Dark Goddezz v 1.1

http://geocities.datacellar.net/chibitori2190

Sailor Ice brings us Dark Goddezz, a general Sailormoon fan site that is currently running a Sailor Saturn motif. The site is simple, nice to look through, and it shows promise for growth in the future.

The index page sets the tone for the rest of the page, a pale-purple-white background with dark purple lining and text. There is a nice picture of Sailor Saturn on the left side of the index page. The index page scrolls off the bottom of the screen, and with a small edit, it can be made to fit in the screen, which would be more attractive.

Right now, the page is pretty sparse, so developing new content should be a priority. Content needs to be added into areas that are shown to be completed. For instance, not all of the profiles have been done. The site stuff and webmistress information is also not complete.

The picture gallery is small, but nice. The pictures are high-quality manga pics that have been scanned in from various art books.

The one thing that bothers me is the blurb at the top of the episode list that states: "Learn the episodes of Sailor Moon it japanese. Sorry, but I don't like the English dubbed, so i'm only putting japanese. Vist somwhere like Bunnys Hideaway for English titles."

The problem with this is that it is not very user-friendly on a couple of levels. First, the first sentence can sound like a command. Hey folks, I don't like the dub, so LEARN JAPANESE! Then we get an explanation for the first sentence, which again is user unfriendly. Then comes an invite to visit another site to get the English titles.

Ok, let's tackle this one at a time...

1): Don't TELL people what to do. I realize that the sentence "Learn the episodes of Sailor Moon it japanese" was meant as an invitation, but some people could take it as a condescending order, and some people come to your site to get information about the episodes. Since over 75% of the Sailor Moon fan base is American, a lot of those people will come to the episode list, see a bunch of japanese, perhaps know nothing about the exact episode order, get confused about the Japanese, and leave your site.

2): "Sorry, but I don't like the English dubbed, so i'm only putting japanese." Why not make your information even more attractive by using BOTH the Japanese *AND* the English episode titles? You can put the Japanese ones in bigger point size, or bold, italic, or some other font, and put the English ones slightly smaller and of less importance. The idea here is not to compromise your likes and dislikes. You already have made your preferences plain when you enter the info area, but the idea behind your site should be to bring people to your site and keep them there for some length of time. The exclusion of English info gives people an excuse to leave.

3): The same thing applies to the last sentence... "Vist somwhere like Bunnys Hideaway for English titles." Thank you. Bunny also has the Japanese titles, so I will visit her page, and not bookmark yours. This is not the reaction you want people to have. Again, you don't want to give users an excuse to leave your page, and you certainly don't want to send them to another site yourself.

Perhaps the best way to solve this particular problem is to put the English info in your information, then write a really good editorial article about your dislike of the dub. There has been a ton of such articles, but it's something that you can link to over and over. The fans can ignore the link if they want, and still get the information they might be looking for on YOUR site.

Overall, Dark Goddezz is a nice looking site that can easily grow into a popular place.
