Sailorjupiter's powers

Ms. Takeuchi's idea of Sailorjupiter having control over thunder and lightning may have come from the Greek and/or Roman mythology. In the Greek mytholgy, a powerful god named Zeus ruled supreme over the other gods. In the Roman mythology, the king of gods, Jupiter (also called Jove), possessed the same powers and weapons--thunderbolts. Zeus' symbols were the eagle, the oak tree, the royal scepter and the thunderbolt. Jupiter's symbols were the royal scepter and the thunderbolts.

The Io Castle

Princess Jupiter lived in her own castle back then (in the manga). That castle was called Io Castle. Ms. Takeuchi may have gotten that name from one of the planet Jupiter's satellites (moons), Io. Io was discovered during the early 1600's and is one of the planet Jupiter's largest satellites.

The Attitude

Delving into astrology, it has been said that Saggitarians are ruled by their hearts. They are hopeful, cheerful, instinctive, energetic, understanding and loyal. (sounds like Mako-chan, alright!). They are one who find expressing feelings clearly easy; they are very demonstrative. They love freedom of thought and action and are very determined.

Faithfulness

Beloved Kino Makoto is known for her faithfulness or loyalty; may it be in friendship, love or battle. The name/word Makoto means faithfulness.
There is a provision in the Bushido (which literally means way of the warrior) the code of the samurai, about makoto. Since makoto means 'faithfulness,' this provision means that this samurai must be faithful to his lord. For instance, in an extreme case, if the lord is disgraced, then the entire band of samurais must be loyal to their lord and commit seppuku. That provision of the bushido is well-regarded as one of the standing provisions of loyalty and honor.
