Chanchaka Charmy 4.15.2004

Rika likes pink, so I made the background pink. I listened to Rika Ishikawa's radio show, Chanchaka Charmy from 4.15.2004. They spent the first few minutes again making fun of Rika's pronunciation. The previous week, when playing a Spitz song, she put too much accent on the "SU" when she should have just pronounced it as if it were an "S". So instead of the correct Japanese pronunciation "Spittsu", Rika's pronunciation was "SUpittsu." Her staff, listeners and even her mother pointed out that she pronounced it incorrectly. But that's part of her charm. She says she has relaxed now that she is in her 3rd week. This week's theme is "what kind of girl's hairstyle do you like?"

Rika later talked about how their work ended early so she arranged to have fun with Tsuji and Makoto. Rika's work ended first, so she went home and waited but she couldn't reach them. So she decided to call Tsuji's dad. She asked her manager for Tsuji's dad's number and called him and asked where she was. Tsuji's dad said she's probably taking purikura with Makoto in a place cell phones don't work. Rika was upset that they didn't try to contact her, so she found out where they were and went there and was a bit afraid to, but just peeked into all the booths looking for them. Tsuji and Makoto appeared behind her and scared her and asked "Why are you here?" Rika replied "What do you mean why? I can't reach your cell phone!" So Tsuji said "oh" and that was the end of it. They took their first 3-person purikura and then went out to eat and have fun. Then she plays Beyonce's "Crazy in Love" but gives a little explanation on the signifigance of the song. When they have dance lessons, their teacher plays it while they stretch. Rika liked the song and thought about buying it, but didn't know what it was called or who sang it. so she went to a CD store and it happened to be playing. She asked the employee "who is this?" The employee said it was "Crazy in Love" by Beyonce. Then Rika asked where the CD was and the employee took her there and said "here is Beyonce's album, and here is a compilation with her and other artists." Rika didn't understand, so she bought both. She listens to it before concerts to raise their tension.

Next is the "Get Mad Charmy!" segment. Viewers tell her things that happened to her and want Rika to give an angry reaction. A listener sends in "Scold me! I got bad grades, but I haven't shown them to my parents for 3 months. Rather than show them to my parents, please scold me!" Rika replies "Show 'em to your parents!" The next funny one was a listener who was waiting in line to get on the train when a pair of old ladies cut in front and got on first. The listener thinks that there's no point to lining up, and asks Rika to get angry. She tried "You shameless bastards!" Rika says she couldn't have said that to their faces, but she is able to get angry [where she is], and hopes the listener feels refreshed.

The following segment is Rika trying to decide on an ending for her show. She thanks the people who suggested "Guccha!", which hadn't been used for a year, but said "[Chanchaka Charmy] is a show that the listeners and I are creating from scratch." Another listener suggests she use her mistake from the first week as her permanent ending "I am-WAS your host Rika Ishikawa" instead of "I was your host Rika Ishikawa" but Rika said she doesn't want to, and there must be better suggestions out there. She thinks the next suggestion is cute, "I was your host, Rika Ishikawa, I hope it's sunny again today!" The following suggestion is "I was your host, Rika Ishikawa, good bye cha." The next suggestion seems close to Miki's ending. Miki's ending is "oyasu-Mikitty", changing the end of "good night" by adding her nickname. The suggestion for Rika's is "Yukkuri, onemu-Rika-chan," again adding a nickname to the end of another way of saying "good night." Rika says she would be embarrassed to use this. The next suggestion is "oya-charmy". She says the drawing sent along with it is nice. Next is "ashita mo ganba-Charmy!" again, adding nicknames the end of "let's do our best tomorrow too!" The following suggestion ends with "a-Rika-tou!" The last worth mentioning is "Mata raishubiduba!" Adding the sound from Tampopo I think it was to "see you next week." She decides on "Oya-charmy!" as her new ending.

Next, Rika plays Tampopo's "Baby Cry", saying she likes the song a lot and its rock feeling. Then she gets to the topic asked earlier in the show, "what type of girl's hairstyle do you like?" The first response is "I like dark hair with bangs. Rika, do you do your own hair or does your stylist decide for you?" Rika says sometimes she lets her stylist decide, but there are plenty of times she decides too. Rika says she likes bangs, and tries various things with her hair to match their songs and outfits. The next listener says "I like it when girls who don't typically show their foreheads do occasionally." Rika says sometimes she doesn't normally show her forehead, and that during concerts they sweat a lot and her bangs get stuck to her forehead. Rika says sometimes Miki or Kaori will tell her her bangs are acting weird, and says she will continue to show her forehead occasionally. The following message says "Rika, I liked it more when your hair was brown. Why did you dye it black?" Rika says when she started, it was black, but to try and be more cheerful, she dyed it. But now that she is 19 and trying to look like an adult, she thinks an adult woman should have black hair. But she also thinks now that she's dyed it back, it makes her look childish sometimes, and that she'll stick with the black hair for awhile, so please like it.

This is followed by a listener request for the song "dance dance suru no da", who says this song gave him hope when he was taking his high school entrance exams and he was able to pass. After the song, she reads mail from a listener who says "Rika, you said you and Tsuji and Makoto were a friendly konbi. But a konbi is 2, 3 is a trio." [I didn't know there was a rule about this.] Another listener says Rika said "ano" [as in "umm"] 107 times in her show. Rika said she will try and do it less.
