Chapter 1: Rediscovery
Jezza Antilles sighed. It was another dry, hot day on Corellia. Bored out of her mind (again), she was sitting outside on the front porch in the shortest, skimpiest outfit she could find. Which wasn't hard, considering the fact that those were all the rage this season and that was all her mother would let her wear. (Though she did, on occasion, manage to slip innto her Jedi Robes.)
Fingering the grooves of her lightsaber, which she never left behind, Jezza could feel a presence behind her. "Go away," she said, not turning around.
Camun Sal looked down on his daughter with concern. "Jezza, I..."
"Just want to spend some time with me, is that right?" Jezza snapped, losing what little Jedi control she had. Standing and taking a step off the porch, she said,"You gave me up, remember? You can't just claim back those 18 years you lost." Before Camun could respond, Jezza bounded down the steps to a beat up old speeder she'd bought herself. Which, again, her parents wanted her to get a new, instyle one, but Jezza needed something to work on.
Hopping in, she gave it an extra burst of speed for flair. Never one to wait to be told what to do, she sped out of the estate and not looking back.
Camun sighed. Jezza never would listen to him or Malrun. It was all the fault of Wedge Antilles, never being there to give discipline. Ah well, he thought. She'll be back tonight and then we can talk.
Josha Tiny'ri wandered the streets of Corellia, gazing around at the different shops. And wishing he could go into one of them. He reached into his pockets, feeling only a couple coins in them. Sighing, he walked down the street, watching his feet. And then someone else's feet, right as he bumped into them.
"Sorry," a female voice came from on the ground.
"No, it's my fault. Really." Josha reached down to help the girl up, yet didn't let go of her hand. Her face was strangly familiar.
"Ahh... I'm actually fine, you know," she said, pulling her hand away.
"You look... familiar," Josha half murmured, studying her intense blue eyes.
"We're all familiar to someone," the girl retorted, reaching a hand up to fix her thick blonde braid.
"Jezza..." Josha said, recalling her name.
"Huh? How... do you know my name?" She turned to face Josha, studying him a bit more.
"Yeah... thought it was you. Um... I saved you... from the gang of theives... when you ran away..."
"Three weeks ago!" Jezza finished for him. "I... I never got your name."
"Josha Tiny'ri," he said, smiling.
"Thank you for what you did for me..." She laughed a little and sighed. "I was a mess."
"You healed nicely," Josha said.
"Oh... in a bacta tank for half a day... so... um. How are you?"
"Um, well... I'm broke." Josha stated.
"That's a problem. How about I treat you to lunch?" Jezza offered.
"No, I couldn't..."
"I insist." Jezza grinned, patting her pocket. "Please?"
Josha laughed, offering his arm which she graciously took. "How can I resist?" he asked as the two of them headed to the nearest cafe.
Kaiyra Sal sat up as she heard the door open, wondering if it would be her sister. This was an exceptionaly long time for the girl to be gone. Not that she really blamed her; both Kaiyra and Jezza resented their parents for abandoning them when they were young. But Jezza moreso than her. Kaiyra stuck her nose back into the book she was reading as she saw it was only her mother coming in.
"Kaiyra, has your sister been back?" Malrun asked her blonde daughter for the 6th time that hour.
"Nope."
"Oooo... where could that girl be!" Malrun yelled, loosing her usually calm demenor. Kaiyra smiled to herself. Malrun almost never lost the calm demeanor she had, and was enjoying watching Jezza do that to her.
Just then, the door opened again and Jezza came in, laughing and smiling for the first time Kaiyra had seen before she'd been forced to move to Corellia. The reason for it soon came following her older sister.
The boy, well, man, rather, was very handsome. About 5'9, with sandy-brown hair and brown eyes, a big smile and in shape, Kaiyra wondered where Jezza managed to snag him - and if he had a little brother.
Jezza stopped to wave to her sister, then led the man back towards the bedrooms. "C'mon... back this way..." she said to him. That was enough to set Malrun off.
"What?! Jezza, who is this man?!" Malrun demanded.
"A friend, he's staying here tonight," Jezza said casually.
"Whoo... go sis!" Kaiyra yelled. Jezza shot her a stern look.
"In a guest room." Through a psychic link the sisters shared, Jezza thought, though I wouldn't mind having him stay in my room...
That left Kaiyra giggling as Jezza led Josha to the guest room. "How's this?" she asked him, showing off the plush bedding and carpeting.
"Not too bad... listen, Jez, thanks for all this. I appreciate it."
Jezza grinned. "My pleasure. If you need anything, I'm down the hall."
"Alright," Josha replied. He stood in the doorway, watching her retreating form. Smiling, Josha thought about what luck he had running into her...
Jezza smiled to herself as she crawled into bed. The day hadn't turned out to be too bad after all.br>
Streatching, Jezza set her chrono for 1 in the morning. She had some buisness to take care of...
The chrono went off at the apointed time, and Jezza sat up with a start. Rubbing her bleary eyes, she took a moment to get her barings straight...
Running barefoot, it took Jezza only a moment to reach the communications room. The message was already coming in, static crackling.
"Starlen...?" Jezza asked.
"Here, Jez. You ready?" The holograph of Starlen Mitchhel came up on the screen.
"As ready as I'll ever be... I'm ready to leave this place for good."
Josha tossed on his too soft bed another time, trying to get to sleep. It was no use, this place wasn't his style. He sat up, swung his legs over the side, and stood. Josha decided it was time to get some fresh air.
Sticking his head out, Josha tiptoed down the hall, trying not to wake anyone. As soon as he was sure that everyone was fast asleep, Josha casually walked the halls. A noise from the communications room alerted him. He snuck up to it, trying to find out if it was an intruder...
"Ahhh!" Jezza screamed as Josha grabbed her arm. She spun around, her hand on her lightsaber.
"I thought you Jedi could sense people behind you," Josha said.
"Shh!"
"Oops... sorry..."
"We can... when we're not focused on other matters," Jezza whispered. Then, as if he wasn't there, Jezza turned back to the hologram infront of her. "Meet me in 30 minutes, I need to pack a few things."
The person nodded, then disconnected the transmition. Jezza turned around and walked back to her room, Josha hot on her heals.
"Pick you up? Jez, what's going on?" Josha whispered to her.
"I'm leaving. I can't stand it here anymore," was the quiet reply.
"Leaving!?"
"Shhh! Yes." Jezza made it to her room, and packed a couple things in a small duffle. Her Jedi robes were the first things to go, then some spare clothing, a blaster which had been hidden for a while under her bed, a ton of credit vouchers and other small, sentimental tokens.
"Jez, do me a favor, will you?" Josha asked.
"What is it?"
"Take me with you." Jezza turned around and looked him in the eyes.
"I... okay, you can come. Now quiet, we must make our way out the back and quick."
The next morning, Kaiyra got up unusually early. Wondering what she should do today, maybe get her sister to come do something with her gave Kaiyra a little boost of energy. She ran down the hall to her sisters room and swung open the door.
"Hey Jezz..." Kaiyra started before she noticed something. The bed was empty, and the few things Jezza had out were gone. "No..." Kaiyra whispered. "You... left..."
