Chapter 7: Outskirts of New York City

Chun-li and her companions were already spending the last two days observing the warehouse that they had put under close surveillance. But they had yet to see whether their standing watch would bear fruit. They knew by now that the deliveries entering the said warehouse was anything but good. It had been well-known around the area that it was a place where illegal goods were shipped and sold. There were also the rumors of people who showed up dead after being caught spying on the grounds.

At about late in the afternoon, the activity around the area started to pick up.

"Heads up, people!", an agent said. "The party is about to get started…"

From a vantage point away from direct view, Chun-li took in the situation with a set of high-powered binoculars. The entourage that approached the warehouse was made up of a large group of armed men riding in jeeps and escorting a plush limousine.

Upon entering the gates, a tall figure dressed in a suit came out of the limousine as soon as it stopped in front of the warehouse door. His bodyguards stood watch and some where holding their weapons in an intimidating manner. Nothing else happened for the next few minutes. Suddenly, the guards started to enter the warehouse without warning and heavy gunfire was heard inside amidst the terrified shrieks of the people inside.

As quickly as it had begun, the guards exited the building one by one and boarded their vehicles with the tall man who followed and re-entered the limousine. They soon sped off back into the city.

Chun-li was shocked at what had happened and as soon as she had regained her composure she began to send out orders to the agents with her.

She said, "Kramer, choose four companions and follow those men in the jeeps. Report to me as soon as you know where they are going. Exercise extreme caution. Santiago, alert the local police and tell them to proceed here as soon as possible. Lynn and the rest, follow me and we’ll investigate what happened."

What they saw when they entered the warehouse was enough to make even the most composed of persons rear back in horror. Bodies were sprawled everywhere and the blood was covering most of the floor and walls. Severed limbs, partially dismembered heads, bloody entrails… it was sickening. Nearly every person was mutilated beyond description by numerous bullet wounds and the gore of it was simply inhuman.

While they were still trying to register everything, one agent bent over a body and suddenly shouted, "We’ve a live one here!!! Get the paramedics, quick!!!"

Chun-li approached and found that the wounded person was severely injured but amazingly still alive. He struggled to speak out, "W-w-ho a-a-are you? P-please he-e-lp me… I d-d-on’t w-w-an-na die…"

"Don’t worry, help is on the way. Just try to hang on for now…", Chun-li encouraged.

She went out the door and after a few minutes, cops started arriving on the scene along with the paramedics who immediately rushed to treat the injured survivor.

Alone for the moment, Chun-li pondered on the event that had just transpired. She thought to herself, "Why kill those people? Who was that man in the limousine? It would be a miracle if the person survives… he’s the only one who would be able to give us a clue to what happened here."

"Chun-li, you got a moment?", a voice said from behind.

Chun-li turned and saw Lynn. "Yes, what is it?", she asked.

Lynn said, "I wonder how Kramer and his team are doing. We should be getting a report from them anytime soon. The paramedics say that the lone survivor has a very slim chance of making it through."

"Not good, huh?", Chun-li remarked.

"His chances are like one in a hundred at most.", came the reply. "All we can do is hope for the best."

Chun-li looked at her companion thoughtfully and said, "Well let’s just finish our investigation here and head back to HQ to sort things out. I’ll be expecting a report in the morning."

With a quick salute, Lynn answered, "Yes, ma’am!"
