“Leave before it’s too
late! Beryl’s power is taking over the rest of us!”
“There is a way!
The light from the Moon… the Silver Crystal is—“
“—You must leave, Princess.”
“I can’t… I-I… can’t
leave you to go to the Beryl’s storm….”
This was the first time
she did not believe her psyche telling her that he is still alive.
She saw the awesome power of the ginzuishou strike a glaring pillar
that reached to the sky and its strength was added on to by Prince Endymion’s
Golden Crystal. It would only seem logical that no enemy of the senshi
would ever survive it, so this time this is what she believed. However,
his sudden appearance very much resembled the figure she saw in her visions.
It was the same way he looked at her and the same kind of stance and bearing…
and right here in front of her! Imagine that! She knew she
was getting weaker from all that feeling of relief since… her knees were
shaking!
“Ohayoo, Rei-san….”
he greeted once again. It was all the more difficult for him, too.
To see her and know who she was in his life … what a strange thing!
This was the same kind of reaction he received when he saw her in Queen
Serenity’s veranda. Jadeite remembered it very well.
“Ohayoo…” Rei repeated
softly, still staring at Jadeite blankly. Why is here? What
has happened to her that she had forgotten who he is? Maybe he is
here to harm Princess Serenity again and it is her duty to protect her!
Now her mind is clearer. She immediately rushed up the steps to walk
past him. What did he say? “Ohayoo?” she repeated again
sarcastically. “It is already afternoon, Jadeite-san!”
Afternoon? Jadeite
looked up to the orange sky. Why, it is already afternoon!
But why did it matter that much to her? He scratched his head in
wonder at her annoyance as she walked up the stairs past him. At
least, she didn’t transform and attack him immediately. It was like
her to be impulsive at times, especially when the times seemed critical.
Wasn’t his first meeting with her during the Silver Millenium at Mars greeted
with an attack of fire?
It seems his mission is
done here. After receiving his past, he and his other comrades have
gone back to the surface world to look back at what they have missed from
the Silver Crystal’s retrieval of their memories. And he had of course,
gone to Hikawa Jinja. Jadeite beat his chest in order to teleport….
“Matte!”
Jadeite halted at her request.
The blue-green gem in her
hand sparkled magnificently. Just a little while ago, Rei saw the
image of a silver orb surrounded by glittering stars encased inside in
the gem. Shining crystal pillars stood on its surface. The
castle on the Moon… How was this sight locked in this one gem? “Here,”
Rei said as she gave the gem to him. “I-I found this and maybe it
belongs to you.”
Jadeite walked a step closer
to her and took the gem from her hand. He examined the blue-green
jewel with the golden clasp. “It is Zoisite’s,” he told her.
“It is merely the jewel clasp in his cape. Arigato, Rei-san.”
“Oh,” she sighed.
Not his? Her eyes shifted to the jewel clasp on his cape. It
was a deeper shade of green as that of true jade. She should’ve known.
“What is this jewel on
your cape? Does it denote a rank of some sort?” she asked.
“No,” he told her.
“Just that I hold the Far East region of the Earth and this is just one
of the symbols to distinguish me from my comrades.”
“Oh,” she sighed. “What
is this? The edges of your glove… are … burnt!”
He smiled at her.
“That is just a souvenir of our first meeting.”
The figure in the storm…
and in the pillars… and in the flames… Why all these small visions
and memories? They’re all the same. All familiar, but each
vision was becoming more and more vivid each day. Rei saw him surround
himself with a distinct splash of light. Gone again in a few moments.
She felt her heart beat faster. How can this be… that the light of
his aura is the same as….?
“Matte, Jadeite-san!”
Rei cried out and ran closer towards Jadeite’s place.
The surge of power around
him stopped abruptly, even instinctively to her command. Jadeite
had sensed the urgency in her voice and it will give him enough time to
linger. He watched her ran towards him in the same stride of grace
and anxiousness the day that he had last set foot on the Moon Kingdom.
“Rei…san….” He almost forgot
to mention the last word and be polite.
There it was… in his eyes,
too. The planets circling peacefully around the sun and then they
were slowly taken over by a dark mist. An angry blur of dark clouds
and the storm. There was that woman’s auburn tresses floating in
the tempest and her piercing eyes had been evil. But there was that
lone sparkle she saw in his eyes, slowly becoming powerful and getting
ready to overtake the master of the darkness. Had he seen all this,
too?
Maybe there is a way to
know! She had received the first images when he had first met him
at the grounds of Hikawa Jinja! That same kind of action could provoke
this—
“Rei-san?” he asked.
She was blankly staring at him, not that he minded of course, but he wanted
to know how she entered this trance.
“Jadeite…” she finally spoke.
“I-I just want to make sure. If it is you then--”
“Make sure of what, Hino-san?”
“It is a favor. Please
stay in this position for awhile … and close your eyes.”
“Nani, Rei-san? I—“
“--Onegai…Jadeite.”
She whispered softly.
Just a little soon after
he had heeded her request, Jadeite felt the weight of her arms on his shoulders
and soon after, he felt her breath closer to his. As her lips touched
his, he opened his eyes slowly, partly in a surprised reaction to what
she had just done and so that he could lean down and move her closer to
him.
The soldier has fallen.
She immediately rushed to his side to see if he was still alive.
After that blast of light that had befallen him, it might be difficult
to recover.
“Daijobu?” she asked
the fallen. “Are you alright?”
The soldier smiled at
her weakly. “Yes, princess.”
When she had finished
dressing his wounds with the cloth of her gown, she rushed to the scene
immediately. She had seen a surge of dark energy in the horizon similar
to the aura of someone she knew, and found him commanding his powers to
strike at another group of guards.
“Yamete!!!” she shouted.
He stopped at her command
and halted his powers easily. Instinctively. When she had stopped
running, he looked closely at the strands of her hair being blown by the
wind. The tempest was a bit calmer then. He was trying to remember
who this woman is, standing before him, her knees exposed since she shred
parts of her gown. She was surely someone he knew for he could not
forget a remarkable loveliness like that. “Enyalis Rei….” He whispered
softly.
“Jadeite… “ she called
and walked closer to him. “What is happening?”
Suddenly, the surroundings
had been a bit unfamiliar. He then stared and found blood staining
his hands. What had he done? The voice inside him told him
to kill that soldier and he had said No! Had he succumbed to the
voice? Why was he listening to something so evil?
“Jadeite-chan!” she smiled
and approached him.
“Enyalis Rei, you must
leave!” Jadeite told her sternly.
“Jadeite, what happened?
You are not the same.”
“You better leave this
place and return to the castle!” He was holding his head. Something
painful? She rushed immediately to help him.
“Nani?”
“The people of
the Silver Millenium are plotting against us!”
“What are you saying,
Jadeite?”
“Leave! You
are in great danger!”
“I can’t….” Why
should she? He seems to be in great pain!
“You don’t understand!
We never thought that the power Beryl gave us would actually cause us to
follow her and do these things. Just now, I almost killed one of
the guards of the Princess Serenity!”
Her eyes widened
in surprise. Beryl? Was that the sinister woman’s name?
“Beryl? It is not too late. The storm has not started.
You mustn’t return to her!”
“Leave before it’s
too late! Beryl’s power is taking over the rest of us!”
“There is a way!
The light from the Moon… the Silver Crystal is—“
“—You must leave,
Princess.”
“I can’t… I-I… can’t
leave you to go to the Beryl’s storm….”
He held on to his head
in pain again then he stared at her. His blue eyes were full of confusion…
what could he be thinking? It seems the shadow has taken over most
of the sparkle in his eyes… would the darkness in him come soon?
Slowly, he touched her
cheeks and felt her warm tears on his bare hands. But she wouldn’t
know that he was thinking of what must be done, when he then put his hands
around her neck.
“Ugh!” Enyalis
Rei struggled against his grasp. She put her hands over his and tried
to free herself. “Doshite, Jadeite?” she asked him. “Why?”
Jadeite looked at her
closely until their cheeks could touch. She uttered in pain as he
tightened his grasp on her neck, as though he wanted to hear her scream
clearly. “Beryl… she has the power,” he whispered. “The Silver
Millenium shall never … take over the Earth!”
“Jadeite…” she cried
softly. “Of course not…! … the Earth… and Mars!”
Who is this girl? he
wondered. Up until the very end, she looked straight at his eyes
as proud and powerful as she always was.
Enyalis Rei felt him
loose his hands on her neck and noticed the sparkle that has returned to
his eyes. His person in there would never be the same again.
But when he drew closer and began to hold her cheeks, she gasped in fear,
that maybe he would somehow hurt her again.
“Gomen nasai, Enyalis
Rei,” this was the intruder’s goodbye. He lifted her chin and kissed
her for the last time.
“It is you,” she told
him. Maybe he’s still not the same even if now is a different time. But
why can a simple kiss provoke such memories? She rushed back immediately
without any polite pretenses atop the stairs of Hikawa Jinja, never looking
back because he might see... that she cried a little.
“Mizuno Ami.”
“Hmmm?”
“Can you still predict when
all the planets would align?”
She remained speechless
with surprise. But then again, if he were only an illusion, she still
would not be afraid of him.
“Ne, Ami-san?”
“There are many computations,
Zoisite-san. I can’t do it alone! It’s impossible! Their revolution
around the sun has a certain order and they—“
“—I thought you always knew,
Ami-san.”
“These things… are very
complicated to just get in my stock knowledge,” she smiled.
He smiled, too. “Ja,
Ami-san!”
She was surprised at this
reaction. Where had this illusion gone? It’s like one of those
little mirages she adored—they fleet away again.
He had noticed her response
when he left. One thing about being trained as a general, he sure
knew how to hide in the bushes! “Her name is Mizuno Ami,” Zoisite
whispered. “IQ of 300, 16 years old, Juuban High School.” She
wasn’t the one who killed him, but one of her comrades who showered him
with enough crescents. That was enough to vow revenge on his enemy—the
sailor senshi.
“Her name is Ami, Princess
of Mercury, Metallia-sama. And no… you can’t have her!”
“Zoisite-kun… what are
you murmuring about?”
She always had a very
sweet smile. “Uhh—nothing, Ami-chan… nothing!”
“Were you studying about
the stars again? Trying to chart on your calendar when the planets
would align?” she laughed soon after.
“I only do that when
I’m bored and I never get bored when I’m here,” he smiled.
“When would the planets
align, Zoisite-kun? I thought you always knew.” Her eyes gazed
in wonder when she looked at the stars. As peaceful as the waters on Earth,
if he could just choose to drown in them, before the storm rages again
in his mind and tried to conquer him!
“Ami-chan… it might take
a while… after I go back to Earth. There is something that my colleagues
and I have discussed.”
“A long time, Zoisite-kun?”
He nodded.
“A long time… I need
you… to take care, then!”
Memories of a long forgotten
past of his enemy? Why has Beryl done this? This was enough
to make him come back over and over again to return to her! But she
was walking away. He had to run over and catch up to her.
The sound of footsteps only
made Ami suspicious. She would not be surprised by some immediate
attack by an enemy again! When she had seen that the place was clear,
she called on her henshin phrase and Sailormercury stood on the
pavement.
Her monitor only allowed
her to witness a dark shadow with enough power to drive her down!
It is going this way. North-north-east of her!
“She is near,” Zoisite murmured.
“Princess of Mercury….”
Nearer and nearer.
And closer.
The threat is near.
There is nothing else to do. “Mercury Aqua Rhapsody!”
The enemy had collapsed
when she uttered her strongest attack, uttering a strangely familiar and
painful scream. The shadow on her monitor seemed to have become clearer
just now. When she had removed her glasses, however, she only found
another mirage on her feet, only this time, he was a little weak and exhausted
and why else would he seem that if he weren’t... real?
What has she done?
“Zoisite-kun?” she called to him, crying on her mistake. “Mako-chan
was right… you are alive!”
The blow would make him
unconscious for quite a time but when he wakes up from his dream, he’ll
find himself staring back in the calm blue eyes of the Princess of Mercury
and find himself happily drowning in them.
