, and of the animals of the forest. He has antlers actually, not really horns like a bull. These horns are the way that he has traditionally been portryed (even before the time of Christ), probably because it makes him seem more one with the animals of the forest. In actuality, the Christian devil was never portrayed with horns until after the Crusades, when the knights of the Templar came across a Pagan village where the people were worshipping a God with horns. They gave these horns to "Satans" image because they thought it would make Pagans who worship horned Gods look evil. This lie persists even today. |

3. What is Wicca? |
Witchcraft or Wicca, is a Pagan Earth religion honoring primarily the Goddess and the God figures. They are believed to be the enbodiment or sum of all other Gods worshipped historically. With all male Gods being sibdivions of the God and all female Goddesses being subdivions of the Goddess. In Wicca the God represents the Sun and Earth, while the Goddess represents the Moon and Heavens. Wicca is non-prejudice against other people or religions, and as a general rule, we just wish to co-exist peacefully with everyone else. |
4. Can I be a Witch and just do Magick? |
No. If you are interested in Wicca, then you must realize that it is a religion, and not just a collection of spells. To take on the beliefs of a Witch is to take on all the beliefs. if you are interested soley in the magickal aspect and not the religious, then perhaps you would be better off looking into the path of a magican. |
5. Who runs Witchcraft in the U.S.A.? |
No one! Each Witch is a Priest or Priestess, and has a personal relationship with his/her deities. Witches will gather together in samll groups, usually no more than 12 and a High priest/ess who acts as a sort of Chair Person. Each group, called a Coven or Circle, makes its own rules and cares for its own members. Often those who are most public are considered too opportunistic and commerical by many other Witches. Witchcraft is a personal faith. Witches by and large, believe that one should follow faith and not a leader. |
6. If Witches can maniplute events, why aren't we all rich? |
Magick doesn't work that way. If you truly do the best that you can, work your butt off, and allow the ENERGY to follow, something will happen to enable you to have what you need. You will probably not win the lottery, but if you really did your best, you might be offered overtime, or a part-time job, or someone might pay back a debt. You will be given the opportunity to EARN the money that you NEED. I said NEED, not necessarily WANT, and I said EARN, not BE GIVEN. |
7. Is it necessary to do your rituals in the nude (Skyclad in Witch Tongue)? |
There are those who think one must come before the Gods the way they were created. The Gods and Goddesses are with me always. They recognize me dressed or undress and anything else is pretentious nonsense. Others feel that clothing interfers with their power. If a couple of ounces of fabric interfers with your power, you don't have any. Whether or not to go Skyclad should be a decision between you, your coven, and the weather, and the rules of good taste and public sensibilities. |
8. Do you have Initiation Rituals? |
Sure, usually written for the event by the High Priest/ess as a way of a ceremonial marking for this rite of passage. Can you be a Witch without it? Certainly. By the time you are to be accepted into membership in a Coven the hard lessons have been learned and the process of Initiation should be a time of joy and fellowship, not physical fear and apprehension. Solitary Witches can self-initiate or dedicate. |
9. How do the degress in Witchcraft work? |
In my religion there are no degrees. My faith is absed on harmony of the simple folk, harmony with the universe, a respect for nature and all life, a oneness with the world. Degrees are elements introduced into the Craft very recently, 19th and 20th century additions, generally stuck in by the dabblers previously mentioned. The Old Religion had no degrees, they are more pretentious nonsense. |
10. Can Witches disappear? |
Witches cannot cast a spell in one second like "Bewitched" or in cartoons. It takes Witches lots of time and concentration to cast a spell, and I can assure you that no matter how hard they try, they can't make a person disappear or reappear or turn someone into a frog. These are common television misconceptions that should be ignored or treated as a joke not truth! |
11. Do Witches perform ritual sacrafices? |
No! Witches donnot use sacrafices, they do not believe in harming any living creature for any reason. |
12. Do Witches really ride on Brooms? |
The Broom is a symbol used to promote fertitlity in the harvest and was often used in ceremonies to coax grain to grow. The thought that Witches flew Broomsticks actuually originated from the misconception of Christian's back in the old days. Pagans back in the old days believed that if they held a broom under them almost like they were flying them, and if they ran around their corn fields jumping, the higher they jumped the higher the corn plants would grow. When Christians saw this going on they thought that they were actually trying to fly the Broom and thats how this myth was started. |
13. Are Witches evil? |
No! Witches folow the Wiccan Rede which fulfills these eight words: "If it harms none, do what ye will", which basically means do whatever you want as long as it harms none, including yourself. |
14. Is Witchcraft really a religion? |
Yes! Made leagl in England in 1967 through the work of Gerald Gardner, and soon after (September of 1986) it was officially recognized as a legal religion in the U.S.A. Witchcraft is a nature religion, not unlike the American Indian religion, Witchcraft percieve deity as male and female-God and Goddess. The Goddess is Mother Nature and Mother Earth, and is represented by the Moon. The God is the son and husband of the Goddess and is represented by the Sun and is the food, grain, and hunt (because prehistoric animals had antlers, thats why the God has antlers, NOT because the God was "Satan", and this thought by Christian was the death toll for millions of innocent people!). |
15. What are males who practices Wicca called? |
A male, contrary to popular belief, is simply called a Witch. A Witch is a Witch is a Witch. The word warlock comes from the burning times and means "oath breaker" or "traitor". (It is a Scottish term.) Therefore it is an insult to call a Witch a warlock. |
16. Are Witches ugly? |
Since Christians made Witches out to be evil, or defamatory to Christian religion, most people took Witches as evil and televisions and other publications made Witches out to be evil. The television shows that kids watch have green faced Witches (like in the "Wizard of Oz") only because thats how they made Witches out to be evil, nothing factual, they just tried to make the Witches look evil like the Christians tried to make them out as. |
17. What is the Three-Fold Law? |
If you do something, be it good or bad, it comes back three times over, so there is no reason or want to do evil (if you want to do evil, think about the fact that it'll come back three times more powerful then when you sent it out). This law keeps even a very powerful Witch from sending harm to his/her eneimes. Should he/she do harm, it WILL return to him/her three fold, perhaps not exactly as he/she did it, but he/she will pay. Conversely if you genuinely do good, without thought of benefit to yourself, then goodness will come into your life in like measure. For really meanspirited folks who seem to breeze through life selfishly and seem never to hit a bump, their bumps may not show on the outside, or they may truly not hit them in this lifetime, but make no mistake, they will pay in this lifetime or another. |
18. What is the difference between a penticle and a pentagram? |
A pentagram is simply a five point star (example: there are fifty pentagrams on the American Flag). A penticale, on the other hand, is a five pointed star, turned upwards and surrounded by a circle. A penticale is generally accepted as the Wiccan symbol, much like the Christians wear crosses to represent their religion. The symbolism behind the penticale is as follows: The five points represent the five elements - Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit (Spirit = the Gods). The circle binding them represents protection, and infinity, or the Wheel of the Year and the Spiral of Life. |
19. Can Witches cast spells? |
Witches do not cast spells to cause harm to any living being. Witches believe in the Three-Fold Law. But yes we can cast spells. So can non-Witches. A spell is a form of prayer. The edge Witches have is that we are taught how to cast spells (or prayers) in ways that are more likely to be effective. We learn how to invest ENERGY (there's that basic element again) into our spells. We have learned over the centuries how best to use that ENERGY to carry out our wishes. We learn how to plan spells during astrologically beneficial times and to use herbs, oils, resins, candles, and colors that are sympathetic to our aims... harmony you see. We learn how to concentrate our own ENERGY and that of the universe, and focus it to do our bidding. We also have learned responsibility so that we do not do spells frivolously or manipulatively, but with harm to none. All creatures have a destiny which can be forged and made into what they want it to be. One method of doing this is through magick (the extra K is to differentiate between real magick and the tricks that stage magcians do). However, do to the beliefs and rules of the Wiccan community, there are somethings we WON'T do. No true Witch would ever intenionally harm another via magick or try to control them. This should eliminate the fear of a Witch putting a curse on you. As a whole, we practice magick as a way of bettering the lives of ourselves and those of others. |
