The Yokohama Skyline, MM21

Yokohama is a very modern city.  In 1988, the city of Yokohama set out on an ambitious plan called Minato Mirai 21, or MM21.  Translated into English it the phrase means, "port plan of the future."  From this a well developed downtown area is being developed.  Where these buildings stand now used to be unloading docks, warehouses, and water in 1988.  They have since built all of these and more have been and will be constructed since I left.

The whole area itself is like a city within a city.  There are a number of restaurants along one road.  Located within the base of a couple of the buildings are modern malls (very impressive!).  There is also a subway line running underneath them with one of the stops within the building itself.  Underneath this yet are underground parking garages.  The Japanese are ingenious at hiding these.  It is a very impressive undertaking.
