Chapter 6

A week into her vacation, Videl started to feel bored. She shouldn't have taken a month long leave, she thought as she fixed breakfast for herself and her father.

"Dad! Breakfast is reday!" she called out.

"Be right there Videl," Mr. Satan answered.

A few minutes later, Videl and her father sat at the breakfast table, Videl with her coffee and morning paper, thinking about what she's going to do today.

"Ummm...Videl? Are you done with the paper?" Mr. Satan could  see that Videl was staring somewhere, but not reading the paper.

"Hmm...? Oh yeah. Sure," Videl handed the paper to her father.

"You're bored aren't you," Mr. Satan said. "Why don't you go out, meet some people?" he suggested.

Videl knew what he was getting at. She sighed. She did go out and try to meet some men but none held any interest for her. So she gave up and spent her nights at home or working out in the gym instead.

"Why don't you, Dad?" she asked. She sometimes felt that her father needed someone. Oh, she could take care of him all right, but he needed a companion, not  a caretaker.

"I'm too old for that," Mr. Satan answered. "Besides, who'd have me?" he murmured to himself  as he looked down at his paralyzed legs.

He said it very quietly, but it didn't escape Videl. Now she felt bad about bringing up the subject. She decided to go for a walk in the city today. Not that there is any attraction in the Western Capitol. Like the rest of the world, most parts of it was still under reconstruction. And after Bulma's death, many of the rebuilding projects were abandoned. As Videl walked by, some children approached her and begged for money. She gave them a few zenis and continued her walk. Indeed, there were many people who were made homeless, maimed and orphaned by the cyborgs' destruction. There aren't enough orphanages or homes to house them, so they were forced to live on the streets, begging and stealing and doing odd jobs to make ends meet. Those were the ones who still had the will to live. Some had given up hope and just sat around, literally waiting for death.

Such as the case of one middle aged lady, living alone in the Eastern District. She had lost everyone she loved and she was tired. Tired of living. ChiChi had stopped caring for herself after Gohan died. Her body was rail thin, as she sometimes went for days without eating. she would just sit there in the house staring at an old photograph taken years ago when Gohan was still a charming, innocent little boy and Goku was still alive. Now they were all dead and there was no point for her to go on. There was a robot with the Capsule Corporation logo on it in the house. It's task was to monitor ChiChi, to make sure she had enough nutrition and other basic needs. ChiChi hardly paid any attention to it. She probably never realized t was even there. She showed little, if any reaction to anything that happened around her, not even when Bulma and Trunks showed up one day saying something about the cyborgs being gone now, that Gohan was finally avenged. Ah, but that would not bring him back, would it? What happened in the past can't be changed. And so, even though she was still breathing, ChiChi had stopped living. There was nothing to live for.
