More on Overdrive, so is it official--turn the overdrive
off during city driving? (Asked specifically to Mitsu)
Yes. OD on in the city will cause unnecessary wear and tear on the car. Turn it off under 50 mph.
What will you notice with OD off on DSMs? Acceleration is brisker and faster *with* the overdrive off--even for the same foot position and at WOT (HELLO!!!! HELLO!!!! I've been preaching this one for months with OD on/off timeslips to prove it!!! Now will you guys listen to me???!!!!!")
Let's be honest, I've already bought a DSM lemon so no gimmicks or candy-coating. How reliable are the DSM AT transmissions? (Asked of Mitsu) Honestly? Very reliable. We really don't see many AT transmission problems. We rarely see worn AT transmission disks, or broken torque converters or flywheels. I might see an automatic with a problem once every 6 months to a year.
How about DSM turbo Mitsu trannys vs. NA Chrysler trannys?
"Ahh... Good question." Of the problems they see most
often, it's the Chrysler trannys that brake.
*****Interesting Oil TSB I noticed while at Satan's Joint******
I found this one out, and those of use that regularly check
out oil will know this. DSMs use A LOT of oil.
Mitsu says in TSB-96-11-005 "Oil Economy Test" says, "MMSA
warranty policy is that oil consumption of one quart or less
per 1000 miles under normal conditions is considered
acceptable." A 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles! Even Mitsu
admits that's a lot and it goes for the Eclipses, Galants,
3000 GTs, everybody!
And, in case you're wondering, when you check your
engine oil, the dipstick is sitting between
3 - 4 quarts level. High level is 4 quarts. Low level
is 3 quarts. And even if you see no oil on the stick,
most likely you have somewhere around 3 quarts of
oil.(Of course, still check it regularly).
