“The divine rule
dividing us had been right from the very start. The people of the
Moon must not be linked with the people from Earth.”
“What do you mean?”
the younger Serenity inquired. “But they came here to seek friendship
with us!”
“I thought that
what they sought was peace. It is my fault. The divine rule
granted enmity between us and them, but I wanted to have unity in the solar
system.” Queen Serenity bowed her head as she answered.
“But the Prince
and his generals came here with that intention, right?” The Princess of
Venus asked.
“They did.
But Queen Metallia has placed them once again under her rule and her evil
deeds can cause destruction. I thought that it was no longer necessary
to fear her and the people of the Earth. However, someone had resurrected
her.”
“I-is t-there any
other way that we can continue the alliance?” The Princess of Mercury inquired
nervously.
“T-there is no
way,” the Princess of Mars said as she bowed her head in remorse.
“The enemy has taken over the storm… and the darkness. The Prince
and his men… have been swallowed by the storm, and there is no way except
to face them.”
“Enyalis Rei?”
Serenity breathed nervously. “You knew?”
The whole entourage
gasped in surprise. How had she known? Why didn’t she tell
us?
“I was unsure…
until now,” the Princess of Mars replied helplessly.
“That is why he
mentioned his goodbye…” The Princess of Jupiter whispered.
Queen Serenity
raised her wand and the crystal illuminated a ray of brilliance.
“It is not her fault. That is why the divine rule was initiated to
protect us from Metallia from the very start.” The Queen sighed.
“From now on, the alliance between the Earth and the Moon is… broken!”
“Rei-chan….”
After all the blur
had settled, Rei recognized the voice of Minako calling her. Her
friend was sitting on the side of her bed and she was the one who helped
ojii-san to dress her bruises. “She fell on the pavement!”
Minako told Rei’s grandfather innocently. “Maybe it’s because of
sunstroke!”
What excuse could
there be? It was a good thing that ojii-san believed her and
didn’t ask further. It would be impossible for him to understand
that it was a youma that had caused all this. In any event, Minako
never ran out of excuses. She had excuses whenever she was late.
She had excuses whenever she met that masked idol accidentally… as in really,
accidentally. Most of the time, she would bump into him or
she had stepped on his foot. For some reason, this person hid so
much that Minako didn’t understand where he really came from. “Are
you sure you are not a movie idol?” she asked him the last time…to which,
he of course, smiled and shrugged. But she was not satisfied with
his answer (even though she thought he had a good smile!) that she followed
him wherever he went.
“Can you tell me who
you are?” she asked him enthusiastically.
“You don’t need to
know who I am, Minako.”
“But you know my name.
It’s not fair!”
Minako…Minako…
Somehow he will always remember her name and he will always leave her with
many questions.
A strange silence
ensued when they walked but she later summoned the courage to ask him.
“Why do you wear a mask? Is it because you’re hiding something?”
“You would not understand,”
he simply told her.
“Maybe I would,” she
answered softly. “I wore a mask before.”
And the next day,
Minako had the excuse for borrowing Michiru’s mirror to try to search for
any sinister things. And maybe among them, a tall handsome man with
long platinum blonde hair. Maybe the new enemy’s arrival is part
of his secret. This much, Minako had feared.
“Minako-chan.”
The bruise in Rei’s cheek didn’t disappear even after treatment.
“Did you know who
was behind this?” Minako asked.
Rei shook her head.
What she did know is that the same intruder she didn’t trust came to her
just in time. When she fell in his arms, the same dark stimulus was
triggered again as if there was something in his touch. It was something
so threatening.
It was the stunning
radiance that shone through the sides of the door that roused Mamoru from
his sleep. When he entered his living room, the golden light was
too bright that he had to shield his eyes. It was so bright and alarming.
As if he heard the latent message from whoever caused the radiance in his
apartment.
When the brightness
settled, Mamoru was surprised to see his Golden Crystal with much of its
sparkle left. So now Mamoru knew the source of all this and now,
he wondered about this omen that it tried to reveal to him. “An old
acquaintance… has returned,” Mamoru whispered.
“Nani…?”
“What is it, Jadeite?”
“Leave now, princess!”
“I can’t….”
“You don’t understand!
We never thought that the power Beryl gave us would actually cause us to
follow her and do these things. Just now, I almost killed one of
the guards of the Princess Serenity!”
“Beryl? It
is not too late. The storm has not started. You mustn’t return
to her!”
“Leave before it’s
too late! Beryl’s power is taking over the rest of us!”
“There is a way!
The light from the Moon… the Silver Crystal is—“
“—You must leave,
Princess.”
“Jadeite-kun?”
His friend sank to
his knees as he held his head in pain. Nephrite became worried at
his friend’s sorry state that he rushed to Jadeite immediately to find
out what’s wrong. Their rebirth had only caused too many troubles.
His comrade Zoisite is too intent on his retaliation while Kunzite was
consumed in worry.
“Daijobu?”
Nephrite asked. “Are you all right?
The memory had now
ceased but the influx of many images had only now been fading away.
The impact of all these memories caused pain to Jadeite. “Daijobu-yo,”
he said as he stood on his feet. “I just remembered something.”
Remembered….
And him? If there was one thing that had caused all this troubles
to him and his comrades, Nephrite silently took Zoisite’s opposition.
Except for his first youma, he felt no compulsion to take his hand against
the sailor senshi who had caused his downfall. This was for the reason
that she didn’t take his hand against him. Almost every other day,
he met with Makoto and asked her many questions about the events on Earth,
especially during the time that he had slept. There was something in her
voice that seemed familiar. There was more to her patience that he
had expected. And something noticeable about the way she looked at
the sunset and the way she admired its view. It was ironic that he
was talking to her—his enemy with the threatening flower hurricane and
thunderbolts.
“Nephrite-kun… there
is something beyond our past that we must know.”
“Huh?”
“There is something
more for us… More than our mistress, Queen Beryl.”
Dreams of castle ruins,
a fierce battle on gray plains Nephrite had never seen, and dreams of the
swirls of white clouds seen on the Earth from a distance. These have
all returned to him except Nephrite didn’t know which part of this made
sense to his past. “I feared as much,” Nephrite answered. “Could
it be possible that we have been apart from Beryl’s command somewhere in
our former life?”
Jadeite was silent.
If there was freedom before Beryl, then there was space that he had altered
his destiny himself. There would the space in his past that he had
looked forward to. Too many memories. “Then we should
be quick in our mission, Nephrite.”
Nephrite nodded his
head. “To get the Magical Silver Crystal…” he declared sullenly.
“…from our sworn enemies, the sailor senshi.”
It would have been easier
that Nephrite had felt Zoisite’s sentiment instead because if he had this
zeal, then he would have missed the enemy’s comforting eyes.
When the stranger saw
Mizuno Ami disappear from the grounds, he wondered where she had gone.
The hiding place he had chosen was cramped. “Shall we make our move
now?” he asked.
“Not yet, Zoisite,”
Nephrite told him. “The time is not yet good.”
“There is a problem,”
Jadeite spoke. “How shall we know that the Moon Princess will be
here?”
“We shall be expecting
her, Jadeite. All her comrades are studying here. If we challenge
one of the senshi, she will surely arrive,” Nephrite answered.
“The youma
that Kunzite has created will make sure of our plans,” Zoisite said.
“With it, we shall have the Magical Silver Crystal.”
“Itte!” Kunzite
held his head in pain. He had already dispatched the youma to
carry out their plans and he was a little worried over its sudden outbursts.
And now this. The volleyball that hit his head bounced on the pavement.
And Kunzite was wondering what other crazy things would happen now.
“Gomen nasai!”
He heard someone’s high pitched apology and her furious gallop towards
him. Kunzite could only imagine who else it could be since he was
hit on the head by the same energetic individual…oh… about thrice!
How is it that his path was always filled with bouncing volleyballs and
careless feet crossing with her?
Kunzite acknowledged
the apology with a nod on his head and a smile. She was surprised
to see the same masked “idol” in the gym grounds. “It’s okay, Minako,”
he answered.
Minako blushed and
quickly hid the ball behind her back, ashamed of the carelessness that
she had done… again! “I’m hitting volleyballs off a wall,” Minako
said, blushing. “So I hope it didn’t hit you that hard?”
That impact was
coming from a wall? “Oh, no!” Kunzite answered. “It is
just a little bump!” He patted the back of his head and felt a rather medium
lump. “It’s nothing!”
“Hmmm…it is only a
small bump!” Minako smiled as she examined the lump on his head.
“There is nothing to worry about!”
It seems her smile
was contagious and Kunzite realized his cheeks burn and he was smiling,
too. Sunny and buoyant, Kunzite thought that Minako’s cheerfulness
reminded him of something long ago, although he couldn’t pinpoint which
of his pasts it was.
“So, why are you in
my school?” But before Kunzite could answer her question, he felt an alarming
presence. The pleasant situation that he was in was broken by a terse
warning. Behind her, he could see a strong and hideous creature with
eyes that were green and evil. And going towards them at great speed.
Fortunately for Minako,
she found herself being pushed on the grass as she saw the hideous figure
attacking her ‘friend.’ He seemed strong but she could not help but
pity the difficulty he was in getting the youma to stop its attack.
Minako thought that this was the time to risk being identified. Besides,
the kind masked man didn’t seem to be an enemy and he had graciously saved
her! “Venus Crystal Power, Make Up!”
Kunzite unleashed
his energy and it sent the youma off him in an instant. He was not
ready for what he had seen, however. That the girl he had known was
actually… a sailor senshi?
“You are harming an
innocent would be idol!” the sailor senshi shouted. “Love and beauty
will punish you!”
With the battle just
starting, the magic had already set Usagi into flight towards the source
of danger. It was this same special bond that warned the senshi of
doom and Usagi was not alone as she ran. The same force that had
set Makoto, Haruka and Michiru had also warned Ami of the same, although
she was nearing the area better than the rest.
“Mizuno Ami.”
Ami stopped instantly
in her tracks when she heard and felt her heart pound in fear at what she
heard. Who had known who she was? She has already transformed.
A strange man wearing
a mask appeared before her, wearing a gray suit and cape. His wave
of blonde curls were tied in a low ponytail and instantly, she was feeling
the same force of familiarity that she had felt when she first met…
“Sailormercury?” the stranger said.
“Dare ka?”
Sailormercury asked, her voice trembling. “Do I know you?”
Instead of answering,
the stranger approached her quickly, held her face in his hands and kissed
her gently on the forehead. “This time, I can’t let you win,” he
said and disappeared in an instant.
“Aaagh!” Sailorvenus
screamed in pain as she fell on the grass.
This was a strange
youma. It was unbelievably strong and furious and has successfully
avoided the senshi’s attack. Most of all, Kunzite noticed, it had
gone out of control. It was attacking him, as well, after it had
finished its attack on senshi he thought he knew. It was better this
way. At least then, no one wouldn’t be hurt. She was just an
innocent child, anyway… even if his reason said that this is his enemy.
The youma came
tumbling down on the ground. So far, Kunzite was stronger than his
own creation except he couldn’t match its energy. With a little more
time, it can overpower him with its unending stamina, and end his life,
just as he programmed it.
“Venus!”
She had come just
in time. Who is she? She seemed so familiar. Yet, she
was not the same person Kunzite knew. Sailormoon had wings and with
her, three other comrades had come and another sailor senshi flanked on
the right side. He didn’t know that Sailorvenus had this much allies.
The Princess of the White Moon….
“Now, Sailormoon!”
Sailoruranus shouted.
A beam of the most
powerful light he had ever seen. Kunzite leapt out of the way just
in time to avoid what he feared could destroy him. The attack was
immensely powerful that it destroyed his youma in a few seconds, enabling
to scorching it in the light as it screamed in pain.
“Kunzite-kun,” it
was Nephrite who spoke behind him. His comrades were there just in
time. “We have found what we were looking for.”
“Yatta…” Sailormoon
whispered. “Venus, are you alright?”
Sailorvenus sat calmly
on the grass. She nodded happily. She was all right.
But then, without
any qualm of suspicion, they both felt someone snatch the rod in her hand.
Swift and with the right precision, that Sailoruranus, Sailorneptune and
Sailorjupiter immediately leapt in front of the culprits.
“You have caused this
to happen, didn’t you?”
Sailorjupiter was
even aghast at the Sailoruranus’s accusation. How could she have
fallen so quickly and without even thinking? He was right there among
them. Still looking as deep and gentle as he is whenever they talk
secretly under the moonlight.
“The reason is irrelevant,”
Kunzite answered. “This is the ginzuishou and this has always been
our mission.”
“Matte!” Sailorvenus
shouted. “You… you wanted the Silver Crystal?”
For awhile maybe,
Sailorvenus was relieved that he had shown signs of guilt but even then,
it seemed he and his comrades were very serious about their mission.
How can this be altered?
“Huh?”
Maybe the same kind
of precision although Tuxedo Kamen stood there with a more majestic air.
No one had even noticed it but now, the rod that had Sailormoon’s ginzuishou
was being held in his hands and snatched away from the enemy.
“Dare?” Nephrite
inquired of the new visitor, even though, like the rest of his comrades,
it seemed he had been staring at someone they knew.
“We should be the
one to ask,” Tuxedo Kamen answered.
“It wouldn’t be necessary,”
Zoisite answered. “We will be assured of victory the second time!”
Kunzite immediately
rushed in front of the new arrived consort and with his determination,
struggled against him to retrieve the Silver Crystal in his hands.
This was their past. Everything would be done for it. Even
now, it was working already. His memories are returning. These
same moves. These same skills of battle….
“How could this be?”
Jadeite replied.
“Nani?”
“Our enemy,” Jadeite
answered as he pointed to the masked man Kunzite was battling against.
“All his moves are … familiar.”
“Your minds have
been taken over.”
“Your Highness,
whether you side with us or not, the Silver Millenium is our enemy.
We shall attack it with Beryl’s great power! We will not lose!”
“Her powers have
made you forget! That woman is evil!”
“Prince….”
“She has already
corrupted your memories. Kunzite! Jadeite! Nephrite! Zoisite!”
“Nani…?” Kunzite
paused from his attack. It was the memories that stopped him.
He looked up to see if the senshi’s firm ally would still attack.
Tuxedo Kamen had also
realized the same force of memory that had come over him. It was
as relative as the bond the past held with them. And all his comrades…
they all knew at that same moment. It wouldn’t be necessary to wear
the mask in front of them.
Kunzite bowed his
head. The mask that he was sure he had fastened tightly fell to the
ground, making no more discrimination of who he and his comrades really
are.
Sailorvenus covered
her mouth in astonishment as he stood. The same hard eyes that met
her the last time. Yet, it wasn’t the same when he had first met
her… well, the first time that Beryl had sent him. There was more
than grief that he had caused because why are there so many images of him
that now came to her head? It seems she saw him stand in the same
way with a kinder look on his face before.
“Doshite…?”
Sailorjupiter continued to question. A while ago she was still considering
being naïve, wondering why she had trusted so much. The same
images in her head were different when she knew who he was… standing there
still with his mask on and yet, everything was changed now. Their
past enemy…. But it seems there is more to him that she had known.
