"Rurouni Kenshin". Well… There is no simple way to describe this absolutely wonderful series, except to admit that it is one of the most amazing, touching, not to mention beautifully drawn series I’ve ever seen.
It is the story
of a wandering samurai (rurouni) named Himura Kenshin, otherwise
known as Hitokiri Battosai. His legendary name Hitokiri Battosai
("Killing Sword Assassin"?) strikes fear into people's
hearts… And it is well-deserved, for Kenshin had been
exactly what the name Hitokiri Battosai means – a cold,
heartless, merciless killer. But perhaps he did have a heart
after all
– for after a tragic and scarring event in his life, he had
disappeared, had become a rurouni – a wanderer, who had
taken an oath never to kill anyone again, trying to atone for all
the lives he had taken. The special sword he carries, the
Sakabatou – reversed blade, was part of the non-killing vow,
now meant to protect the people Kenshin had come to love. On his
travels Kenshin met a young woman named Kamiya Kaoru, who invited
him to live in her dojo. They quickly got to know young Myoujin
Yahiko, a proud son of a Samurai family, Sagara Sanosuke, an
ex-gangster, and Takani Megumi, a woman doctor running away from
a bitter past. They all had lost their families, but together
they formed a new one…
