Part 6 ~ The Gentle Past
Taking Salsa to the beach on his new moterbike, Taketo was told about Salsa's first owner -- Mitsuki.

Taketo had just used his savings to buy a motorbike and took Salsa for a stroll on the beach with it. Seeing Salsa happily playing with the water and crabs, Taketo said that Salsa looked like any ordinary dog, no one would thought that he could talk and change.

Salsa looked at him then said that he was strange too, most people normally treated him as a monster, bad omen, devil... it had always been like that. Taketo and his past owner were the only ones who had treated him as an ordinary dog. Taketo then wanted to know about his first owner.

Salsa said his very first memory was in the rain and he, still a pup, was whining on the field. The first one who picked him up was a young girl. She warmed him and fed him milk. All young Salsa wanted was to thank her, but he never expected the reaction she had when he spoke out the words. The girls screamed calling him a monster throwing things at him.

The following others who picked him up did the very same thing. One day while he was being bullied by small kid, a man saved him. But with all his experience, Salsa learned not to trust humans anymore. He bit the man's hands, but the man did not push him away, instead he gently smiled back and called Salsa not to be afraid and that he would heal his wounds. That's when Salsa smelled his scent -- a very nice scent.

That was when he first met Mitsuki Katsuragi. The scent he had smell was the scent from the heart, that's also when his sensing abilities awake. Young Salsa wanted him as an owner forever since he had never smell a person with such a good scent. So he didn't talk fearing that Mitsuki wouldn't want him if he started speaking.

They lived happily together. Mitsuki likes to collect plants so he usually brought Salsa into the deep jungles searching for them. On a trip, they had to cross a long almost rotten wooden bridge. Salsa tried to stop him by pulling at Mitsuki's trousers. But he interpreted it wrongly thinking that Salsa was afraid. He picked him up and started walking, sure enough, the bridge's rope snapped and the whole thing collapse.

Mitsuki fell down below and broke his leg and there they waited for someone to rescue them. Mitsuki even shared the tiny amount of food left with Salsa. But the place was too remote and no one passed by. It began to rain. Mitsuki worried about Salsa being cold put him in his jacket and hug him closed. Salsa knows that he was already too weak.

"It's so nice to have you here... it's so warm..." With that, Miysuki fainted. He wouldn't wake up even when Salsa started yelling in human language. His desperation of trying to save his owner enabled Salsa to change into human form (his first transformation).

He carried Mitsuki and started climbing up the valley. But he ended up on the other side of the bridge. He had to jump to the other end to return to the place the came from. But... Salsa looked down... the gap seem too big for an ordinary person to even jump over. That's when Mitsuki mumbled, " Salsa, never mind me, put me down, you should be able to jump over it yourself."

With his mind made up, Salsa took his leap, still carrying Mitsuki on his back. They reached it narrowly at the verge of the other side of the valley. Mitsuki was brought to the hospital. And Salsa didn't dare to go see him. Mitsuki awaked and caught glimpse of Salsa walking away from his window, he rushed out. "Salsa! Where are you?! Come out!" Mitsuki shouted.

{No, if I come out, you'll know that I'm a monster. I can't stay here any more... goodbye.} Salsa hid behind a tree.

"Stupid! I've always treated you as a human!! So to be able to talk to you this way... I'm... really very happy."

Salsa was so touched by Mitsuki's words that he came out from behind the tree crying.

... ...

Salsa paused awhile at this point of his story. He then told Taketo that after Mitsuki died, he started becoming a detective. Mitsuki had once said that he had a wonderful ability and if used wisely, he could make a lot of people happy, just as Salsa had helped him. Though Taketo wondered why Mitsuki died, he was sure that Salsa would tell him when the time was right.

The two then return. It was time for 'WildHalf' to meet with today's client. Taketo followed along. But at the park, Salsa's expression changed. He had sensed a murderous hatred, a feeling so strong that it could even be smell far away. He was the client.

{It can't be... but he's supposed to be dead! Three ago... the man who killed Mitsuki!!!}
