The Plains Of Kildare

Come (Am) all you bold (G) sports (Am) men and (G) listen to my sto (Am) ry
About noble (G) Skew (Am) bald that (G) gallant racing po (Am) ny
And the marvel was the (G) man (Am) that (G) first (Am) brought (G) Skew (Am)bald (G)here
For to (Am) run with Miss (G) Freezel on the (Em) Plains of Kil (Am)dare

And the fame of his actions we've heard of before
But now he is challenged by young Mrs Moore
To run with with Miss Freezel that handsome grey mare
For ten thousand gold guineas on the plains of Kildare

And the horses they were brought out with saddle and buff bridle
And the gentlemen did shout out at the sight of the gallant riders
And viewing the horses just as they came there
Oh they all laid their money on the Monahan grey mare

And the order it was given and away they did fly
Skewbald like an arrow the grey mare passed by
If you had 've been there and seen them going round
You'd have thought to your heart their feet ne'er touched the ground

And when at last they came to halfway round the course
Skewbald and his rider began to discourse
Says Skewbald to the rider, can you tell to me
How far is that grey mare of Miss Moore's from me

Says the rider to Skewbald, you're running great style
You're ahead of the grey mare almost half a mile
If you keep your running I vow and I swear
That you never will be beaten by the Monahan grey mare

The last winning post Skewbald passed it right handy
And horse and rider both called for sherry wine and brandy
They drank to the health of the noble grey mare
For she emptied their pockets on the Plains of Kildare
