Now I am going to discuss an issue that has been thoroughly debated by many people. This issue discusses the benefits of Vegetarianism against the disadvantages of Meat eating. I will write about three fields of advantageous evidence: religious, ethical, and medical.
First we shall discuss the religious evidence supporting a vegetarian diet. No religion encourages the indulgence in meat, this is a common misinterpretation that humans have made. Especially in our religion and Theravada Buddhism, the religious scriptures directly state that the indulgence in meats, fish, eggs, alcohol and other sensually stimulating or sensually gratifying food is strictly forbidden. If you think that you are religiously oriented in life, you should already be following our religious principles. If you are not, then now would be a good time to begin.
A second reason why Vegetarianism is a better style of diet is the ethical aspect of it. Why kill, correction, brutally slaughter animals, for food and then raise an outcry over the death of humans? Why isn't the mutilation and slaughter of farm animals governed by the same stipulations intended for the welfare of pets and even laboratory rats? Our society is extremely hypocritical, even if they do not realize it. Another question to consider is: " If the government allows the killing of farm animals, in the name of food, why not allow the mutilation of other species (ex. Humans, wild beasts) also, in the name of food? As you can see, these questions are difficult to answer in a logical undebatable fashion. This is another area where vegetarianism shows its superiority.
The third field is that of medicine. Here medical research has proven that vegetarianism is clearly beneficial. Vegetarianism can prevent physical diseases and can restore many as well. It is said that " 99 to 97 % of heart disease can be prevented by a vegetarian diet". In addition to this, our ever present enemy, cholesterol, can be kept at a low level by indulging in vegetarian foods. Vegetables are also a way to prevent cancerous growth in our bodies.
Another reason for becoming vegetarian is that our bodies are not suited for meat eating. Our intestinal tract cannot tolerate meat that well, and that is why meat eaters are prone to disease.
In addition to this, our bodies, when eating meats, are filled with chemicals which are harmful to our bodies. Did you know that the meat people eat had already putrefied to a certain extent before being preserved? In essence, when eating meat, you are taking in more harmful chemicals than you are nutrients.
Many people believe that if you do not eat meat, you will not get any protein or iron. They are completely and utterly wrong. Vegetables and meat substitutes such as beans contain more protein than hamburgers, pork, and steaks. Many researchers believed that vegetables had only incomplete proteins, but that was disproved when an institute in Sweden found that vegetables also have complete proteins.
