"There is no one who can take your place in my heart..."

Senpai. It is a word often linked to/with Mako-chan. Most probably because whenever she gets inspired, it's usually by him (whoever he is). She often thinks of him, even at the battlefield. Mostly, we see only a hazy image of a faceless man, and Mako-chan refers to him as senpai. Whoever he is, may he be that man who had dumped her or the man chose her friend over her, he certainly had a strong effect on Mako-chan.

Nephrite is one of the four generals in the Dark Kingdom. Why did I include him here, when he was never romantically involved with Mako-chan? It is because Naoko thought of a betrothal for the four inner senshi with the four generals (Mercury and Zoicite; Mars and Jadeite; Jupiter and Nephrite; Venus and Kunzite), but it was never fully developed (I would like to make that clear, please. A fact that Sailorjupiter and Nephrite was in any way romantically involved with each other was NEVER stated in the manga). She did accomplish a concept-painting (that picture on the top of this page was part of it), but that was just about it.

"You reminded me of him..." Such was the power of the infamous senpai, that Mako-chan saw his face in Furuhata Motoki's. In Act 6 (first season; Sailorjupiter's debut), Sailorjupiter/Kino Makoto faced her first youma in the form of Furuhata Motoki. Motoki back then was possessed by the Ghost Bride, and this was how Mako-chan was being deceived into thinking Motoki had feelings for her while he was actually draining her energy away. In the end, the youma was defeated and everything went back to normal. After that, she confessed she was reminded of someone she loved dearly as she saw Motoki.

"If only I had the power... Then I can protect you too!"

And so I saved the best for last. Asanuma is one of Mako-chan's dearest friends, and she fondly calls him, "Asanuma-chan". Asanuma, though, calls her "Makoto-san", or "Makoto-senpai".

Asanuma goes to Moto Azabu School, the same school Mamoru-san goes to. Actually, Asanuma admires Mamoru very much, and admits that he wants to be like him.Asanuma also knows the true identities of the Sailor Senshi (the inners + Tux at least. I'm not so sure about the outers' identities). He accidentally heard Luna talking, also Mamoru and Usagi discussing about sudden appearances of villains.

He confided to Mako-chan about what he had seen and heard, and naturally, Mako-chan was shocked. Since it was too late to cover up anything, Mako-chan decided to tell him the whole truth (after all, they've been friends long enough). He seemed to have understood the whole situation, and admitted that he found all of it pretty admirable and amazing. He said, if only he had that power, he'd protect her. Mako-chan smiled sweetly at him as he spoke, then leaned over and kissed his forehead... (Asanuma blushed!)

More on Asanuma in Io Castle.

Yes, I know--they're just friends. But can you really blame a Jupiter-fanatic for wishful thinking, when we all know she really has no one?
