|
It is in this chapter that Taketo Iwase first met Salsa (dog) face to face. Taketo was on his way to school when he had the feeling that someone was staring at him. But when he turned around, he saw a stray dog (Salsa) demanding for food on the street instead. Full of compassion, he offered the hungry dog some of his lunch. But mischievous Salsa, grabbed the whole lunchbox from Taketo's hands. Dismayed, he went on to school. | |
Back
home, when Taketo turned on the television, he saw on the news that his
policeman brother, who was currently on a robbery case, lost his gun in
an intense chase after the robber and was admitted to the hospital.
Worried, he immediately rushed to the mentioned hospital, leaving his
half prepared dinner on the kitchen table.
Meanwhile at the hospital, Toshifumi Iwase, (Taketo's brother, who is my second favourite character after Salsa) was eager to get back on his feet to get back on the case but the doctors were fully against it as he suffered a hair line facture on his calf leg. Before any further argument arise, Toshifumi's partner armed forces the nurses and doctors dragged an unwilling and struggling Toshifumi back into his room. He then filled Taketo in with the details when he arrived at the hospital shortly after. After listening, Taketo wished he could help his brother get back his gun. When Taketo opened the door of their apartment, he found his dinner missing from the kitchen table, and the previous stray dog lying lazily with a full stomach on the floor. Angry, Taketo swung the mop, which he had taken in his hands a while ago, at Salsa. He missed! The dog jumped on to the cupboard swiftly and very much to Taketo's astonishment, the dog started to speak. It turned out that the stray dog, Salsa, was the well known mysterious detective who could solve any case -- "WildHalf" (which stands for a a special kind of unknown animals known as 'Wildhalfs') At first, Taketo was unwilling to work with this unfamiliar strange dog, but he was desperate. So off they went, picking up traces the robber left behind with Salsa's extremely sensitive nose which could smell human's feelings. Not only that, Taketo soon found out that Salsa could do things that seems impossible, like running faster than a car, and jumping easily over three metres high walls. Soon the clues led them to an elongated mansion. It was dark and the mansion appeared vacant. But Salsa was sure that the robber was there. When they crept inside, they saw a blind folded old lady, apparently the rich owner of the mansion, with her hands tied behind her back and... the robber standing before her holding Toshifumi's gun!! Things got a little out of hands, when Taketo rushed from his hiding place to save the old lady at the gun point. Now Taketo became his hostage too... At the nick of time, Salsa saved him from a possible gunshot and had the robber knocked out of his air. That moment, Taketo once again saw Salsa as a human, but at the blink of the eye, Salsa was a dog again. He then paged his brother on Salsa's behalf, leaving the name "WildHalf" as the caller. When Toshifumi received the call, he immediately rushed to the scene. After arresting the robber, he wanted even more to uncover the mysterious caller -- "WildHalf". Meanwhile, Taketo asked if Salsa wanted to come to his house, that way he won't need to beg for food anymore, since he was now the saver of both he and his brother. He continued by saying that sometimes he saw Salsa as human. The last sentence caught Salsa. The dog paused and said that those words were what his first and only owner had said before. He had scent the same smell of feelings in Taketo just as his former owner... |
Yet, Salsa refused Taketo's offer and rushed off and didn't appear in the streets again. Until one day, Taketo found the dog waiting for him at the front door of his apartment... |
