It was revealed in Act 36 that it was Rei who named the ravens, Phobos and Deimos, when she was very young and during the first few days that she came to live with her grandfather at Hikawa Jinja. Since then, Phobos and Deimos have been especially close to Rei, sometimes even trying to follow her wherever she went.
The two were also near whenever there was danger or enemy that was about to come to Rei, as though they shared the Princess of Mars's gift of premonition. They were there to help her against Jadeite, for example.
In Act 34, the two ravens hovered over Rei as she looked to the sky to see the ship of the Dead Moon Circus. Rei was surprised to see a tarot card of an eclipse over the newspaper article of an eclipse. Two black feathers crossing over each other were placed on top of them. This was their warning.
Finally, in the landmark Act 36, Rei was in trouble. The enemy Tiger's Eye had changed into a Tiger and along with Parapara (one of the Amazoness Quartet) tried to attack her. Phobos and Deimos changed into their human forms. Their hair tied two somewhat odango on both sides, their haltered costumes, and like Sailormars, they have long black hair, wore high-heeled strappy sandals and a six pointed star on their costumes. (I think they're one of the most kawai! And related to Sailormars even!)
Although they're not like Luna and Artemis who can talk in their animal forms, Phobos and Deimos are close to Rei as Luna and Artemis. Like Luna and Artemis, though, they don't have powers. In Act 45, Sailorleadcrow announced how both Phobos and Deimos sided with the Princess of Mars. It was learned here that they were from the planet Coronis. (Sailorleadcrow later took their star seeds, but we all know that they'll be okay at the end of the story. ^^;;)
