Violence and rage are the name of the movie, and as is typical a sweet love story is interwoven in the plot. But don’t get me wrong, I loved the movie, mainly due to the fantastic casting and perfect songs. Aamir Khan plays Siddharth , a Mumbai tapori (again!) and a boxing champion. His bother, Jai is part of a dadda’s gang. His father (Dalip Tahil), and ex-freedom fighter leaves a heavy impression on Siddharth, and when he meets someone like him, Hari, he respects his ambitions. On the other side, he meets Alicia (Rani Mukerjee ), who incidentally is the sister of Hari (though Siddharth doesn’t know this).
As story of corruption, gangs, over-powerment, justice and etc etc follows, with the good guys winning as they always due. But a spark is added to this movie, via a dazzling heroine, Rani and a great hero, Aamir, both of whom have done suberb acting, as well as a fabulous soundtrack and great comedy/excitement via bikey gang whom Alicia rides with. The leader of which is Deepak Tijori.
For once the songs in this movie do not hinder the plot, but slot in nicely to lightly entertain the audience, Aati kya khandala was offcourse a big hit, but Jaadu hai tera jadu, which is strangely similar to Pehla Nasha from Jo Jeeta Woh Sikandar and also Aankhon se tune kya are pretty good too .
Rani ofocurse needless to say is brilliant once again brillian in the movie, and one her best sceens is when she screams her head off, as she sees Siddhart climbing up her building to meet her. People with sensitive hearing be warned, block your ears, her screams are extremely piercing and totally convincing.
The only thing lacking in the movie is direction, a better director and perhaps a less gory plot ( I estimate a third of the plot to be senseless violence - ironically the only fight imperative to the story is over in about 30 seconds with the bad guys winning). However if you don’t want to watch the movie and form your own opinion, you must buy the soundtrack, this is up there with the likes of Rangeela and DDLJ.
