VERBAL INTRODUCTION

As with any language, verbals (verbs) are very important in Japanese. There are many forms of verbs, due to the levels of respect to be paid in order to not offend anyone.
During the first set of lessons, mostly verbs of the Distal Style will be taught, with a few that fall into a different level of respect as well. During the second group of lessons, the forms of the verbs that make the verbs the Direct Style are given. After that, the polite forms are covered.
Who you are speaking with determines what level of politeness you should use, as well as who you are talking about in some cases. The following table should help a little in understanding what level of politeness should be used.

Talking to a stranger when you want to be polite

Talking to someone of similar social stature

Direct Style

In Japanese, the verb is found at the end of the sentence. Basic sentence structure is SUBJECT OBJECT VERB, unlike English where the basic structure is SUBJECT VERB OBJECT.
Now, many verbs and verb forms lie ahead. This involves many things to memorize and remember. Do not get discouraged, and if you are having trouble, take it more slowly.
