episode guide and commentary

Real World 12: Las Vegas
Episode 1: We start out with an introduction of this year's 7 luckiest people in America. Trishelle, the seemingly innocent girl from the South, echoes loudly of Julie from season 1. I immediately like her off the bat. To be continued... Steven--looks like Kyle from season 11's counterpart. Twins separated at birth? Nah, but the similarities are striking. Doesn't seem to have much of a personality and obviously plays up to the camera. Alton seems to be a very nice guy; in fact, too nice. I predict an all-consuming scandal in the near future... Echoes of Theo from season 11 after he calmed down midway through. Arissa/Irulan--can you tell who is who? I haven't figured it out yet. Both are cool in my book; however, do I see in the future these two girls stirring up trouble like Nicole and Coral from season 10? Perhaps, but they're all good for now. Frank, Frank, hmm, interesting fellow. All American boy from small-town, nowhere? He plays it off good, but I think there's more to him than he's letting on. Brynn, egad, what can I say. She's definitely gone! I bet she won't last halfway through the season before she gets kicked out for something. Just like an aerosol can under pressure, it's going to go off soon...and BIG!! And there you have the Las Vegas 7. Overall a likable cast, seems to get alone good, potential for drama. Hopefully not as much as season 10 delivered, but about as much as season 8. This one's been compared to be even more drama than Hawaii though...we'll see...
OK, so we open with the chillen's meeting up at Las Vegas' swanky Palms hotel and casino. Great house, very cool. Can we ever get a full look at any of the houses though? We never get a good shot of the whole place to know what it really looks like. Everyone's getting along good, Frank has a thing for Trishelle and she's somewhat responsive. They party, drink, kiss, and then... THE FIGHTING BEGINS!! Trishelle and Steven get all up on each other in front of poor Frank. It's on! There is absolutely no need whatsoever for them to do that in front of him. It's very clear from the beginning among the three guys that Frank likes Trishelle. What does Steven do? Make out with her in front of him! Not cool!!! Confessional time...but wait! Let's intrude on his confessional and make out in front of him there, too! Poor Frank, my heart goes out to the poor guy, and my view on Trishelle? CHANGED! Definitely NOT sweet Julie from season 1 but instead a terrible whore that hurts anyone in her way! Playa playa, who dis? The female David from season 9? Maybe...and this is only episode 1! Wait until next week. Well, we pretty much wrap up after much partying with this semi-fight. Drama to be continued...

Episode 2: Alton is talking to his ex-girlfriend Melissa on the phone. Guess what? Remember in the previews about someone being pregnant? Well, it's not a roomie, but instead Alton's ex might be pregnant. Hmm, though I'll have to check the preview again because I thought I saw an EPT test on that, but one wasn't in this episode. Could this happen to one of the females this season (probably Trishelle, that whore)? We'll see. Well, Alton really knows that he is not ready at all for this type of life-altering event and stresses about it the whole episode. Meanwhile, the roomies don't really comfort him that much because they're too busy getting their freak on in the "hot tub" (seriously, can you call THAT a hot tub?). Brynn has no problem hooking up with a girl, especially one of her roomies, and she states that she knows she can get with at least one of them. Irulan and Arissa (still can't figure out who's who) are chilling together and kind of staying separate from the rest of the house except when taking pictures of people kertanging. Brynn makes the move on Trishelle and kisses her at a club. Steven thinks that bisexual woman are cool and he likes that a lot, so he's all for it when they get in the hot tub. The ghastly trio make out and feel up and everything else while Frank and company gaze on in disbelief and disgust. Trishelle and Steven move it to the bedroom where Trishelle confides that she is really an innocent girl, and she's just becoming a different person in Vegas. Frank believes that her being drunk is the cause of her behavior and Irulan/Arissa agree. Trishelle tells her sister about her sleeping with Steven and Brynn (sleeping with how? they were just shown sleeping in the same bed, but who knows what really went on), and she is shocked. Trishelle wants her to tell her father so she doesn't have to. He calls back and tells her not to embarrass and bring shame to the family. She tells Brynn that she wishes her father loved her as much as she loves him. Oh yeah, and Alton's ex calls and tells him she started her period, so no baby mama drama for the time being. For such an important event, it didn't get much air time. Ah well, and that's episode 2 for ya.

Episode 3: Fun, good times! We start off the episode with the roomies getting their job assignment. What could be more fun than living in Vegas you might ask? How's about working there? The roomies do a small interview with two of the managers of the in-hotel club Rain in the Desert; several feel the need to show off by performing unnecessary and bad dance routines, cartwheels, and an assortment of flips. Brynn feels like she might not have much to offer because all she wants to do is dance. They find out they're going to be working in Rain throwing parties. Everyone's psyched about their job because pretty much everyone is a party animal. Brynn doesn't feel like doing a job where there are no set times (IE-9-5 mon-fri). She thinks she's more of a partier than a party thrower. Again, all she wants to do is shake her groove thang! This week's episode doesn't focus on America's favorite whore, Trishelle, but instead on Frank, Irulan, Arissa, and Brynn. Uh oh, trouble's a foot when Arissa develops a bit of a crush on Steven (yep, I've got it figured out now! Irulan's got her nose pierced and Arissa doesn't!). She doesn't want to hook up because she wants to remain faithful to her boyfriend back home, Dario (the masculine form of Daria?). She tells Frank about her plight, and he relates it to Irulan; however, she has the impression that Arissa slept with Steven! Arissa is furious when she finds out that Irulan thought that Frank said that she slept with him! Drama, drama! Frank says his apologies and such so as to keep the peace. He confesses to Steven that he just goes along with the girls so that there is no fighting. Might not work by the next episode so the previews show... In the end, the roomies pull off their fashion show at Rain and are pleased with their work. Brynn wears this hideous wig/hair extension/gerry curl/weave thing trying to look good. What's to come next? The after party...

Episode 4: Another enthralling episode; Las Vegas is definitely living up to the hype! Frank is being a complete dumbass and bashing his roommates on the phone. If you haven't noticed, the phone area is enclosed by hanging pillow thingies, so it's not very private and anyone could hear what he's saying easily. Arissa (I think it was) overhears Frank telling his friend on the phone that she is there in the house to play the role of "the black bitch." She is not at all happy; to be addressed later in the episode... Meanwhile, Irulan is getting a bit too friendly with her boss, Marc. Turns out that he's a party animal craving to get some attention from the ladies of RW12. Seems to me that he's just another wannabe Frat-Matt that wants to get on the show. He's a complete hypocrite saying at one minute not to be drinking on the job or asking for drinks and then they next saying that he may offer to buy them sometimes. The roomies say that he's a schizo because he's always contradicting himself and doing what he says not to do on the job. He threatens that if they don't do their job right that they will have to work in a kitchen cleaning dishes and such. One night at the bar, he's getting all up in Irulan's space and buying her drinks and getting his hands acquianted with her body. Not cool! Next thing we know is that he invites her up to his room where they get under the covers. Irulan admits in her confessional that she's too afraid to tell him to stop touching her when she doesn't like it, but at the same time she doesn't let it progress into something more sexual. Steven doesn't like his boss' actions at all and confronts him about it. Alton also dislikes what is being said, understandably. Toward the end, Arissa confronts the rest of the roomies about what Frank was saying. Alton gets pissed and yells at Frank before Arissa gets a chance to talk to him like she wanted. Frank and Alton sort it out with Frank saying it was just a joke and that he didn't know what were the boundaries when making racial comments. Again, Frank gets off easy. Back to Irulan, she has a meeting with Marc where she basically tells him not to try to come on to her ever again, and he leaves not looking too happy. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets fired in the season. All in all a good, eventful episode. Next week: Brynn shows her jealousy about Steven and Trishelle when they're in make-out mode again (yippee, good fun). There's a fight, and Steven calls production saying that he wants Brynn gone. Shouldn't be throwing forks, honey! While we're at it, don't call anyone a bitch. We all remember Gladys from Road Rules: Latin America, right?

Episode 5: Another slammin' good episode! While the people may not be all that relatable, the drama and how their lives are going in Vegas is fun to watch. We start off another fun episode with Brynn admitting in confessionals and interviews that she is jealous of Trishelle's relationship with Steven. She has all along wanted to get with Steven. She's mad that he's with Trishelle and not with her, so she doesn't talk to him because that's how she deals with her problems. One night, poor Frank is trying to sleep, and Trishelle and Steven decide to get it on. Frank wakes up and gets pissed, so he goes out to the family room to hang with the other roomies. They're in disbelief that those two are kertanging. Trishelle can hear Frank expressing his anger with them getting it on while he's trying to sleep, so they move it to the confessional. Gross! Meanwhile, Brynn is pretty pissed... There's an air of chaos and dissention as we start in on the next night. Brynn and Steven have it out because Steven is pissed at how Brynn's treating him. They exchange some nasty words which culminates in Steven calling her a whore, slut, etc. She throws a fork at him which hits his shoulder (of course, we never get to see this actual fight scene). Irulan and Arissa intervene and take Brynn outside to cool off while Steven is talking shit about her still. She listens at the door and then runs inside and starts cussing him out. He calls her a bitch over and over; reminiscent of the infamous Abe/Gladys fight from Road Rules: Latin America. He calls up the producers and demands that she be kicked off the show. They decide that it's up to him and the house if she goes or not. Brynn cries and cries; she confesses in front of everyone at a house meeting that she's acting the way she is because she likes Steven. He rebuts saying that this "isn't elementary school" in a very mean manner. Alton suggests that he hear Brynn out privately. While the roomies watch on a monitor, Steven and Brynn talk to each other. He decides to let her stay and everyone's happy. Frank predicts that this won't be the last conflict...

Episode 6: This is one of the few episodes so far this season that actually incorporates most of the roommates. We get substantial story from Alton, Trishelle, Brynn, Irulan, and Arissa. OK, so I guess it's all the girls and one guy, but Steven already had his big story, and as for Frank, what can be said there? He's boring as hell, so he makes it interesting by stirring up trouble. Maybe there'll be something more for him as the season progresses. Anycrap, the roomies are given their first themed party to throw. Appropriately enough it is called Good to be Bad; they get to be dressed as either an angel or a devil which causes problems later. Alton is assigned to be an angel and very much hates being dressed in a skimpy pair of shorts and having to wear wings and a halo. He thinks that it makes him look really gay, and the roomies think that he's a total homophobe. Part of their show is to perform a dance routine while wearing skis. It's a totally whack idea, but it looks decent in the end. Trishelle pretty much quits during the rehearsals because she says that she's too tall and not very limbre. The coordinator gets pretty pissed about this and decides to just let the whole show go to hell. He didn't seem to be complaining when he was watching the girls get dressed though... All of these bosses are so damn scandalous! OK, so after they finally get the show up and running after Alton stops bitching about having to be an angel even though he is the picture perfect clone of Stephen from Real World: Seattle and shouldn't have a problem with seeming gay, there's more scandalosity (yeah I know that's not a word) when Trishelle doesn't do her job (mingling with the crowd) and instead flirts with one of the bartenders all night long. Wow, that's a major run on sentence! The rest of the girls are pissed that they were working their asses off and Trishelle was completely remiss in her duties. Back at the house afterward, Irulan, Arissa, and Brynn do a not so private confessional about Trishelle. OK, they are so freakin' stupid! The confessional room is right near the bathroom and IS NOT soundproof! They're ranting and raving about how Trishelle is such a pain in the ass and is so fake and doesn't do anything, and she's in the bathroom listening to everything! After they come out and go to their bedrooms, Trishelle confronts them and gets mad at them for talking behind her back. Later, they sit her down and explain that they're just jealous of her. Yeah, right... We'll see what happens next time. Oh yeah, Trishelle and Steven also decided to "see other people" even though they weren't official; all they did was bang each other. They decided that everyone else in the house was just jealous that they were having sex; they felt that it was all too public, so they cut it off. We'll see about that, too. 1
