So, I call up a good friend, Leo Franchi, who runs a very reputable BMW shop. Leo goes, "Hmm... Doesn't sound good. Catastrophic transmission failure." Leo recommended the best trans person he knows, John Carrera over at Auto Motion. Both John and Leo are two of the nicest people you will ever meet. Not to mention that they both know their stuff.
The tow truck comes and we haul the car over to John's place. The truck driver goes, "Hey wow, nice car. I like the color. It really matches my truck." I'm like, "Gee.. Thanks..."
First thing we do is get the thing on a rack and take a look. John pulls the pan and sure enough, there's parts in the pan. John shakes his head--"Gonna be expensive..." I nodded my head, sad at the fact that the car was going back in the shop AGAIN...
John proceeds to yank the transmission. First thing he did was take a look at the torque convertor. It was also filled with small pieces of metal shavings. The casing looked intact. Most likely the problem was internal to the trans so we soldiered on.
